As a general note, this'll be updated frequently to help myself and other noobies learn and comprehend the finer mechanics of the server!

Spells/Powers of the Magic System questions:
I'm semi-confused due to the fact I have NO idea how spells work, while the app is self explanatory.
Is there a guideline of what we can pick somewhere, or do we just invent them?
Is there a amount of Magicka we're stuck with per-day? Point being, more and more questions.
Are there specific guidelines on using or learning some spells? Can we add/use spells we learned through In-game RP to our applications to further our powers?

Questions concerning play/admin/community interaction:

Why is it so fun to rag on MLA?
What are our plugins?
A general favorite: OMG WHAR IZ NUE MAEP?
Why BR? ( I know this one, but kid's complain about it all day, mostly me.  )
Important note: Don't freak out, Port, Ent, or half our other grammar cops! I'll fix it tomorrow evening!

EDIT: I'll be adding moar questions soon, to the ire of the vet. community!

Lol, I suggested that'n.

Answer to all of them:

All of that information can be discerned by reading threads that we have painstakingly created for just this purpose.

* Grumbles something about user unfriendly interface. * I've looked around, and I've found a few answers, but there are still how to handle the mage-spell apps, mana, and dat stuff. Besides, the point of this is for a rundown of info on all noobies, for once I find answers, I'll edit them in and re-name it FAQ. :3

Why do we screw with MLA? Well you have to realized that it isn't just MLA.... The forums is full of people taking stabs at each other,  mainly for no other reason than that it's fun to do. For me, it's people calling me a fag for playing as an elf with a ponytail and an earring. In fact Port has done it so many times that I got back at him by writing something that I'm not entirely proud of while I was half-asleep... let's not delve into that any further.

The only reason that it seems like MLA is always attacked is well... exactly that. We enjoy screwing with MLA more than anyone else.
See the logic in that?

Port made the magic system, so its expected you get confused.  I am not sure if it is a mechanism to keep unintelligent people out, or if he just really likes to fuck with peoples minds.  Probably both.

Here is the thread for the information Port posted on magic:  http://www.forums.hypergamer.net/locations-places/%28lore%29%28book%29%28magicka%29-a-treatise-on-primitive-magicka-and-spellsmithing/msg137789/#new

Here is the thread for all our old magic applications, use them as a general guideline.  If you notice, most applications generally have around 100 mana, but you can actually give yourself more, so long as the cost to your spells make sense and aren't over powered:  http://www.forums.hypergamer.net/locations-places/%28lore%29%28book%29%28magicka%29-a-treatise-on-primitive-magicka-and-spellsmithing/msg137789/#new

Its fun to make fun of Lachance because makes it fun through his reactions.  Try not to bug him too much though.  Switch to Avolcano, our mentally retarded sloth player.

We used to have a list of out plugins, but after so much time running half of them either don't work, or don't work like they are supposed to.  I don't really see why you need a list of the plugins anyways, there is HeroChat, Factions, Gates, iConomy.... The stuff you see in-game all the time and use.

If you actually look through our threads concerning the new map, we have said multiple times that it will come around when this map breaks, and when the map is actually finished.  So far the city is broken into sections, the walls are done, the palace is being built, and the rivers and bridges cutting through the city are complete.  I don't know what % done it is but I am going to hazard a guess at around 15-20% complete?

I have already talked to you about BR, at LENGTH on the server.  Like, we discussed it all last night.  No matter how much you don't like it or how much you bring it up and complain about it, its not going away.

And last point, we really don't need an FAQ thread, a lot of stuff is -really- self explanatory.  Like the magic applications, do some reading and some critical thinking and you can easily come up with something.

But like Quin said, don't just bag on MLA, move to the retarded fury sloth AVol, or some other retarded players. He..hehehe....

After going through the seemingly endless amount of maps with this server I have started to realize that no matter what we do,
there is minimal RP and what RP we have is quite dry and tasteless for the most part. So after thinking it over, I am now going to create the suggestion book  to good and meaningful role-play.

So in order to understand how to role-play well, you must first understand what role-play actually is. Role-play is the act of taking on a a new persona (role); living, breathing, being this person. As you take on this other person, you then interact (play) with other people who have taken on another role. Now you might thinking "No shit Jagger, I know what the hell role-play is. GOD!" Well just let me finish, it's leading me up to suggestion 1. , which inevitably is:

1. Know Your Character - Know it inside and out. You should know their likes, their dislikes, their emotions, their history, etc.
You should really think about your character before you actually create it; don't just suddenly say "I feel like being a dwarf", put a retextured honeydew skin on, then run around screaming "diggy diggy hole".

No, it doesn't work that way. Try to put effort in your character, this is a personality that you are taking on, hopefully for quite a while. You should want to know how this character works. Even if the character is still developing through role-play (which is a hell of a lot cooler than an already worked out character), still try and have a base for their personality traits.

Now that we have a grasp on what Role-play is, we now have to look at what makes it thrive... Role-play, as I have said previously, mainly works by interacting with other characters. Online it is much more reliant on dialog than actions. The funny thing is that we all (hopefully) do this in our everyday live. Whether it's passing by somebody on the sidewalk, or going to the grocery store, we all speak with other people. Maybe not as much now that we have the internet and social networking, but it's still there... This leads me to the next part, which is:

2. Play Your Character - And I mean all the time. No more "/tell jagger Oh, you and I should totally RP sometime!" NO! FUCK THAT!!! That is the number one thing that pisses me off on this server. If you want to RP with someone, you go to that person and you just role-play, while still staying in-character the whole time. planned RP is dry RP, remember that. Now this is totally different from events. Events are another subject that im going to be talking about soon.

Ok... So we've work base of RP, the essentials. Now we must look at how to make it even better. Since role-play survives off of interactions, the most logical thing we must account for is player-flow. The more people that are on the server, the easily able you are to interact with each other. Meaning that the next suggestion is:

3. Have a good player flow - In a perfect server, I would prefer to have at least fifty people on it at one time. This would allow me to put 15-20 people into three average sized towns. With that we could have good RP within the towns, and (if everyone was to cooperate) good RP between the towns. No I know from experience that it really isn't up to us whether we have 50+ players or not. So to counter this, I have come up with a suggestion 3.5:

3.5. Keep you player close - Keep them as close as it dictates. I don't mean that we should have one small village for a 15+/- player flow. I just mean that is you shouldn't have two huge cities a 10 min walk IRL away from each other when there aren't enough players for that to be useful in RP. That is why I suggested the guild city and that is why it the guild city map is going to actually happen.

Now try not to do the exact opposite of this. Do not keep your entire player base under one faction. This is how Ermor worked ad it is also how it fell. People got sick and tired of being under Ermorian rule, so they rebelled. It's also why I'm worried about having a single player ruling. If we were to have a democracy, I would like to see that we have at least a guild legislature to go with it. Then we don't have one person deciding the fate of all the factions, we have the people from every faction involved.

Now, I don't exactly have much to back the next suggestion so I'm just going to write it.

4. Admins shouldn't be leaders - Now I meant this with all due respect for the admins, but what I've seen doesn't work. Admins already have a lot of technical shit they have to deal with, so they are rarely IC. Being a faction leader means that you also need to be in-character more than anyone else. Your entire faction depends on it. Also, I've seen that people tend to join the faction with an admin in it for the sake of having perks like someone who can give them world edited houses, free food that poofed out of nowhere, and my favorite; an admin to completely back you up in any situation!

God, that was a lot to get off my chest.... But I digress.

Now let's talk about events... Ah, events. They're something so special, and very important on this server. They're created to bring large amounts of people together so they can role-play, mainly with a goal to it. And if you participate, you are normally rewarded for it. Well... either rewarded or killed, but let's not focus on that. this leads to suggestion number five:

5. Have a GOOD event team - I have only seen one good event ever on this server, the one Chief created in Ermor. The only other one I've seen is the Bleeding Tide. I personally hate the bleeding Tide event, instead of bringing characters together it has only forced them further apart. It's also been dragged out way too long. Events should be short and fun: something you look back on long after you leave the server when you finally realized that real life is more important than video games.

Anyways, right now event member is nothing more than a title. I would like to see some of the remaining event members of the event team to get of their metaphorical asses and come up with an event every once in a while. I would love to see an event happen at least eery 1-2 months. They don't have to be super complicated or anything. We could in fact do something like a DnD campaign. Build a dungeon, have some sort of boss at the end, then have treasure that the group would split amongst themselves.

*sigh*

Well it seems that I've been going at this for about an hour and a half now, and its five 'o clock my time. I think I'm going to leave it at this and come back to it later. Sound Good?

This has been the Essence of RP Beta 1.0 (a.k.a: Epeataro's rant about how the server should work).

Changed every area to you wrote "rule" to: "guideline" or "suggestion".

Also, I don't lead the Viosk faction.  The only thing I control is the application thread to help screen out bad players, and the threads to elect the mayor who actually does run the town.  I don't world edit peoples houses.  Nor do I spawn people building materials or food, the materials collected in the Viosk storage house are either things people have collected and put inside, or items I have taken from the abandoned houses of the people who have left Viosk.  Maybe its the fact that Viosk is the only normal township close to spawn, not infected with the plague, that people join it?

1. I know the concept of utopian ideals and how they have failed in society. I really like to study soviet communism. But though they may sound extreme, but really aren't. If everyone wants to RP on here (and I know most do), then following these "rules" ,as I have emphasized that they are being used in a non-literal sense, should be possible.

2. I know you get in depth with your character a lot. I know that most of the people on the server do. I just had to stated for the sake of it needing to be stated.

Guys, this is just another rant I wrote while half-asleep. I just wrote to have some meaning and that people could learn from it.
I personally would like to see the server not totally based out of OOC chat, with people doing some planned RP every once in a while.

Jagger, these are not rules, these are suggestions/points for a guide you are putting forward.  Please change it from a rulebook, to your suggestions for roleplay, or your guidelines to good roleplay.  Rules would employ these are being put forward by the administration of the server.

I have nothing to do with the faction other than that I run the library next door.  Why don't people flock to Demon or Ange's factions?  Oh wait, Demon is in a forest in the middle of nowhere and Ange has a giant waterfall of lava closing off his faction, that and CradleRock is infected with the plague.  So I really disagree that it is my presence that draws people to the faction as I have contested your claims.

Also, Soviet "Communism" is known as Stalinism, and is a totalitarian, authoritarian ideology that is nearly the opposite of a Marx Communist society, actual Communism, or what people would call a utopian society.  The Soviet Union was not a utopia, nor was it actually Communist.

No one has done anything similar to this because its not required.  Would you please actually write what I ask you to, like the Grey Elf lore (which I have been waiting a week for)?  Rather than wasting your time on this when I could easily just copy/paste the SRP/FRP roleplay guide with a few changes made to it.

I guess you don't understand what I am saying.  I am saying we aren't making magic simple because we don't want simple people using magic.  If you don't understand the magic thread, then you shouldn't get magic, its simple.

When I was talking about soviet communism, I did not mean Marxism, Leninism, or Stalinism in particular. I meant a country trying to put place an Utopian ideal and it ultimately failing. I guess I should have just said communism in general. But that's not important.

I am absolutely baffled that you haven't caught on to this, but I never meant anything about Voisk. I was talking about the Druichi Commune. I have a lot of bad memories based around that time period of the server. It was the first time I truly realized what kind of person you are; maybe not as you act in real life, but at least how you act on the internet. Taking control of the server through the people's apathy really pissed me off. That is why I have acted this way from that point on. I wasn't going to let myself be sucked into that kinda thing. And in doing that, it caused me to do certain actions which have led you to rather not have me here anymore. Like I have said, I respect you as an admin. But it doesn't mean I respect you as a person.

As for that dumb Grey Elf lore, I could really care less about it anymore. The elf race used to be something special to me. But not anymore. It's just another part of your lore index. Get someone else to right it; won't affect me in any way.

In fact, I really don't care about much when it comes to this server. I think I'm just going to hang around the forums for a while until the next map comes around, maybe it worth RPing then. I know it'll be a while but oh well....

And I guess you don't understand that just because I don't personally like to read things over, doesn't mean I don't understand the importance of a noob-filter.
