" They have no set goal and no headquarters or central command. As such, mercenariess operating in the Zone can be violent thugs on the payroll of bandits (eg. Wolfhound's Curs or Dushman's mercs) and at the same time well-equipped professionals who do the job with as little bloodshed as possible (Hog and Leshiy). Their modus operandi and organization in general depend on the employer and the assigned objective. " -Stalker Wikia
It just came upon me that stalkers on our server have no trust issues with mercenaries. As I thought, we went mostly hand and hand with the Stalker universe, albeit we are in between two of the story lines. However, why can a squad of mercenaries walk into a bar, and no body notice? Especially unarmed, or inadequately armed stalkers. To me, and I've played through all three stalker games, Mercenaries shouldn't be looked upon as hostile, but people should act cautiously around them. Information, everything, you could mention you know someone, and hell, if that mercenary had a bounty or mission involving that person, he could abduct, and kill you for the targets whereabouts.
We've also have had a wave of self-proclaimed mercenaries (lolmercs), which basically are 5 stalkers that get a recon suit and roam around, tough as nails. I think mercenaries should get a charter or at least back story, because, I quote from the stalker source again: " Mercenaries operate in independent teams. In fact, referring to them as a single faction is erroneous - mercenary teams operate independently of each other, completely autonomously." Rarely does a mercenary work alone in the stalker universe, usually in squads of 3-6. They know their skill sets and abilities, and have had recent combat experience. But in our server, putting on a mercenary recon suit makes you completely reliable to hire.
This little rant was here because of the blatant clash of factions, and the wave of lolmercs is kind of annoying too.
Oh and If im missing some rule about this, feel free to correct me.
I've brought this up many times. In the actual Stalker Universe, mercenaries are usually expert teams hired by either Nations or Rich Bastards. They all have goals and set objectives, most of them even hate the zone. They aren't great at survival, they're essentially soldiers.
The mercenaries of SRP are shit. Everyone is a self-proclaimed mercenary, as if it's some cool title. They go around asking for work or people who are needed dead, though they could do the same thing as a Stalker. When half the "Stalker Population" is mercs, and this statistic is accurate at certain times of day on the server, there's a serious problem. Well not serious, but really damn annoying.
One reason is because of the ridiculously priced Sunrise Stalker suits, which should be a norm. People go for Mercenary (Recon mostly) suits because they're cheap, and "look cool". To start with, remove the actual Recon Merc Suit item. Yeah, remove it. Reduce the price of the regular sunrise, or add in more variants and skins at a lower price (Without the gasmask and such).
There are only a few "proper" mercenary organizations or characters on the server, and they're all made up of veteran members. People should be prohibited from creating "Self-Proclaimed Mercs" yet again, to stop this flow.
Also, why not organize actual mercenary groups with an In-character goal? One problem is that no events or roleplay ever "furthers the story" nowadays, and everything is at a standstill. Some incidents happen, people come and go, nothing changes. Adding these sort of groups (Organized by administrators, for example) which would be Semi-Event factions, would help this.
QuoteCurrently, mercenaries are the most of stalker population. Almost everyone is hostile to mercenaries, unfriendly or simply hates them beyond belief because they are considered cut throats, in the games. On our server they are loved, cared for and given special treatment. My suggestion is to keep the original behavior towards mercenaries as in the games. However it's all dependant on the team of mercenaries we are talking about. In the games there is talk about mercenary camps. Such places should be made. Further more something new should come on the stage. Mercenary bounty & mission board. Anyone can put up bounties or missions on the board, however to keep it alive, admins will set up missions or bounties for mercenary to do/collect. The bounty board will always have contracts on it.
How do we stop one mercenary group from taking all contracts?! They will abuse! That's where we make up mercenary code of conduct. Only one bounty, contract or mission can be accepted by one mercenary group. Upon finishing the mission, bounty or contract, the said group or person can accept another or take.
Mercenary groups or lone mercs can improve their standing with certain factions or other people. Stalkers need to be more hostile to mercs, in the games they would shoot each other on sight, or they would warn each other. Going too close meant a fight.
From my suggestion reform.
**The Sanctioned, killing & hating mercs since it was made.
Well the thing is, I am a stalker with a merc suit, and yeah I bought a recon for cheap protection, but everyone stereotypes you depending on your suit, so I walk around doing normal stalker shit and people randomly come up and go "hey merc" and do one of the following, attempt to hire me, ask me what a "merc" is doing in their area, or declare they hate mercs and attempt to kill or rob me, as such essentially the role of a mercenary is forced on me, you really can't be what you want with allthese irritating stereotypes. There really should be cheap sunrise variants.
I've walked in on sanctioned plenty of times, in my merc suit and without it. I get treated fairly and even offered missions. Might want to either change that slogan, or re-educate your members.
Oh really, because I did the same with my merc suit on and got shot in the face.
I agree with dude there are to many stereotypes on SRP people in bandit suits such as the bandit coat mail bandit suit and trench coats and such are declared suspected bandits or people in a merc suit are called mercs i think that there should atleast be some cheaper variants of the sunrise suit so that atleast
people can stop being suspected of being mercs or bandits because most people..just wear the suits because they look cool or provide protection and the only good and actually remotely affordable suits that offer decent protection or look cool are the merc and bandit suits and the only affordable stalker suits are the leather jacket and mail rookie jacket
I always thought it would be cool if we could add variants for the rookie jakcet with a gas mask on and whatnot like how they have with some of the bandit on SoC, that might encourage people who aren't mercs to buy something else.
Yeah, the merc suit is slightly more attractive than an Anorak with a face mask..

And I wonder where you got the term "Anorak" from.

Lol, it's a leather jacket.
Anyway, this topic is valid again, we have that "Fad" of pseudo-mercenaries and more and more people are becoming wanna-be badasses..
Honestly we need a charter of mercs. Kind of like a rating system, and the board is all IC. You rate the merc from best result to worst, then pay them based on that. Mercs shouldnt be paid a load of money just because they are mercenaries. They could suck, you have no idea what they are capable of.
I like that idea, it will make harder to the lolmercs get jobs and they will decide to just be stalkers or lolbandits
We had an event Driven Merc group ran by cutch, it died though since we where basically funded out of our own pocket, which was a nightmare, so we ended up falling out and splintering off, with such factions as the Camulus Retainers and such.
(In my own personal opinion that nobody HAS to care about) I like the rating system but i think instead of trying to find a way to make it harder for lolmercs to get jobs we should make it easier to be a stalker and other stuff like that. though i do think the rating system would help stop lolmercing we would probably just get a wave of lolbandits robbing every stalker they see (Again nobody HAS to care about my oppinion)

And for that we'd get a loner clan keep that population at bay.
Why don't we have a rating system for everyone in the zone except for military and eco.......The games have it. Everyone in the zone are basically mercs.
Yes. Stalkers need to get more jobs. Stalkers are cheaper than mercs, and are less likely to scam you if you get their name. They are an easier target if they backstab you too. I hardly saw friendly mercs that approached stalker bases etc in the games, most were military/privatized science mercs.
