Title: Bug Report
Post by: Xerdun on 16-04-2011
Sorry to make this its own topic but I didn't see any other bug thread.

So I've been on the server a day or so but have been unable to play for more than 5 minutes at a time. Today everytime I log in the world refuses to load more than a few chunks and I'm disconnected with this error message (internal exception java.net.socketexception software caused connection abort:recv failed) after several seconds.

Could anyone tell me what's happening or how I could fix this. I did some research but had no luck.

Thanks in advance

Xerdun

EDIT: I see on this forum that some people have encountered the same issue. Is it a server side issue or is it my issue?

ok lets finally clear things up. If you can't access the server then its 99% of the time the servers fault. A good way to find out if the server is down is going to a post by Ragolution and looking in his signature box. In it will be the servers status but sometimes it doesn't work. If you ever have a problem with java.net.socket.extension or anything like e.g. internal whatever then it means the server is down. The same for if you encounter connection refused: connect. The only reason it would be your computers fault is if you have no internet connection or you have spelt the ip wrong.

Thank you for the replies guys, however, I had already noticed the server status in Ragolution's signature and it definitely said the server was up at the time of this occurring. To add to this there were other people online as I could see their chat before I was disconnected.

Are there any other possible causes for this experience other than the server being down? Sorry for being a pain in the ass.

Also perhaps on the main page it could be stated somewhere that 99% of the time it is the server's fault so that noobs like me don't come whining? Although I'm fairly sure that this particular problem is the result of something other than the server being down, for the previously stated reasons

From what I understand you're getting a pretty common Minecraft error. I remember when you were coming online and got d/c'd in only a few seconds.

I don't think there's any solution to this short of reinstalling Java and making sure your Video Card drivers are up to date.

Okay, I'll try both of those and test the theory next time the server's up. Thank you very much and I look forward to joining you for more than several seconds in the near future
