Finally, I have arrived. Paying the mercenaries to smuggle me trough was a worth investment. Now to find my father... I don't think that's going to be easy. Seeing as the Ukranian Military wouldn't give me any answers. In fact, they haven't given any answers or answered anything about him since his last assignment. Which was twenty years ago. I was only a baby then. All I have left from him is a picture and all his shiny medals and awards. Bravery, honor and so on... It's hard to believe a person like him would just become a ghost. Mom always said he was a strong man, so I hope he's here somewhere,...alive. As all I could find out is that this was his last stop. The Merc who smuggled me trough had killed a bandit in a futile attempt to rob and kill us. He gave me the equipment and said I'd need it. I've been looking around. Others have a lot better gear. But this seem to be like the ideal rookie equipment or so it seems. We are called S.T.A.L.K.E.R.s, yet I have no idea what that means or why do they call us this. Has to do something with artifacts. I don't think these even exist nor do I want them. It's just all probably made up. And even if it's true. It's said they give cancer and are radioactive. People seem to have the habit of sitting around campfires here. Telling stories... Maybe in one of those, I could hear of my father. I will tend to sit around them and listen. I wonder how he looks like now...he should be very old by now...and this place...it is so desolate and full of youth, why would he stay here? Why did he never come back? Why didn't he write?
I must find out. Even if it means never coming back...or else.
It's late....and I'm tired. I'm going to sleep...

I enjoyed reading this!
Was the end his father in the red? I enjoyed this though :D.
Music stopped as I finished reading it. That was insanely epic.

I have found him! Well, I didn't but I know where he is! I'm so excited! I can't believe it after twenty years! Can it be possible he's still alive?! According to the dutiers he is. First thing today I've done was ask a trader for a job. He gave me one. I've asked a fellow stalker. Artyom. He had a lot of good gear. A suit which name I don't know but looks cool. And a good gun. He helped me scout out the area trader told me to. He asked for 2/3 of the pay, which I gave him.
After I got some cash I asked the trader about my father and he directed me to the dutiers. After some time I was in their base, they searched me and told me to keep my gun holstered which I did. That's when I found out he was the Lt. Col of the 85th Battalion Cloaked Daggers of Duty. Well. Not what I expected but fits him. Always was the military type. They told me he's in Rostok. Dutiers were somewhat shocked to see me but they pointed me in the right direction and some of them has even marked dangerous spots on my map and safe spots.
The road was calm. I hope it will stay that way. I miss mother. I will e-mail her now.

"Dear mother,
I have made it to The Zone safe and sound. I am sorry I haven't contacted you sooner. But it had to be this way. I will not rest until I find my father. The life in The Zone is harsh with all sorts of people, creatures and things that are simply out of ordinary and completely unexpected. Like anomalies. It's a beautiful , deadly and radioactive place.
Here's to what I've found out about father. He's been here the last 20 years. After the military left him to die, he along with others who survived has formed a stalker clan. Stalkers are people who make it to the zone alive. His clan or group is named Duty. He was a Lt. Col of a 85th Cloaked Daggers Battalion. An officer of Duty told me that he was moved to Rostok. One of the soldiers marked it on my map with dangerous and safe areas. And don't worry about me! I've got food and water!
I've even got a gun and some sort of protective suit! I'll be fine. I'm sorry I did not tell you I was leaving.
Another interesting thing is that Duty is a para-military group who is there to destroy The Zone. I find this cause noble. But why hasn't he messaged us remains unknown to me. I'm going now. Wish me luck.
I love you and miss you.
Yours truely,
Ulman."

I am here. My father too. I have seen him and he has seen me. The feeling is, I can't describe it. I feel happy that I've found him. I've pleaded him to come back home. He said he could never come back. The reason for that is that he can't look mother in the eyes after twenty years and just say I'm here. Worst part of it is that I don't know what to tell to mother. That I couldn't find him? It's going to be hard to wipe the smile of my face. For the first time in my life I don't know what to do. Which way or option to pick. It's confusing but I understand why he can't go back. He .... asked me to join Duty, to stay here. But how will I ever leave mother...I can't do that to her. She, alone? She will be broke before you know it. I must speak with my father more about this. Mother always said I looked a lot like dad. Now I know what she meant by that. Maybe mother won't forgive me for leaving her... Maybe it's best I stay here, join Duty, be like my father, send money to mother from what I earn in the zone. Yeah, maybe it's best that way. I can't help to notice the emptiness in my words. Yet I'm happy or am I? Why did it have to come to this? Couldn't it be all much more simple. Just to forgive and get over it. I don't know what to do anymore , what to believe, where to live...it's all become pointless. My search has brought me nothing but sorrow. I see that now. Maybe it would have been best if I never found my father.
