Error: hl2.exe has stopped working.
Occurs when join, more specifically, after Sending client info. when a dark screen says "Please wait while server config is retrieved."
I toned down my graphics and I am also able to load the map in singleplayer. I even went as far as dumping my addons and it didn't have any effect. I was recommended to add several commands into garrysmod/properties/Launch options and that had no affect either.
Yes, I am new to this server and tonight is my first night connecting. Asking a few people on the server has left them in confusion and sent me here.
Any help?
I would suggest posting your computer's specs along with any downloads you may have. I know you have Open Aura downloaded but I have the same version as you so it must be a different addon.
Do any more of the computer savvy members think if may be his servers and other computers pulling on his connection that's doing this to him? He's tried loading in windowed, lowering graphics, running a few advanced start up commands. I'm as stumped as I'll ever be, really.

He might have some bad addons which cause it to crash. We don't use open aura for the record, we use Worldscript which is a variation of Nexus.

That's what I was told on the server yesterday. It was a fear that the version of OA we have downloaded was conflicting with the gamemode itself but I can join with no issues. He cleared his addons aside from the SVN downloads and he was still unable to join.

The addons and game content are not the issue. I wiped my garrysmod, only saving the SVNs and I still have the problem. I honestly have no idea what is causing this problem.
Khorn believes it may be something related to any media player (anything like VLC) that automatically updates and connects to the internet. Nathan is looking through his downloads right now to see if there's a fix.
Edit: Turns out he DID have VLC installed. He uninstalled and it's working now.
He got a party hat for finally being able to come on.

I still don't understand how VLC could of caused Hl2.exe to crash.....
Same issue I had. Forgot the details. But it was related I think to codecs and somehow connecting to the net.
You can reinstall it again, as I have it again and play FRP. But if the issue ever returns, you know what to do.
