Kalashnikov have unveiled the latest incarnation of their iconic assault rifle, the AK-47. The company says new generation firearm called the AK-12 combines reliability with precision, and can be used with one hand.
The factory which developed the new rifle decided to stick with the classic layout of the AK-47, even though it is a completely new weapon. The Kalashnikov makers claim its has better range, increased fire dispersion, better ergonomics, usability and a potential for configuration changes.
The new weapon is as reliable as the AK-74, the Izmash factory CEO Maksim Kuzyuk says, but the dynamic characteristics differ significantly. It considerably increases the accuracy of shooting. The rifle is capable of firing in three modes: single shot, three shots and automatic fire mode. Also, AK-12 is capable of using magazines of various types and capacity.
The basic feature of the new rifle is its modularity. It will serve as a basic platform for designing of over 20 modifications of small-arms weapons of various purpose and calibre. AK-12’s composition allows operating it single-handedly, and can be converted for left or right handed use. The rifle can accommodate night vision and Holo-sights, target indicator, or a light grenade launcher.
The AK-12 is undergoing firing tests in extreme conditions which should be completed by the end of the year. The Russian Ministry of Interior has already agreed to test the AK-12 in its special police units after official certification of the weapon.

That looks like an awsome weapon :D maybe it can be intergrated into the STALKER rp via black market?
Though i don't know why they try and make it look really good by getting a unreliable m16 from vietnam which were shit and freezing it? It was shit when it was fired normally no wonder it jammed when it was cold.
This gun i hope will be in STALKER 2 :)

Not really. They just have shitty military organisation and factories which produce T-62's and UAZ's to these days.

Why two selectors? Never understood why anyone would make a selector for safe/fire and then one for the firing modes. At least you can use your thumb to operate this one instead of having to take your hand off the grip.
Still uses the old paddle style mag release though. Would have been nice to see something that could be operated with a finger on the shooting hand.

The 100-series AKs were designed for export. While they are modernized variants of the AK 74 and AKM they aren't really new designs. Rather they are either modernized AK74s (plastic furniture and scope rails as standard with longer stock lengths for the export market since the average Russian is shorter than many of the countries that buy AKs), modernized AKMs (7.62, plastic furniture and the other stuff I just mentioned) or chambered in 5.56 to appeal to NATO countries. This is a new rifle design so they chose a new system of numbering...I think.

Not really a successor, Ruskies will still use their old T-62 tanks and AK74M's.
