49th Hertfordshire of Foot

British Regiment

The 63th Marines were created on the 25th December in 1743 from 8 independant British companies stationed in Jamacia together. Governor Edward Trelawney was promoted to Colonel of the Regiment, and soon after the Regiment was renumbered to the 49th. Upon ariving home from the campaign in Jamacia, the regiment was assigned to the county Hertfordshire, thus forming the 49th Hertfordshire of Foot. In the colonial period they served in the First Opium War (1839–42) and Crimean War (1853–56). The Regiment had also faught in conflicts in France, China, and Jamacia before being reformed as Royal Marines Marines

We are current partners with the 9th Grand Foot, another British Line Infantry Regiment in Napoleonic Wars.
