Title: Canon Vote Discussion
Post by: Spades_Neil on 02-02-2012
This is where you discuss the changing of canon and its pros / cons.

I will stay out of the conversation unless flaming occurs. At least if that happens I can lock the thread without fucking things up.

What are the 'Major' Factions going to be and who will lead them?
Are there going to be any weapon changes and armor changes?
Any new Flags or system of Roleplay we need to know about?
Will the first week will the Major Factions be IC join so we can populate them?
Will there be any Factions that 'might' become Major Factions? Such as Arlington Company?

Just purely assumptions here at this point and I'm pretty sure you're asking about Fo1/Fo2 canon here.

There was no direct major factional conflict in FO1 nor after it up until FO2.

Almost none, except some small tidbits. Weapons will be the same, but they won't be identical to the current ones. I.E Laser Rifle will be about 3-5 times heavier than it currently is. FO3 Enclave suits will need to be removed depending on the year.

You will need to roleplay accordingly to the new timeline if it changes.

Can't tell from this point.

Too early to decide this kind of issue.

Thank you for answering. Also the Enclave suits. You can change them to that older model.

If you mean the FO2 rig then I sent it to Silver about a year ago and I don't think he has it now.

One quick note I'll make is Enclave is probably going to be eliminated as a major faction and turned into an event faction / minor faction like Monolith is to SRP. This will also allow its members to join other factions.

That is unless we can bend the rules of the Enclave and have wastelanders at least approach them without getting shot. Otherwise I get the same complaint from Enclave players all the time. They get bored because nobody loves them. :C Personally I'd prefer to keep them as a major faction but that is likely to be nigh impossible.

Enclave should become a minor/event faction which it once was before being removed out of ignorance. If /Enclave/ complains about not being loved, then the members are at fault or the leader is incapable of properly managing the faction, because the main point of Enclave is to eliminate the Wasteland and its inhabitants, not hug and help them.

I believe the Enclave should be kept like it is, as there really aren't many options besides the two we have. The NCR, to my knowledge, was only just starting to set up as a power in the Wastelands, the Legion didn't exist, and I don't know of any other factions from the time. If the Enclave members get bored then they should do something in their base or hell, if they're allowed to, go patrol. Just because there wasn't any major conflict doesn't mean we can't have the two major factions still here...

Unless you decided to bring the Masters Army into the picture. Now that's a thought.

What lol

NCR(previously known as Shady Sands) was already a superpower by 2180s. Enclave is a major faction at the moment(FO3), and it has never been present actively pre-2241(year when Chosen One leaves Arroyo) unless it was a special operation, hence why it should be a minor/event faction in the new canon.

In Nevada probably and it shouldn't be set in California at all. I don't know the exact year, but it must range 2162-2240

Late 2240 so enclave can be introduced to a superpower.

What. It would be FO2 if we take a year after 2241 and I'm sure we'd like to avoid constant major NCR vs Enclave situations

True. Maybe set it to 2236 so it would be matching the fallout text when you spawn. Or maybe earlier as long as that gets fixed.

2236 was our original year, but personally I feel that we should start earlier than that if we're on West Coast.

I must agree. If we're going to change canons again, it's either got to be earlier than 2236 or later than 2278 (if the New Vegas option wins, which I wouldn't mind either).

Fallout 3 has turned out to be extremely restrictive in what we're allowed to do. New Vegas would work and be popular, while something earlier might not get as many players out of quantity but quality of roleplayers.

I hope you guys do realize that if we do switch to earlier canon, you're forcing me to take a risky gamble on the potential playerbase we draw in. If you guys prove correct, then the quality of roleplay will make up and eventually fix the lack of quantity. At least if it's wrong you can't blame me, lol.

IMO the vote shouldn't be "do you want new canon?".
It should just be "are you going to play after introducing new canon?".

Better 10 active, good RPers than 35 Xbox kiddies who can't RP for shit. That's why most of the original FO regulars never set foot on the server again after Silver fucked it.

This.
You won't find it comfortable having a huge bunch of immature kids gearwhoring around the whole map all day long. Instead you should focus on the playerbase that does what the server was designated for; serious roleplay.

Looks like the vote is going in favor of Fallout 1/2 canon. We'll probably do Fallout 2 or something close to it since I'm hearing from most people that it has the most interesting story to it.

We'll work out the specifics soon enough. In the mean time, unless New Vegas and/or Fallout 3 score another bunch more votes, Fallout 1/2 beats out 3 and NV combined--leading to a canon change.
