Tropico Roleplay (Island Roleplay)

I was thinking this morning and I thought of an idea. Tropico or Island Roleplay. It's basically the same thing I'm just stating it's on an island. If you have played Tropico I think you would get the idea of the game.

You basically start on a island you pick as "El Presidente" aka President. You have complete control of the island. It is up to you how you will work. Capitalist or Communist? Religous Zealot or an Intellectual? Militarist or Loyalist, perhaps Nationalist? Or maybe you would like to please everyone on the island?

At any rate here is my idea.

Tropico Roleplay

Tropico roleplay would be mainly consisted of passive. However it would have it's fair share of action dependant on the situation on the island. You begin either as a Tropican or an immigrant who has come to seek fortune on the tropican island. The island we would be starting on would have a name of our choosing and a president aka "El Presidente" of our choosing. Applications would be put up for that position. El Presidente has full power over the island. It's up to him how he will expand the island, make it prosper , or take everything for him self. However citizens of tropico aren't that helpless in this matter. They can protest and after a while they can decide to become rebels and remove the president from control over the island.

Here, there would be no major factions / minor factions, at start that is. Like stated before, a president must be picked, who will recieve a palace and a few soldiers to protect it. As he develops the island, so must the mappers build. I know this is demanding and somewhat rediciolus. However to build certain buildings , El Presidente needs cash, and by the time he collects it , the mappers could add that building. El Presidente begins with 10.000 $. Certain buildings can't be constructed, certain buildings make a yearly revenue that must be payed, some requier electricty, some are dependant on other buildings. Everyone living in a house of any sort beside a shack, must pay taxes which are set by El Presidente. How to collect taxes? I haven't thought about this but I'm sure something can be done inside the script.


The island starts out with:

- El Presidentes Palace
- Construction Workers Office
- Few houses / Tenantments / Apartments / Shacks/ Country houses
- Max of two farms of corn / banana / papaya or ranches of cattle / sheep / lama
- A dock, to sell resources and recieve immigrants or others to emmigrate

It's all about politics, happyness of people on the island and their needs. El Presidentes job is to manage to win all the elections and keep people happy or fill his coffers and run away.

People can form groups/factions like:

- Capitalists
- Communists
- Nationalists
- Loyalists
- Enviromentalists
- Intellectuals
- Religious
- Militarists

Each group can demand what they want to see on the island. They act independantly and have their faction leaders, supporters, members , etc. Some groups have opposite ways of thinking, there for their interests can collide. Presidente can dediced how to remove these collisions , by force or by pleasing both of the groups or doing nothing at all.

A major faction can be made if a certain group manages to outnumber other groups. Which would make that group the prominent faction.

You would think a major faction would be the military? No. Unless Presidente builds and army base right away or too many outposts, it won't happen. However, everything has an application. From farmers to profesors.

There are no set paychecks. El Presidente decides who gets payed and how much, and he can change it whenever he wants to, he can fire who he wants to fire, improve a building , basically whatever he damn pleases. He can issue edicts, such as anti-litter ordinance, contraption ban, free housing, national day, etc. And the island doesn't automatically start with cars. Only construction workers recieve a truck.

I know this project would demand a lot of dedication, sweat and constant updating of map. However if done right, it can thrive and be unique in many ways. I'm very aware right now it's impossible to do, due to current projects under construction. However sometime in future it could be attempted and experimented on.

NOTE: A thing I forgot to add is everyone who applys for position of El Presidente must be voted for. That means the playerbase picks it's president. Quiet frankly, it's all about the people and presidente, they do what they want to do, inside the limits of normal. There will be no 1337 ninjas who haven't went trough spec ops training which presidente needs to allow. USSR and US would be event factions. The timeline is during the cold war. Up to presidente if he is going to keep neutral policies and please both factions or side with one and ally with it.

It sounds like it could be rather reasonable. I agree with your own words though, it would be a very demanding project to undertake, though I believe the rewards outweigh the potential risks involved.

Good idea but as Irondeity already said, it is very demanding. And it stays that way because everything keeps changing. It would be a project where you need a whole lot of people for like mappers because the map keeps changing after a few days.

That's true. But, for 10.000 $ , you can't really buy that much to overload the mappers. And it takes time to build. Not to mention you have to start off the economy somehow with 10.000 $.

Also, it won't work, needs too many dedicated RPers, which HGN doesn't currently have.

I'm well aware of that. Like I said before. It's here for people to take a look at it, grade it and just mabye it might get worked on in distant future or perhaps never. Not right now that's for sure, that would be rediciolus.

But however you can't just go "OLOLOLLOL REBEL". Because that means living in a jungle and giving up on everything you had in the city. Other than that rebels don't need guns, they can wreck havoc at certain destinations.

I'd wonder, if there'd be a Tropico Roleplay and rebels, would they get automatically an AK47 and pew pew ? Or we'd make many weapons accesible for EVERYONE ?

That's an other possible situation unless the island has a weapon factory.

Could get a basic mapper to make a large island, during that time they could allow whoever in charge to rule, construct buildings and such and then it would be applied onto the map. (as in if you build stuff on the map icly it will be up on the map when loaded etc)

If you took it seriously it would basically turn into HL2 RP or similar which is boring and stupid for the people who weren't the dictator/secret police. But if it had a tongue-in-cheek vibe and wasn't "srs business" then I think it could be fun

Should be kept between Dark RP and "srs bsns", then it'd be cool.

But there's another issue. Timeline.
How would it work ? One real-time day - one month/year ?
