I have made several of these threads in the past, i just want to see what you guys want and think about an additional server. We cut back our servers because of gmod 13 and SRP only retains players interested in stalker roleplay.
I am fully aware that SRP should remain our top priority and we are generally not in a position for another server right now if it just recycles our current or former playerbase but we need to keep our options open and look at getting a fresh, new playerbase. I should also note a second server will further development as a whole on script, so both servers do benefit.
The metro2033 forums bellow are a placeholder as we are looking into it, but i would rather you guys had a say too.
List of possible Roleplay types:
Metro2033:
Possible Concept: Does this really need any? It's stalker underground with more going on and citzen rp.
Zombie Roleplay:
Possible Concept: Lone survival with playermade factions. No military bullshit.
Warhammer 40k
Possible Concept: SSTRP Like, imperial guard, running around the galaxy getting killed.
Possible COncept: HL2RP Like, imperial guard watching over citizens, rebels\heretics as the rebels. With mutants
and tyranids and other shit messing up the planets(s)
Fallout RP
Possible Concept: Same as before i guess.
Star Wars RP Possible Concept: Mixture of planets over several servers, think hl2rp and mass effect rp.
Possible Concepts: Jedi Academy?> No idea, game was good, the games have rp servers already.
List of bad roleplay types:
Curssaria - No one is interested in medieval roleplay.

Pretty much that, imo. I'd like to see a Zombie Roleplay that focused more on the survival aspect. Hanging out with friends or going solo, whatever you really enjoy is what you should be doing. In a world where survival is the last thing you really have, people could focus on creating groups of supportive towns or bandit hideouts. With the popularity of The Walking Dead as well, a serious Zombie roleplay server could potentially have a hold in the Garry's Mod Roleplay community (What's left of it.)

My vote stands with Metro 2033
I would like to see a zombie roleplay more so than metro because metro2033rp seems too restrictive and similar to Stalkerrp. Also I think that a zombie roleplay server has many possibilities and if done well would be sucessfull because we can make our own zombie canon/story so there's not nearly as many penalties like you would see in metro rp.
Warhammer would be cool. Just as long as not everything is human related.
Zombie has never worked for RP in my experiences.
metro would be sweet if it could be done right, but i think it is too close to stalker and therefore would split the crowd already in stalker.
I think i have to say zombie rp, aslong as i can scavage and not just buying everything :P
What about a space kinda theme like Battlestar Galactica?
Think about it, guys. We're using a fork of Vein, which means we can easily use complex features of Vein with Zombie RP.

- Slow zombies - no fast zombie bullshit, no special/boss zombies, just the reanimated dead. These are Romero zombies. They break down doors over timespans of a week. They can be set on fire and keep shambling towards you.
- Fully-featured zombie AI.
- AI director: Spawns hordes if underneath a cap (for example, 30 zombies on the map at one time), as well as if someone yells/shoots a gun/etc., using the gm_navigation module.
- There will be five guns (pistol, revolver, shotgun, hunting rifle, military rifle), and around 10-20 melee weapons.
- Weapon system is barebones: no need for clutter. No ironsights, no superhuge smoke particles, no ricochet, etc. Simple, clean and lagless, most importantly.
- Using a weapon makes you unable to move, similar to how Project Zomboid does it. This makes melee fighting a last resort - missing could be fatal.
- Death is final. Once a character dies and you go back to the character selection, you can still play that character, you'll just be laying on the ground, or shambling around thanks to zombie AI. No appeals, just like a realistic zombie apocalypse. Don't pick fights you can't win.
- There are 3 characters allowed at one time by default; this can be changed by the server owner.
- There are motives, such as sleep, hunger, exertion, etc.
- Motives are saved and decay with time spent ingame. They won't kill you, just make you slower and distort your view and increase your insanity level.
- Health isn't represented from 1-100; instead, you'll see Shot, Bitten, Scratched etc. with motives.
- Small damage system - bandages, splints, etc. all have function
- Insanity system: Think http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FpRq3e9yohE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FpRq3e9yohE)
- You don't want to go insane
- Items have a much larger influence than other roleplay gamemodes. For example, food to decrease hunger etc.
- Crafting system that supports up to 4 items.
- Each item you carry slows you down.
- Items and melee weapons are easy to find. Firearms and firearm ammo are hard to find.
- Easy to create new items for server owners.
- Can trade items directly with other players, or place them in containers.
- Items have no physical presence. They're not found on the ground as with other roleplay gamemodes, but rather inside props. The reason for this is to decrease lag, missing items, and item duplication.
- Map editor for use by admins.
- Used to place props, item containers, zombie hotspots, zombie avoidance areas etc.
- Map contents are saved. Thanks to Gmod 13, you can have up to 32,000 props in one map, with no RSO errors!
- Item containers contain relevant items, as specified in the map editor: for example, a bedroom dresser won't contain a carton of milk.
- Scripted events (dewip). Think a helicopter passes overhead with supplies, or the Army rolls by for a cleanup op.
- Multiple official maps provided, tailored for different playerbase sizes and different playstyles:
- rp_v_sacrifice: Port of L4D's The Sacrifice. Good for small servers and testing.
- rp_v_terminal: Port of the Airport level from L4D's Dead Air. Good for small servers. WIP.
- rp_v_riverside: Port of the town from L4D's No Mercy. Good for medium-large servers. WIP.
- rp_v_rooftops: Port of two of L4D's Dead Air campaign maps. Good for large servers. WIP.
- More to come! If you request a non-official map get support, I'll probably add gamemode support for it. Post in the thread!
- Fully featured administrative commands.
- As streamlined as possible to get undesireables out.
- Music system. Plays music at opportune times. Death means sad music, life means.. sad music, zombies around means action music.
- NPCs (wip) - something like bots. Each has their own personality and may either shoot you on sight (after a warning!), tag along, or give you items. More players on reduce the amount of NPCs on.
- If you are bitten (or got a bad scratch) you are infected.
- Works in the same vein as motives; you die after a certain amount of time ingame.
- All dead players become zombies - like I said, this is slow zombie, Romero lore, so all players will become a zombie assuming their head's intact.
Look at all those features we have by simply choosing Zombie RP. This is all inside our script right now. Btw, we can edit anything if people don't like it.
Zombie roleplay it is.
metro rp even with the cool shit zombie rp might have
MetroRP appeals more to me, but if something dynamic and unique was pulled from a Zombie script like the above feature list, my vote would definitely go to the ZombieRP server.

My vote is going to have to be for zombie RP. This will give the players a sort of walking dead experience and in my opinion, will be a very enjoyable form of RP.

Zombie Rp sounds fun, and as much as I would like a WH40k rp server i feel like it wouldn't last too long
There's a brilliant metro map and lets be honest the STALKER/Metro roleplay is the most effective at keeping a balanced open server.

Well I think the best idea is zombie rp. Then again some people have Day-Z for that. I can't run arma though so I would love it and probably play daily :). SRP won't hold my attention anymore sadly.
I think my runner up is almost equal i aspect of which idea I likle better. My second best idea is Star Wars RP. Yet again I have eve online for that...

Metro RP is most appealing to me, but Zombie RP IF DONE RIGHT. . Would be MOST excellent. It doesn't require many people on all the time, and one admin can pretty much run the whole server, low maintenance is nice. Why not take two post apocalyptic, and have one not in Russia.
WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THE IDEA OF METRO:
-It's Metro, c'mon.
-It adds a much darker environment and more politics
-It has CITIZENS! Now you might be thinking "Whoopty-fuck! Someone who doesn't have gear or weapons!" AND SOMETIMES YES THAT'S THE CASE. But it can be /fun/! It's like when you have to choose between a bunch of different factions that want to murder each other and you choose the option that says "I'd rather just passive and RP being a destitute, poor Russian under the Reds." OKAY NOW THAT MIGHT NOT SOUND APPEALING BUT IT OPENS A NEW WINDOW RIGHT?
IF WE WERE TO PICK METRO I'D LIKE TO SEE:
-A canon that was determined by the players in the long run. Start off with basic guidelines, like any other faction should be though. So pretty much what I'm saying is that we all will get to decide how the world's canon goes instead of an admin going. "No that's dumb, you can't do that." It should be your choice to go in whatever which direction you want to, if you keep common sense in mind.
-Don't make it super strict anymore, it scares people away, man.
-Gear shouldn't be given out all willy-nilly. You're in the metro, man!
-Some people actually find an interest in citizen RP! That would add onto things but it's just wishful thinking. I'd assume most people would just wanna be in a faction and shoot other people in the face and be badass surface dwellers. BUT I COULD BE COMPLETELY WRONG AND I'D LOVE THAT.
WHAT I DON'T LIKE ABOUT THE IDEA:
-Things becoming stagnant because of lack of events or activity
-It's in Russia. . Again! I mean I love Russia/Ukraine as much as the next guy, but a little change in scenery please?
-It's hard to add diverse conflict! (I.E: Mutants/Stalkers/Nazis/Reds/bandits/rangers; they all have set boundaries and have their lines cookie cut for the most part. Whereas in a zombie RP, there'd be more or less no factions; and everything would be a gray zone. This would cause people to think about what their doing and how they're gonna do it so it doesn't bite them in the ass later [gasp, thinking!]).
Now moving on!
AS FOR ZOMBIES WHAT I'D LIKE TO SEE/WHY I'M EXCITED ABOUT IT IF IT WERE CHOSEN:
-Zombies, okay they're kinda cool. . A little overused these days but ZOMBIES.
-Survival in groups is a really cool thing to do, like seriously, it's a really fun thing!
-Diverse RP! You can literally be whatever you want within physical and logical limits in a world where there are no rules anymore. People can help, be crazy, liars, psychopaths, neutral scavengers. . You name it, and you can probably do it if it makes sense!
-Everything is gray, nothing is right or wrong in a world with no more rules. Sounds pretty cool huh? I thought so too! Make your own life for you and make sure what's most important to you stays in one piece!
-Fear RP! THIIISSS. If you get bit, you're a zombie! You don't want to be a zombie! Fear or some sort of emotion resembling fear RP! That'd be fun!
OKAY AND WHAT I REALLY REALLY WANNA SEE
-Work. Working. Working your way to the top. What do I mean? WELL I'll tell you! Want to see something done? Work for it! Want to make a safe haven town? Scavenge and make tiny fortifications, start off small. . And then eventually make a safe haven for you and your people! Or something like that, you get what I mean I hope!
-Diverse canon! The ONLY CANON THIS PLACE WOULD HAVE IS "Zombies" BAM. You don't get much more broad than that, man.
-You don't have to start off right in the apocalypse. WHAT I MEAN IS THAT in the great opening of the server, we could have it maybe. . . MAYBE we could have an event where everyone who has their character can maybe witness the actual undoing of civilization? I mean it might be cool right? I mean it's just an idea but THAT SOUNDS REALLY COOL TO ME.
I forgot what else I was going to say and this is a wall of text already.
What I wouldn't wanna see tho:
-Super elite commando soldiers everywhere.
-Badass doesn't afraid of anythingses

Zombiess! Just because of the pure awesomeness of it, and I feel we would see a large range of characters because I would expect the life expectancy of most characters to only be a few weeks tops.
Problem with having the option of being a citizen with nothing just for passive is everyone will be a citizen with nothing while high ranking HGNer's or veterans will be all the roles with items etc, it'll be like every hl2 rp server, 20 citizens 2 civil protection.
District 9 RP? Just a suggestion, never done before.
I feel it would be a bit like HL2:RP but choosing weather to be the Prawns or human citizen. The only real canon faction would be the MNU. Could have an interesting conflict between the two sides. Could also have the bandits/ militia in with the Prawns. Just an idea :L
Since the list seems to have updated since I was last here, I will say I would like to see a star wars server but NO JEDI. No force using at all. People don't seem to realize this but in actual star wars cannon, seeing Jedi was not supposed to be a common thing unless it was old republic.
I would love to see a Warhammer RP, doing the SSTrp approach as IG would be really cool, but my preference would probably be something along the lines of the Dark Heresy Pen and Paper RPG.
District 9 would be neat but I have no idea how that would work, everyone would want to be aliens with alien guns.
And again I have never seen a zombie RP that worked, everyone always ran around shooting things and never bothering to RP.
I like the idea of a Metro RP but I think it would be unwise for the community at this time.
I feel like if we have dedicated staff to a zombie RP server, there wouldn't be a problem with keeping things in check. There also wouldn't be a need to minge around and "LOLSHOOT" things and run around all over the place. I suppose it's wishful thinking to say that I could imagine a lot of RP and passive. . I CAN DREAM DAMNIT

I'd be very interested in WH40k, one of my favorite universes ever. I did a VERY small WH40k server RP with Turkey and Emperor Bobby and it was extremely fun while keeping canon and being mostly serious. The only downside is that it would be heavily admin (SST style) reliant and passive could be complex, as I've never seen it done before. If we had some guides/expectations and stuff I would more than happily play on it. There's also plenty of content available for it.
Nothing really interests me besides that, Zombie RP feels too limiting in my opinion. I don't like survival elements being forced into my RP, I'd rather dictate it myself since I consider myself to be responsible and know how to RP those elements properly.

you're making an unfair conclusion based on a different experience unrelated to the current situation.
here's the thing: we aren't doing private roleplaying servers. if the playerbase is small, then it's easy to get along with and therefore there's not a lot of problems that arise with public ones.
i can assure you that a public wh40k will disappoint compared to a private one.

Each RP is unique in their own way, I don't see a problem with Zombie RP in the least, nor do I with whatever the hell someone else wants to do. It's just weird to me that people are so hasty to compare things to each other due to one or two similarities. It might be difficult but let's try to look at each RP as it's own thing, and not give it a bad rep before even trying it! Just my opinion tho.

Humans/survivors/citizens are there for background noise. As most players would not to want to focus on not being a citizen/survivor. Gmod players generally love suits of armor and guns.

[spoiler]That, which is why it baffles me that zombie RP is always so popular every time this vote comes up. I've never seen a zombie server not be absolute shit for 95% of the players. The admin clique running the [insert military organization here that is always in these kind of RPs] has fun spawning zombies and "saving the day" over and over while the peasants sit around and do nothing until their application to join the cool kids club is accepted so they can have a gun too. It's boring and stupid. There's no sense of danger as a survivor because if you die, what do you care? You have nothing, given how few and far between most item spawns are you very likely will never have anything that you care about losing in your inventory and since items are the only thing people care about in Gmod there's no fear or anything. Civilians are just...there, doing nothing. Maybe they passive a bit saying "Gosh it sure does suck there's zombies everywhere" but that gets old really quick.
Zombies is a shit idea, I don't know why HGN gravitates to it and post apoc every single time this topic comes up (and I've seen at least 10 of these votes in the years I've been here). WH40k and SW are vastly more interesting ideas because they don't require that much connection to the setting-in-the server to be interesting. In zombies if you're a citizen doing nothing it's boring and no amount of lore or backstory is going to fix that. Star Wars or WH40k (and also other, more "open" post apoc settings like STALKER and Fallout) allow a player to do his/her own thing more readily. It's easier to create an interesting backstory when space travel and aliens are involved than it is to go "You're in [area of US]. There's zombies. You are a normal person." Given how bad most servers are at creating atmosphere it doesn't allow much in the way of interesting characters. I'm a college student in real life. It's not that interesting. Being a college student in a poorly-done zombie apocalypse server still isn't that interesting (replace "college student" with any other profession someone would reasonably be in such a scenario, it's still not that cool). Shooting braindead NPCs as a soldier is only slightly more interesting but you'd be better off playing Left 4 Dead or Killing Floor because you're not going to see much character development.
Star Wars and WH40k (and Fallout to a much lesser extent) have vastly more interesting universes and a lot less of a dependence on gear to make things interesting (or rather in theory it does. Given the average GModer's inability to RP beyond "get gear, hunt newbies" it probably doesn't matter that much what setting is chosen because as Crussaria showed us, players don't have the attention span to roleplay if they can't rollplay). Zombies is only interesting when you have gear because it's only when you have something to lose that there is the sense of tension and fear that there should be constantly in that environment.
EDIT: Furthermore STALKER is at like 0/45 24/7 so you all clearly don't even like Post Apoc that much. Why is Zombies still getting the majority of the vote?[/spoiler]
Okay, i guess we will try out Zombie RP and see how it goes.
