General Information:Basic summary: if you have even a basic interest in Star Trek, you need to try this game. I know very little beyond Deep Space Nine, but I absolutely adored it - there's a seemless mix of missions, and for the monthly cost, there is an enormous amount of variety and value. Think of it as a slightly more casual Eve.
Ship combat - and ground combat - are fantastically tactical, relying on position and strategy more than builds or level. Getting in position for a consistent broadside in a space battle, or successfully flanking a group of Klingon with your team is very effective. Oh, and the character designer - and graphics - are absolutely phenomenal. If you can, try out the 'alien' option, that allows you to create a massive array of creatures - even going through randomly generated options is mind-blowing.
Leonard Nimmoy voices most of the narrative - that's a major, major treat - and the entire game's packed with fantastic moments such as taking on a Borg cube, or meeting a holographic Leeta (the character gave up her appearance for a hologram back in Deep Space Nine). It's fantastic, and I fucking love it!
Oh, and there's a free trial here (https://www.startrekonline.com/user/free_demo_start/Cryptic), so you can see if you'll enjoy it.

I've tried it, it's quite good but still.... I have not seen any game yet worth the monthly fee.
Just gonna wait for Star Wars the Old Republic.

Words cannot describe my hope and anticipation for that game.
I've watch some previews for The Old Republic, and it doesn't seem like it will live up to any anticipation.
Stop pushing down my dreams...
My mother used to tell me a story of me and my friends playing when I was... six? Seven? We were playing some kind of princess game, I didn't want to, and then decided I would be Princess Leia and ran around protecting the princesses with my lightsaber.
Most MMO's don't live up to any anticipation,
But still SWTOR looks better than most of them,
It looks more like a KOTOR online.
It didn't feel like it at the *cons.
If SWG didn't get that update, it would have been a fine MMO.
Also, I watched a teaser for like PvP combat, and it was silly. It had pretty standard looking animations. The whole run into your enemy and start dishing out your 'special moves' into they die.
Yeah I havent heard anything good about Star Trek. I am proably not gonna play anymore mmos. I was gonna buy rift since a few of my buddies did I was like nahhh.
The game is okay until Rear Admiral, then there is nothing to do besides a few daily missions and one "raid".

That is a problem in all MMO endgames - however, Cryptic's MMOs particularly struggle to overcome this problem, I have found.
Agreeing with Pink, a lot of MMO's are boring after you reached the max. level cap.
But that's why I hope with SWTOR the stories of the Republic and Empire are a lot different from each other.
And that those choices you make also influence it just like in KOTOR, so that you can redo the game atleast a few times in different ways. And different friends.
You know what would be totally cool?
Star Wars or Star Trek roleplay. Even better, alternate timeline Star Wars set during the timeline of the original movies.
Ah well, work out an idea and put it on the idea forum.
ON totally another hand
That THQ Warhammer MMO looks pretty fucking sweet.

LET FLY, ALL GUNS.
Are you all done hosing down the thread with testosterone, Raggy? :P
He's never done, anyways you could also still try SWG before the update. Because there's some private servers for that.
Private servers are so buggy and filled with cheaters.
