I have always been fascinated by it even before I heard about or played STALKER. It is so interesting since nothing on the scale of Chernobyl has happened before.

Heres some of the most important things about Chernobyl
* Destroyed in 26th April 1986
*Area around the reactor is cordoned off in a 30KM exclusion zone
*Pripyat was evacuated 2 days after the actual incident
*The surrounding exclusion zone is uninhabitable for up to 100+ years (Maybe)
