The Situation - A cover-all announcement for 1.8 and 1.9

I'm going to break this announcement into three parts.

A. The 1.8 and 1.9 Updates

B. Ermor

C. Apologies

Part A - The 1.8 and 1.9 Updates

Alright, in terms of this shit, I've decided we are most certainly updating to 1.8, that's pretty much out of my control and I'd have to be insane not to.

What we will NOT be doing is generating a new map.

I do not have time to oversee the construction of Ermor but I am already sure that very few people want to see all of thier work pulled apart. I, for one, do not have the time to rebuild the Ermorian Walls or design the gates and towers and I totally refuse not to redesign or at least have a hand in the reconstruction of said objects if we were to reset the map.

Part B - Ermor

All of you are not understanding the purpose of Ermor and it's partly my fault and also a great deal of my associate, Quin'tasin's fault merely for not stating the facts as they are.

You are not meant to compete with Ermor

It is like the Main City where everyone congregates. If you've played and medieval game it's a hub city and you do not need to compete with it, at all. We're docile to the point of complacency but we do not tolerate rebels.

You are free to make guilds and factions and clans and tribes and gangs and clubs and lodges and whatever but we DO NOT want external civilizations other than the main city at this point. We will even go to the point of giving you a location to build your Guild Hall if you have enough members.

Ermor's purpose is to consolidate RP. The problem with the last three Aceons was all of the competition between people like Hessen, Bobby, Quintasin and Myself. Although I stopped being a frontrunner as soon as Quin stepped in, the effects of multiple "metropoli" was apparent. The whole 10-player membership was divided up into three-person factions which lead to sparse, fleeting and boring RP at best.

Part C - Apologies
I apologize to anyone who has had a faction obliterated through Quintasin and totally without being informed of all this information and I apologize to anyone who direly wants the new 1.8 content. As soon as bukkit develops the 1.8 jar I will update the server and try to generate the new content in random areas. I also extend my apologies to everyone in Ermor and anyone who has left the server for any reason. I feel we could have amended whatever happened that caused you to flee. Those of you in Ermor, you need to bide with me, please.

Maybe in the future I will allow a city/town to be run by a seperate faction but there is NO NEED to compete with Ermor and there never will be. We provide everything you need, at the current time. We do not lust for power. We do not claim lands. Anyone without a fucking inferiority complex, a goddamn hemorrhage of the brain or a genuine stint in thier mental cognition will see the necessity that people Stop Competing with Ermor. You get nothing from it and Quin has displayed that. People only have everything to gain from using Ermor to its full purpose.

FEEDBACK IS APPRECIATED
With the new crit hits, aimed shots, and other combat materials, will PvP be turned back on?

Seems like there's a huge lack of conflict if everyone is supposed to be good little servants of one main city.

And that's why people make their own factions WITHIN the city. Make a guild of thieves or something, I don't care.

Woop WOOP!

Its about time you made an announcement, or said anything at all, but better late than never I suppose.  I was starting to get tired of people building towns, and responding to me with "no u" when I told them it was official policy to stop.

You asked for Ermor to be the main hub, THE city, and I did that.  Maybe not how you would have liked, but oh well.  I am just glad that we won't need to change maps.

It looks like we can now have an actual "Merchant Guild" faction, "Sellafield Industries" faction, and many more... Maybe an actual council of mages faction thingy....?  :P

I am happy to see that the map is staying for now so all of the hard work put into it is going to stay for a while longer. I am also happy to see that we are changing the map when 1.9 comes out so I don't get bored of the same map for too long. Its a win win in my opinion. Also with the whole factions within the city thing is a great idea to stop people complaining.

Where did he say with 1.9 we are wiping the map?  Or is it just a known fact that we will have to wipe the map when it comes out?

Ive been reading around and I have heard we have to wipe when 1.9 comes out but who knows, maybe its wrong. Ethier way I am just happy to keep the server how it is for now.

I thought 1.9 was only a nether update.

So you say people can make gangs and guilds. Does that mean conflict can happen between these guilds/whatever or do we all have to stay passive? And Arch I think 1.9 is improvements to the 1.8 update, like npc's actually in the villages.
Awesomeness is the best trait one can have

Any idea when we (the server) will be updated?

I am just going by the last two posts in that thread. Port said himself we are definatly going to rebuild Ermor in 1.9 but not yet. BUT 1.9 is SOOOO far away. We don't have to worry about it yet.

And yeah the server will be up whenever Bukkit updates its shit. Shouldn't be too long.

I think all these ideas and the ones Quin set out are great and will add some much needed RP the only thing which I think would add to the server is some external threat. Whether that is controlled by a player in the form of a faction or maybe simply using the zombies/endermen as minions of an evil force and using spawn commands to set up scenarios. I just think it adds an element of danger and something to bring people together.

One thing though i read bukkitt maybe done updating in december

Whaaaat?  Where did you read that?  Bukkit always updates within 5-7 days, I am sure that it won't take them months to update.  If 1.8 is bigger than what they usually have to work with, it may take longer than a week, but it won't be until December, surely?

Also, I know a lot of people have wanted some sort of external threat, an enemy force to spice things up, but the server doesn't have a large enough player base to create that, and I am not really sure Port even wants that at all.  I am sure we can come up with something though, some sort of event, or monsterbox NPCs.  Regardless, we still actually need the server to be up before we can start trying out ideas.

Edit: Aha, found it, from the original post.  "Maybe in the future I will allow a city/town to be run by a seperate faction."  All I can say is, time will tell.

Yeah I definitely think the server needs to be built up a bit more before there is a player controlled enemy faction but I still think we should try and run some events with NPCs just to spice things up a bit.

No one can play until the server updates, but I am like, 99.99% sure that it won't take more than a week.

Guilds/Gangs can have wars. You can have small melee scuffles in the streets but you'll be taken in by guards. In terms of inside the city (until we have an Arena or something) stick to political warfare. If you go outside the city, the guards wont interfere with your goings-on unless you threaten the walls or the sanctity of the city in some way.

TL;DR

One-on-One Fights: Go ahead.
Disarmed, in the city: Risky
Armed, in the city: You gunna die
Both, outside the city: No risk

When I say one-on-one, I mean like duels for honor. You must inform the person you're fighting with you're challenging them or whatever. If you attack someone without being honorbound, it's a crime and you'll be imprisoned, probably. Or executed.

Or people could downgrade which isn't that hard.

:) Ok ok... Announcement was awesome, love the Indoor factions idea (They're will definitely have conflict so don't worry) BUT... I think it is unfair how my friend Firenz0 was BANNED by Quin Tasin for creating a faction and not knowing that Ermor was going to be the only civilization. (Firenz0 didn't specifie to me if it was a perma or temporary ban, or if he was even told for how long). Would it be reasonable to unban him soon? :o
