With every server I've joined, I seem to encounter this problem. After about a minute or two, the game loses connection to the server and I get a message that pops up, 'lost connection.'
I have found no solution as of yet, and am looking for some help.
Check your ports and firewalls. Make sure the right ports are open and firewalls let it through.
I messed around with my ports and firewalls but I still cannot remain on any server for over a minute. This is really disappointing because I thought my game would work this go-around, so if anybody has anything to contribute with that may help.. please just go ahead.
Could be IP related, I had a strange issue where I couldn't connect to certain server, like HGN SRP server 1, but I could connect to Server 2.
Are all game servers like this? Just Terraria servers? Just HGN's?
Or you could have shitty internet.
It's just Terraria.
what is the address you're using?
What do you mean address? My IP, or the server's?
server address.
Even i got it wrong a few times.
I don't think you understand my issue. When I join, it lets me in, but only for about a minute or two. Then it just boots me off.
yeh. then it's an internet problem.
how fast is your connection speed?
Because even i get kicked off every 20 minutes or so, and that's because mine drifts in between 5.5MBps and 11MBps
It's 20MBps.
shit. 20mbps and it's still kicking you?
I'll look around for some answers.
Here is a quick question, how long is your character's name?
I hear a long name can cause issues, but this is probably a shot in the dark.
Well, my character's name is Harold Armbruster, so that's 16 letters including the space.
Besides, I've made a couple of test characters with the names asdf and other random combinations and it didn't work on any server.
thats not alot of megabits... could be that the server needs a restart too though.
Like I said, it's not just your server. This problem occurs with every single server I try to play on.
Just Terraria though, right?
Best I can say is just try removing it fully from your computer and reinstall it.
Have you tried restarting your modem?

this might be the best option for now. I've been searching for an answer, so far i've got nothing.
Still gonna keep looking.
Re-installing didn't help.
did you add an exception in your firewall for terraria.exe? could be that your protection is booting you off.
Also, what antivirus/antimalware are you using, it may be kicking you to prevent outside access?
Can you try it on another computer by any chance?
I have my Window's firewall disabled; I'm using Norton Security Suite. I don't have any other computers capable of running any type of game, so..
Not a single laptop or a parent's/friend's you can borrow? Terraria isn't that big.
My laptop can't run Minecraft, so I don't think it can run Terraria.

my laptop can run terraria just fine, it's an early 2000 model. Can't run Minecraft, though.
Try it anyways. We aren't testing how well it plays but if it can connect.

Here's a secret that not everyone knows.
When you disable windows firewall, you don't disable it, you just disable the ability to modify your ports/interface with the firewall.
Example - If you had Port 80 closed when you turned the firewall off, Port 80 will be closed until you open it somehow.
That's why it's always a bad idea to disable your packed-in firewall (generally.)
Your computer will always prompt you for exceptions and the like, but unless you get that fancy pop-up box that says "TERRARIA IS TRYING TO DO SOME DOWNLOADIN OR WHATEVER" you're on the short end of a long stick.
Still, I cannot get on the server.
Have you tried to update your ethernet/wifi drivers?

Did you try your laptop at all?
Cause it'd be nice to know if this is because of your computer or your network.
Won't work on the lap-top.
If you can't connect with a laptop than it means it's a network problem.
Which means you need to check your router's settings.

Found something:
Norton Security Suite might just be the problem. Looking up some bits, seems others have had similar problems
Do I need to disable everything on Norton?
checking. Disabling firewall isn't a good thing.
add "TerrariaServerAPI.exe" to your exceptions list
Also, Norton is shit. You can do better.
Having trouble finding that file.
Can you help me out here?
EDIT: I don't think I have that file. When trying to verify integrity of game cache it says I am missing one file and that it will be reobtained. Does that each time I try though.
In the first place, do you have a legal copy of Terraria?

Which file? also, just shorten that to Terraria.exe. you know how to add exceptions, right?
Yes, I'm running a legit copy of Terraria that I purchased from Steam.
It's already an exception for the firewall.

find something other than norton. just see if that makes a major difference.
I'm a former Norton user myself, it sucked ass IMHO.
I doubt it's related to a firewall or anti-virus stuff.
If the laptop had issues with connections as his computer does, than it's a network issue.
Can you tell us when it first began?
Ever since I've had Terraria.
Also, I never tried it on my laptop, I meant Terraria flat out doesn't work on my laptop. It's too crappy.

It really can't even get to the menu? Find a friend with a laptop or a parent's computer and try it on your network. I hope you know at least one person who owns a laptop.
Either way, it sounds like a network issue not a computer issue.
