Performing Home Surgery

This was so insane and surprising to me, that I immediatly had to take pictures and make my own thread. I'm sure I'll catch flak for not posting this in the Woes thread or something, but I'm going for it.

As readers of the 'Woes' thread and medical threads know, I have had a large problem with my right big toe and an infected ingrown toenail. I've trimmed the corner off multiple times, and keep cleaning it and removing goo from the corners. Yummy stuff.

Today, I was doing the usual cleaning routine. This includes removing any dead skin I can find from the area. Today I noticed a white spot on the very corner of my toe. I had seen it before, and in the past it was a pus sac, or abscess. I would remove as much skin as I could from the top of the white spot, pop it with a needle, widen the hole, squeeze out as much pus as I could, then wash the area with alcohol and slap a bandaid on it.

When I tried to do that this time, I skipped the needle and just tried to pop it by snipping the top with toenail clippers. It didn't pop. I kept trying to pop it, and it wouldn't pop, so I began to pull. It felt like it was connected to something, and hurt like a motherfucker. It was obviously NOT supposed to be there, so I just kept pulling on it. Finally it slipped out of my toe, and THIS is what I found.

The corner of toenail had broken off, and become stuck in my foot. After a lot of time, it migrated THROUGH my toe, and started poking out the other side. It wound up being 2-3mm wide and 4-5mm long. A shard of toenail, freefloating, not attached to anything. Broke off my toenail, and pushed its way through my flesh and skin, and almost poked out the other side.


That white chunk was extracted from the little pinhole. The pinhole is under the bloodspot, but is about HALF the size of the bloodspot (Not the hole, the bloodspot. There's a hole, then the blood welled up in the bottom of the hole).

I wonder how you saved this from the void.. but heh... kinda reminds me of a needle prick..

Have you pulled out the nail yet? if it grows over it.. that will cause alot of problems in the distant future...

It's copied from another forums. Note the mentioning of a 'Surgery' and 'Woes' thread. Yes, Silver, it is a pinprick. Now imagine having that chunk of toenail pulled out of that pinprick. See why it's a bit bigger of a deal? The pinprick of a hole is nothing. What I pulled out of it pretty much equals my toe giving birth.
