Player based factions are just going to set up Steam Friends groups or free message boards. No one is going to pay for something that is free and doesn't cost the HGN anything (since the forums cost the same amount regardless of how many child boards there are).

So, how much does it cost to run the servers and forums per month that necessitates this?
I picked a random provider for a server (45 slots), the price was 345$ per year.
To date, the price for this would have been 833.75$.
Now, assuming that silver had bought an insane 250 slot server for teamspeak, the price would have been about 600$ per year, and i'm fairly sure it hasn't been up for half that quite yet.

So, let's call it half a year on teamspeak, that leaves us with around 1133.75$ that's been spent hosting all this. I'm sure there was stuff for ventrilo too, along with the servers that were funded for a couple of months, but I think i've already wasted enough time researching this.

Bottom line, where the hell is this money going, and why the hell is more of it necessary?

Also, we'll need to know precisely how much the forums actually cost.

And yeah some actual numbers for how much it costs to run the place would be nice since I thought Afro used to host some of the servers for HGN for cheap/free.

This is not going to work...hgn have money to keep running for like 3 years or more, why more money..seriously..no point in charging players for boards for they groups that were free for 2 years..

Silver has stated a few times in TS that the server and forums combined cost $150/month which is way more than Nargotah's "$345/year" figure (by almost 7 times) so before you all jump on this bandwagon at least get more concrete numbers.

Although it is more than likely that a lot of the donation money hasn't gone to the server since I am nearly positive HGN at one point either owned its own box or had a very good deal on one.

Linxie you are adding NOTHING useful to this discussion so start posting useful things or go elsewhere. Especially since it isn't really that amazing/amusing for someone to create a service that people will pay for (HGN) and then make a profit on it. That's called Capitalism. You should try it sometime.

What about only people who have donate can start the group? That sounds fair gives more pecks to donate and people well be happy that they don't have to pay more and more for add on's and such just make donate give's you more pecks?

And the HGN's SRP started after The Zone died, which is around October - November 2008.

No it started in april, the zone was a short lived community of about 5 months if that.
