The maker took up eight handfuls of stone, one for each finger and one for the thumb.
With which he crafted the great Chiefs of old, the ancestors to the clans who rule.
The eight Chiefs each took up a role and taught their descendants the skills to hone.
The iron and steel blazed by the Smith Chief Koran Ingetium for the tools of trade and war.
The sparkling gems set in shining gold by the Jeweller Chief Quantec Hlagru to adorn wrists and necks.
The tunnels and homes dug out by the Miner Chief Darna Oriksdral to make the paths and abodes.
The hops and wheat grown by the Farmer Chief Azuin Feldign to feast and drink in great halls.
The libations and prayers devoted by the Priest Chief Nurn Durgholm to secure the favour of the Gods.
The battles and war fought by the Warrior Chief Gthar Grimsborith to defend and advance the home and land.
The pelts and meat gathered by the Hunter Chief Varask Schergrol to sustain and clothe belly's and backs.
The statues and homes carved by the Sculpture Chief Torag Gantztroj to please the eye and create comfort.

And so the descendants grew and names were changed though the Heroes were not forgot.
The people of stone spread far and left some mountains behind.
It was then that the scores of clans gathered into the original eight.
And from that the chieftains met, with only old Nurn Durgholm as the last of the first.
As such he was declared High Chief of the Dwarven Superclan and the gods were praised above all.
Yet when conflict arose between the Imperium Nurn was bereft and left.
Outright war soon followed but the evil Hessen was met and destroyed by our brave warriors.
The First Cataclysm struck and the mountain homes filled with lava.
The eight clans ran and found new homes, while some were separated in the struggle.
These few lost rocks sought out their kind among the human kind.

And still hidden deep in the embrace of stone, reside eight clans waiting to emerge.
And claim the lands once held...

~~Footnote~~
This is the saga of the Dwarven History, the remains have been lost in the lava filled mountains that were once homes of the dwarves. The dwarves themselves have remained unchanged in all their time. Dwarves have and it seems always shall, be short, rotund and hairy. Reaching 5 foot is seen as an accomplishment; having a full and long beard is a necessity to advance into a superior social circle. A dwarf is open and friendly and brutally honest, though outwitting an opponent is a joy they seek more than one of sheer strength.

Nice, adding it to the race lore index.  What do you think you will work on next, goblins?
"If you don't expect gratitude, you'll seldom be dissapointed."
