Tell your characters' back story: 1994 - 2004 (Childhood)
An average childhood in your good old Sub-urban estate outside Manchester. Samantha was a very popular girl, had any friend she wanted. Her family was close Mother, Father and Sam. She was always pushed by her parents to do well in school and keep her head down, she knew she had to. How could she fail her Parents? Her Primary School grades were; 5 in Maths, 5 in English and a 6 in Science. (Two B's and an A (Aprox.)) Good grades to move into High-school with.

2004 (The Seven Hour War)
The first of the portal storms hit 25-hours before the war. It was nothing unusual to have a small Portal Storm It maybe happened randomly once every few months, if that. Samantha, 10 and her Family went about their normal lives.

The second Portal Storm hit about Six hours later it was strange to have one so soon after the other. Countries all around the world began to get concerned. Again Samantha's Family went about their life, although they kept their eyes glued to the news.

The Third and Fourth Storm hit 15 Hours after the first storm, one after the other. Both getting more violent and larger as they passed. The National Government put out a warning people to vacate to nearby cities. Samantha's family moved in with her auntie in Manchester. And held out until the fighting began...

25-Hours after the the first Storm. The portal storm had knocked out most of the power in the country Manchester had none. The City, along with all the other major cities was under Martial Law, everyone under house arrest, people without houses put into make-shift tents. Samantha was sat at her aunties bedroom window, watching a 3-man patrol team walk down the street... Unearthly sounds begin to emit all over the city, the 3-man patrol team quickly turned around and began running towards the perimeter of the city. The sound of guns discharging could be heard all over the city. About ten minutes later a wounded soldier stumbled back along the street. Samantha looked in terror, her father quickly covered her face, Their heads began to drum, Sam grayed out for a few seconds then a large unearthly whine could be heard, she passed out. She re-woke about 20 minutes later looking around the room, her mother was crying in the corner, no sign of her aunt and father. Samantha ran to the window, the building around were half destroyed, bodies and body parts scattered along the street. Another unearthly whine emitted from the street, Samantha Blacked out again.

2004 (Post Seven hour war)
Four days later Samantha found herself waking up in a train-car propped up in a seat, leaning against another girl. Samantha Looked around, the whole train-car was full of children ranging from Eight to Sixteen. All the children were crying, even the the older ones. Samantha looked to the girl on her right and asked whats the matter and where are they. The girl simply began to cry harder. Samantha was in the train car for about thirteen hours. Being fed once with Military emergency rations.

Samantha and the other got off the train in a Russian City, military men hustled the into a housing complex. Where they waited for several days. They were told they would be going to work on an assembly line dismantling electronic devices such as computers and mobile phones.

2010 (Combine Rule)
A lot had changed in the six years Samantha, now 16, was still working in the factory, now also being brainwashed with combine ideas. The guards now looked more like Robots with a white mask and electronic voices and they had things they called "Stun Battens", kind of like a cattle prod. Instead of dismantling old electronics they were now building things called "Scanners", at a very high quality. Samantha had moved up the line and was now controlling how the assembly line was ordered. She got more food and didn't have to do quite as much manual work.

2012 (Combine Rule)
The day Samantha turned 18 she was drugged and thrown from the factory into a foreign world known as City 18. Samantha woke in the 45th apartments, Room 5b a citizens handbook next to her on the floor. She looked around wondering what had happened, she tried the door. It was locked. She tried to look out of the filthy windows only seeing blurred lights below, she eventually notices the book then sat in a corner and read it cover to cover - Knowing almost instantly how useful it would be.

Eventually the door unlocked and one of the "Guards", which she now knew where called 'Civil-Protection' strolled in, demanding an answer to weather she had read the book or not, she replied with a yes and was let go.

2012-2014 (Combine Rule)
Samantha went about an average Citizen life although she was always first to work on the assembly line, and always first at rations- Come to think about it she was first for almost anything Pro-combine, she often and openly reported AC activity in her block and NEVER EVER had possession of Contraband.

2014 (Present Day)
Today Samantha finally came to the decision of applying for a place in the Civil-Protection, she carefully analysed the application, filling out a draft first, triple-checking the information. She began filling in the correct information, in the best handwriting she could do, on the real application sheet. She hurried to Nexus Lobby, handing in the application.
