[WIP] New Armor Models

Yeah, its about that time during the year where I start wanting to dick around with hacking and slashing models apart and making something cool. I want ideas, if they come out well and don't cause too much fuss, some more diversity on server armor would be badass.

Couple of Rules,
-More you describe how you think it should look, the better chance I have of making it look like that.
-Pictures and links are awesome
-Write up your own shit about the armor (backstory?) to give me a better idea of what the armor should feel like (Western, Eastern, Chinese Lead Based children toys., ect.)
-No dumb shit like, "Oh that sounds good" or "Wow that looks great" or "Wow that looks like shit". Post what you do or do not like about the models, what you think would improve upon them, so on so forth. No bullshit post count boosting posts.
-Anything I think of later to add to this list

I thought about several things that we could do, the first one would probably only require a rip from the game.

The basic millifag model that you first encounter, with only body armour on, this'd be good for Privates as the current millifags look like Camo wearing SAS, if you know what I mean by that.

Another thing we could have are Faction variations, hood down balaclava on, hood up no balaclava, hood down no balaclava, and so on, this'd for Freedom and Duty, it'd also add variation in a number of different situations, it gets boring shooting the same freedomers, they all look the same :V

I noticed in Clear Sky that Bandits either had modded Merc armour or Bandit mercs, an example is this here: http://stalker.wikia.com/wiki/File:Senka.jpg

This would also add variation to the Bandits and there small troupes.

Now this is what bothered me alot with SoC, I expected the bandits to look awesome like this:

But they infact look shit, unarmoured and to me, crapply outfitted loners, I would KILL for all merc models to be replaced with that one, its so much cooler, it looks like a Mercenary kit and I am sure others would agree that one > the current one we have.

We could do with some enhanced loner armour, thats just a retex of the Clear Sky armours, it'd be in between the Sunrise suit and the Loner jacket, it'd be cheaper and it'd be good for loners to.

Like that, ya' know, no Toothpaste-blue camo, just the boring "Zone" green, the colour of a Sunrise suit, just a bit more basic.

Ecologist models should be tweaked to the HazMat suits, the orange and green ones, the Blue ones they have look more merc than mercs at the moment.

Lastly I'd say the server could do with a Hood down model for bandits.

Actually that Model would work better for officers, His hat(Cant remember what they are called) Is a typical sign for higher officers and he is also a Majors so.. See my point?

Also i think the standard military suit needs redoing.
A model for all ranks?
Well recruit-corporal can be the same.

Current model is more spec-oppy.

I have all the CS models ripped. They are in a [.ogf] files for ragdolls and [.omf] files for animations. Ill look into it and see what I find.

You can't covert CS ogf files into a importable file type for 3D editing programs.
Don't know why, you just can't.

That Merc suit is a slightly recolored and rucked version of the eco suit Zarrick.
I got access to the CS light and heavy armors so they'll be ported into the game soon enough.
The exosuits have already been fixed by someone else, why you haven't used them is beyond me.
I've already planned on doing some mask-less merc models and some de-hooded jackets, maybe a trench like the Irishman from the SoC cinematic.

Soldiers inside the Zone are most likely to be Military Police or Infantry, not special forces for something as trivial as guarding a post. Besides, SF for the military wear SKATs.


Also keep in mind that loner/open to everyone models get priority over faction armors.

I know. I just want to get more models into stalker. I dont like the custom ones as much.

I love the merc suit on that picture, maybe a variation of the current merc suit then? So we can have less IDENTICAL mercs.

I would love to see the Scientist model you pointed out for SRP, but we need a modeler.

Also... The SKAT... The whole hand problem, i think it needs sorting, looks kinda silly.

I have gotten them into 3ds max. I set it to use Direct X which it cant do cause I have DX10...

And now its on OpenGL... :3 lets get some textures on this bitch.


EDIT: didnt like OpenGL. Lets try Software ... :(

Whoever originally rigged all the STALKER models was a lazy ass. They're rigged poorly and they didn't even bother with the fingers, where a shitty rig there at least makes them look decent when holding a weapon.

Scientist model should be easily obtainable from SoC, then its a simple rig and compile.

More light armor and coats I plan on adding over some of the larger shit. I finally finished up all of my tests so I'll probably start producing shit here in the next few weeks.

Could be whatever process you used to convert the models removed their UVW maps, meaning you'd need to re- UVW unwrap to re-apply the texture. Which I wish you good luck with

On top of that, they have a text file that has all the joints FOR a ragdoll. Its not the person who took them out that did a shit job, its no one having and idea how the fuck to convert them straight. Like. When I am doing is weird.

STALKER joints mean jack with source rigs. They need to be re-rigged to the source skeleton for them to use source animations (like the rebels/combine/ect). Whoever rigged them to the source skeleton did a shit job, not even bothering with the fingers and weighing certain parts to areas where they don't belong. But seriously, don't talk to me like I have no idea what I'm doing please :V

So you would be able to sort problems liek the SKAT out?

First stop, sorting the SKATS out, next stop, getting DUTY SKATs :D
