Okay so for the past few months I have not been able to log into Windows Live Messenger. Here is the error code I receive Error code: 8e5e0408. I have checked the help section but there is no help for this specific error code. I have re-installed messenger many times and I have cleared the registry. Please if anyone has any other ideas or the actual solution to this problem it would be greatly appreciated!

I think its a virus problem, that or you need to reinstall, some tracking cookies screw around with messenger sometimes, if its none of those I don't know

I delete my cookies in IE and Firefox where else can I find them? And I'm pretty sure there are no viruses on my pc.

Wellington, delete your registry, and it should work.

Also: make sure that no virus programs are interfering with it

If that doesn't work try reinstalling, also be 100% sure if you don't got a virus, sometimes they run under the scanner and just interfere with programs, such as my Gmod game....

Well I used windows defender which I know isn't very good. Do any of you know of any freeware virus scanners I could download? And I have deleted the registry before but I'll do it again.

Malware bytes has a good free version, you can use it, not as good as the pay for but its still good and has gotten rid of Vundo for me.

Yes but that's anti-malware. What about an anti-virus program?

Really didn't notice a difference, you could try Norton or something like it.

Hmm... maybe I'll just use this stupid zonealarm firewall I have. But the virus scan is so incredibly slow it's ludicrous. I left it running for about 7 hours and it was 25% done! >:(

You should use Anti-Malware bytes, it's like the best anti virus ever and it's free.
