If only i had 2,000 to build a rig with the intel core i7 980X gulftown six-core. ITS FUTUREPROOF
We havn't mastered quad core tech yet, so getting one of the first gen x-core series is worthless. It'll be surpassed very quickly, by something many times better in only a few months.
'Future-proofing' is a silly thought. You can't do it. Buy the absolute top-end components on the market at ridiculous cost. They'll each be down to a third of that by the time your god-tier build hits its twelfth month of use.
Besides, I've yet to see any sort of software that can use a good quad-core to capacity, let alone anything more. Why spend a huge sum on the shiny new toy when it functionally doesn't even do anything useful for you yet? Give it a year or two and there'll be eighteen more models where that came from, at lower cost, and they'll actually have viable uses.
