Yuri Fedorov snuck into the Zone about 8 months ago in search of rare Artifacts, which were said to be worth many times their weight in gold. He heard all about the Zone from news reports, but thought that the hazards of the Zone were exaggerated so that the STALKERs who were already there could keep their monopoly on the Artifacts. So he loaded up his pistol and hunting rifle, and illegally crossed the fence into the Zone.

He wandered through a forest for quite some time before coming across some other STALKERs. They sat, talked, and ate for a while before they were interrupted by a wandering Bloodsucker. It managed to kill a couple of the STALKERS before the rest brought it down. The survivors decided to leave, just in case it had friends. Yuri spent quite some time observing the beast, even taking pictures of it with his digital camera.

By nightfall, Yuri had made it to a stalker camp that was built around some old abandoned Soviet-era fallout shelters. He spent the night down in one of the bunkers, clutching his rifle, with only a bare lightbulb hanging over his head. Every time he heard gunfire out in the distance, or a roar coming from somewhere near the base, he would tense up... and so he didn't get much sleep that night. After all, if a bloodsucker turned invisible, it could walk right past the guards and come kill him. He never imagined there could be anything this terrifying.

The next morning, he resolved to do something about it. Suddenly, finding artifacts and getting rubles was the furthest thing from his mind. He now had it in mind to find the Duty group and join them, in order to fight off these mutants. He grabbed his gear and headed off in search of the Dutiers...
