Title: Eating
Post by: Sheperd on 11-01-2009
I thought i would share this idea of mine. Well what i was thinking is that you have to eat. And maybe you could have little rabbits and little animals your could hunt for food. Like after you kill it you could go and grab its meat or somthing then later fry it up and eat it. I thought that would be a somewhat good idea so you could have some more role play as a peasnt

This can be something good but something bad, too... IE : You're doin' an epic RP and got no time to eat... Death will get you and RP is ruined... Know what I mean?

What if, not eating, just slows you down and make you weak (slightly blurry screen too, maybe?) but not kill you. The effects would be quite subtle and let you know your character is hungry without ruining the roleplay. I really like the idea of being able to hunt rabbit and cook its meat over a camp fire :D

Yeah that makes sence but it could be any little critter so I thought it would be a good idea. You dont need to die but like gordon said just weakens your character temporarly

I sense a hint of people seeing if they can go after killer crocs, thinking they are almighty for its hide and food.

Its been done before and personally i think its just a sink to annoy players. Sure its neat and everything but it gets really quite annoying after awhile.

Well then how about there is no hunger, just the possibility to hunt, skin and eat? That way eating is just another little thing that's possible to do in the game but is entirely optional.

Like automatic /me commands, like stomach growls

Would be cool to see a hunger system, some people never purchase foods.

What about Food = Health (Not over max ofc)

Well, If it didn't effect health and only did a /me then it still would just be annoying, if someone is a good role-player then should just eat every now and then.

So your saying that you want little bunnies hopping around so you can go up and bonk it? Sounds like something you can RP, not need models, a coded system, etc.

What the hell is the point in doing a mod if we're not gona code anything other than some user interface?? This is a game for heavens sake! I mean, whats the point in RPing in a game engine if all we're doing is "dressing up" (having custom character models) and acting?? Surely if you don't want any gameplay and nice little "extras", you don't actualy need a game to it in? You would be better off RPing in the real life mate!
Im not gona waste my time making custom models for an interface being passed as a gamemode.

Your charcater being able to eat is a great idea, because there would be animations to show it, which would be awsome to imerge your character in the story and the world he/she is living in(which would help with the RP!) .

It would help with the RP alot infact, like opens up more RP things to RP. If you know what i mean :tt2:

Gordon, a real RP'er can RP anywhere, at anytime, with whatever props available. We don't need fancy script shit to RP. In fact, I don't want NPC's hopping around that we can hunt. It will LIMIT RP. Trust me when I say this, I've been RP'ing for 7 or 8 years, I have experience, and experience tells me that it will LIMIT the RP. So will a hunger mod. If we had animations for every fucking thing, we wouldn't need /me's, and then this place would suck dick.

Well, whats the point in using a game engine if you're not going to make good use of the resources available?? Its so pitiful seeing a game engine like Source in the hands of people who do nothing but make an interface and call it a mod! I mean, think of the potential Source offers to RPing.

Iv had expeience in making games and to me I dont understand why people wouldnt want to use the engine to its full potential! Why would have animations ruin roleplay?

To it's full potential? We are not professional game designers. We are not character artists. We are not animators (correct me if you or Ducky is any of these). This is going to be modified role-play script, it's not like we are making a full-fledged modification here, such as Age of Chivalry.

We kinda are, since gmod is actually the sandbox gamemode, we are just borrowing the engine for the loveable lua code, thats why, id choose gta mta over samp, Lua is awesome !

love the idea...if you ask me, it would be a really good achievement to decrease the need of having to use the "/me"

You must be lazy, using /me in great detail is fun.
