Steam patching to 1.0006

So here is the deal, a friend of mine is having trouble patching the game to version 1.0006 since steam won't let him play after he did. What he want's to do is play multiplayer with me and a friend, and so this bugs him very much.
Anyone knows how to fix this?

1.06 has been recalled by GSC. Just use 1.05. And if I'm correct doesn't steam automatically update to 1.6?

No, steam doesent update to 1.0006 because It's not an official version.
