Note: At the request of a few players and the need for some niches, I've decided to reinstate some of the older factions from Desertia's origin, as well as modify a few as well. Please reread in case you missed something.

Major Factions-

GSAF- (Galactic Systems Alliance Federation [Neutral])- The Alliance is a sort of federal government for the galactic body. They oversee every system in the galaxy that is within GSAF space, and regulate any intersystem traffic. If there is a major concern within a system, a regional councellor will go and address this concern. Most of these political figures disregard common folk, and mainly stick to themselves and their jobs, even making their motives and true intents unsure.
(Most likely will not be played by players but more of an event and backstory faction)

XEM- (Xenon Entities Management [Friendly])- Xenon Entities Management is the primary governing social body on Desertia. They were contracted by the GSAF to colonize and govern the social bodies on Desertia, giving basic utilities, some transportation, and a basis for infrastructure for larger cities. They are more active than their GSAF superiors, but they serve little function or influence outside of their offices in their organized districts.
(More or less the political body set up on Desertia. They don't weild much influence as they would in a major city, because these guys are suit-and-tie sorts of people, as opposed to the survivalists of the wastelands. Most likely will not be played by players but more of an event and backstory faction)

CE-(Close Endeavors [Friendly])- CE is a Private Military Corporation who is under contract to help XEM in security matters for their inhabitants. These professional soldiers help provide protection civilians from threats. Enforcing the law is optional.
(PMC police forces deployed to Desertia)

DETS- (Desertian Enrichment Trading Society [Neutral])-DETS are the legitimate traders on Desertia. Selling Equipment, Supplies, Clothes, Armor, and Weapons, these traders are fully XEM licensed to sell their goods to citizens.
(More or less the regular traders)

DS- (Darkened Skyline [Neutral]) - DS are illegal arms dealers on Desertia, selling their sometimes stolen goods to bandits, rebels, and other criminals. These guys fuel the flames of war between good and bad, but sometimes they offer deals that DETS cannot allow.
(Blackmarket Traders)

Rebel- (The Rebellion [Hostile]) - An anarchist group who views the frontier of space as a safe haven from the arm of the law, these past convicts have taken up arms against XEM and the GSAF. Particularly dangerous to people in governing positions, they have notoriously taken hostages and executed civilians. Despite any seemingly common goals, the Rebels rarely work with or for any other group, unable to trust them or their motives. Their fight is a fight to not only save themselves, but also their anarchistic way of life. (Essentially an anarcho-terror group of outcasts. They distrust the law, especially with a paramilitary force such as CE around.)

Ent-( Entanglement [EXTREMELY HOSTILE]) - Little is known about Entanglement or their objectives. These fanatical lunatics are dedicated to widespread death and destruction, and have gained the notoriety as "the one true force of evil". No one knows them, and everyone fears them. Some speculation states that Entanglement operates silently on Desertia; others say they may be inline with "supernatural" forces.

Minor factions

Civies-(In-Classified's [Neutral]) - The regular citizens of Desertia who have decided not to, or have not yet, joined a faction. All new players start as In-Classifieds and are not limited to their faction.
(Everyone starts out as one of these, pretty basic)

Miners- (Miners [Neutral]) - Miners have always been an essential part of Desertia: the planet has always revolved around mining for precious metals. While they are never the best paid, nor the most active in terms of domestic affairs that do not concern their operations, miners are known to be strong and resourceful when called upon.
(Nothing special, just civillians who would rather RP a backstory as a miner (Maybe a minors union could be set up by players))

Militia (Gerian Militia [Friendly]) - Before CE's sphere of influence even arrived on Desertia, a few good sheepdog civilians decided to band together in defense of their town. Now expanding into a fully manned volunteer police force, the militia is responsible for the full enforcement of local law. While CE is a paramilitary group, sanctioned along the same lines, the two groups have grown to distrust each other: CE isn't required to actually enforce law, and the militia is considered a ragtag group of unprofessional GI Joes.
(The Militia is a wholly voluntary job for people who always wanted to play policeman, but doesn't look good in a uniform. Doesn't require a flag, just the willingness.)

Bandits (Bandits [Hostile]) - Bandits are the troublesome citizens that scourge the wastelands. They are bad people with bad reputations in society, but some manage to succeed in profitting off of others. Money and personal profit are their only motives. While not always well armed nor well trained, there are more than enough willing bandits to hassle the public.
(Again, again no flags, just people who would rather RP as bandits. And please, bandits are a good source of RP, but no one's got the robbery gene in 'em... Bandit clans work great.)

Mercs (Mercenaries [Neutral]) - With such rampant lawlessness, self-employed mercenaries are often called upon to do the jobs others either can't or won't. Whether used offensively or defensively, a good mercenary is a powerful and wealthy figure. Several try to fulfill this occupation, but only a few live up to a true mercenary's reputation.
(Again, regular civillians who would rather RP as Mercenaries, other small merc groups may be set up by players)

Other Information and tips:

1. The Rebellion are more guerrilla fighters, they plant IED's and other things, are very anti-social, but can still somewhat "Blend in" with the normal populous. Entanglement? Their dealings are far worse.
2. Although DS is neutral, the buying or possessing of stolen weapons is still illegal and will be enforced by the the militia and maybe CE.
3. Before applying for any faction you must have a back story and character description stored in our Character database.

I thought GSAF stood for Galactic Systems Alliance Federation

I thought GSAF stood for Galactic Systems Alliance Federation

The acronym always jumbled itself around... A LOT. Once, it was something like Galactic Systems Air Force.
I like how Galactic Systems Alliance Federation sounds, though, so I fixed that.

Galactic Systems Air Force was the original name for it until some of us realized "Wait, this doesn't make much sense because they are in space, not air. Also they are a governing body, not just a military force."

Yeah, but the way they operated, it seemed like they were a military force with some politics mixed in.
Eitherway, NOW they're the Galactic Systems Alliance Federation, and they've got politics and the CIA of the future.

Except it's a CIA in the future that is allowed to water bored or is that banned due to human rights(Or alien rights lol)?

Nah I think they've come up with better methods than that by now in 300 years lol

Its called electric interrogation.
