I actually managed to find quite a bit more more futuristic content to add, but whether or not it'll be viable, workable, and worthwhile remains to be seen.
However, Mun, if you think that you can get maybe like a Laser-weapon base out, I can see what I can do regarding models. You should check out something like Sting's old laser weapons for an example. Since it's only light, I don't think it'd need bullet physics.

I liked all the 2142 stuff, but most of it is just props. Now, if we could turn the EU transport hovercraft into a vehicle...

And I might bring back the old ODST Suits, but the nanosuit probably will not due to size constraints (the thing was like 30mb for one model).
And I looked at the suit's vtf's, and it had "cocks" written on the sheath, and the writing on the back wasn't "XEM", but actually "1337" written vertically, and mirrored on the model.


The thing you need to understand is most (All) of those guns are really really OP, and be a good fit on the server "The edit them" some would say. But the truth is 1. its not worth our time to go through the hassle to track down the author and ask him to edit his beloved SWEP. 2. Even if we did we'd have a whole bunch of mismatched weapons on the server (Combine sniper rifle, predator assault rifle, 21st century weapons, and a flare gun side by side? No thanks, the Desertian back story works perfectly with the weapons we have (or are going to) put into use, and it doesn't ruin the atmosphere leaving people to wonder "Didn't i use this in HL2?"

Mebbe you should use the Aliens pulse rifle...
That would be epic.

Wasn't posting it for the sweps, was posting it for the V/P-models,, we have PLENTY of hexxers at the moment

As for "OP", wasn't posting them for the scripts, get some one to hex them and make them resonable.

Also, "Didn't I use this in CounterStrike Source?", seems a bit more RP Bonerkill them some HL2 beta weapon bullshit. Unless you plan on making your own arms/models and such then your going to need content from elsewhere, generally multiple sources, so no matter what you do it's always going to have that 'borrowed' feel. Generally I just use RP most of the time for weapon shit though. SWEPs are generally worthless to me other then have an auditory report for firing.

To add, the artillery/nuke stuff looks nice, just make it do no/little damage, so it's more of an affect then a weapon.

The majority of it is just anything that might 'fit', so unless you've already gone through all of garrysmod.org then I wouldn't really blockatiel people willing to search though tens of thousands of pictures to give you free shit :P.

Too summerise, I only posted the models for the models so who cares about the scripts.

Some of the stuff posted, I'll consider. I like quite a bit of it, but it all comes down to, "What works best".
I do wish that they came in the CSS hands though, so that everything'd be more uniform, but it's a minor thing.

We already have some artillery SWEPs as well, but I did use the cinematic explosion SWEP at one point. Overall, not really suited for mainstream usage. It looks great, but if you have more than two, you'll overload the sprites and create a wall of errors.

I'm making a new Artillery SWEP that will look a little like the "cinematic explosion" but not be as sprite-intensive. You can turn damage on or off, too.

I'll be making a basic knife SWEP before I produce a laser. I want to do lasers just right, since I love lasers.

It's so funny how everyone want's to integrated some mass effect into Desertia :V

Meh it fits the storyline sort of.  Could be the guns used by the high end mercs and stuff.

Seriously, they're just guns. If you think guns make or break an RP server, RP isn't for you. Use your imaginations. We don't have a modeling team that can crank out futuristic-looking view models. The guns shoot bullets because it makes the most logical sense that way (I've already gone over this), and keeps people from powerplaying. I'm already worried we're going to have people walking around with "uberguns" that auto-target and shoot lasers that never miss and cut anything.

And yes, Mass Effect is cool. We get it. But Desertia =/= Mass Effect.

Having definitive technology helps with immersion and keeps everything together.

Your not going to have fucking Hummer's as light transports i the year 2350.

As for 'uber guns', having a pre-defined state of weapon technology would 1) keep that from happening even more so and 2) It's already been explaned that 'laser tech' is ultra-rare.

So read the entire thread before ya post. Trying to address points that have already explained just makes you look silly.

Well then what's the problem? Desertia uses bullet-shooters, and pulse rifles and lasers are rare. We don't need to worry about making more advanced guns because the masses shouldn't have them already.

We can change view models if they're really that distracting, but not for everything. Good view models are hard to come by.

As for vehicles, those usually look and feel more advanced in the server. Tanks, for example, have a high-tech look, as do planes (this is because they're prop-built). With the hummers and cars, they may appear that way, but use more modern technology, like different propulsion methods and the like. You're taking everything too literally.

There are more important things to worry about than models. Just RP them as being more futuristic or something until we can find/make better ones. I'd rather see the server come up and start playing on it than wait more and more for something like models.

And honestly everyone complaining about the models should either find some that you think is better or model it yourself (and make it swep worthy and what not). Don't hate on what's already here.

1) I know, the initial point of the thread was to address what kind of tech was being used so people don't pull PKm's out and shit. Honestly, I don't even USE SWEPS.

2) Agreed. I went through al the Gmod submissions to find anything that might be useful for the server and might fit with our plot line here, that's it. It's for the higher ups that might have missed something or see something that would help, soemthing new. That's about it.
