it's not supposed to be a lantern, it's supposed to be a LAMP POST. Like a street light. A light on top of a pole, not the other way around. Got it? Not a lantern that people hold.

Pretty sure they didnt have lamps in medieval times, it was a glass box, that hang from a post, with a candle inside it

Can I help ICly? I have a bookstore in the market in VB. I could provide information for research. I would suggest finding a cool way to use fire or lava or something. Mostly because lightstone looks stupid in most texture packs, especially the default one, which I like to stick to.

starting from Novarium home, go towards Demonizer's general store, then follow that road strait to the end. You should see a bridge across water that you can hop across to a gravel path. Follow it. The portal is in the middle of the crater and lava. There is a safe path to get there.
