Title: Gaming computer, any Ideas?
Post by: mxh24 on 09-06-2011
Okay, I read through the few posts and I dident see a topic about gaming computers... Or I just missed it.

Well anyways, I am working over the summer and so far this laptop is a pain in the ass... Can't even play gmod on medium graphics, and went to fix it like 4 times so far. I am looking for a cheap (Around $500-$900) Gaming computer and/or laptop. Not a super one that can play crysis or the best graphical game on extremely high, just one so I can play the latest games like skyrim and gta IV on high.... Any suggestions would be great.... Now don't forget I am working so I will get money, but not a lot.

Thanks,
Mxh24

Build it yourself.

Or do you need a laptop?

His budget is already on the low side and you are telling him to look at the most expensive companies out there? (assuming you are talking about Falcon Northwest or Alienware or similar).

Yeah... Alienware is not one of my choices, all too high... I am paying rent AND trying to get a pretty good gaming computer...

What about gta, and/or games like that? I've bought many games and I cannot play any of them... Like can it play fallout 3, magika and games like them? I know you wouldn't know. I personally don't know too much about computers...

Then don't complain when it doesn't run as well as it could.

And GTA 4 is horrendously optimized so it will probably run like shit regardless of your hardware. Just accept it and move on lol.

Then what do you, paintcheck, suppose I should do?
I am just in need of a medium/high powered gaming computer... To me 500 bucks is pretty good... I dunno
Right now I play on lowest graphics, textures, models, and lowest settings... I have a toshiba satellite laptop, will this gaming computer make a noticeable difference?

I spent ~$740 on my parts minus monitor and case. It took me maybe an hour to put it together. I found that I can run ARMA 2 at very high settings at a solid FPS. It runs extremely fast.

Asus Mobo (pretty much any one with AM3 support) Phenom II X6 processor, AMD 6950, 6 gb of RAM would be what'd I do. Since you presumably need a case and monitor to go with all this I think $500 is just too low of a budget, though almost anything would be an improvement over a laptop but if you could get an even $1000 your options would open up immensely.

Some custom gaming computers arnt that expensive you just have to look for the right company.

I don't like building computers... and that one is the top rated computer on the website... and it's $500 I could do 1000 but I won't because I am not on the computer 24/7 and I have an xbox... I just like PC gaming more. A gaming computer for me is more like a side (I don't need it, but it would help me out and I would have more fun)... If anyone can find a better one than this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227314 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227314) or just tell me if that is a pretty good gaming computer... I do not need to play games like ARMA 2 on high graphics, I just want one to be able to play some of my favorite games. Thanks.

That's definitely not horrible but some ibuypower cases have been known to have air flow issues that cause them to overheat. And you'll also need a monitor which will be another $150-$200 on top of that unless you already have one.

Had to stay in his budget. 650 is more than enough if he doesn't want to SLI (and he said he didn't in the SF convo I had with him)
