Title: Hardmode
Post by: Crow793 on 07-02-2012
Server is offline. Doesn't make me excited, but I suppose it's progress. I'm eager to play again.

On a side note, is there a thread for discussing the world going into Hardmode? Or was a final decision already made? Or...

I don't think we really made the decision yet. But since we always have new people coming on to the server, it'd be hard to find a truly safe place for the new people. even unhallowed/uncorrupted ground will have hard enemies.

In my opinion there should not be hard mode because:

1) It allows new people to the server to actually survive while they are inexperienced and ill-equipped

2) It allows us to manage who gets the gear that they deserve, if everyone had the potential to get hallowed it would immediately become worthless. With the current system we can clearly monitor and make sure that items and roles retain their worth

Good Point.

But what about the more experienced players seeking a thrill?

I guess we can do a wilderness server like it was suggested a long time back.
but we'll talk about it later.

Wilderness/Hardcore server would be pretty fun but I think only share the IP/password with grizzled ancients in the community

i am all for the wilderness idea it worked well with actual one because if you have to work hard to get to it people will not abuse the items as much.

I just crave a set of angel wings. Many RP possibilities for somebody who can fly.

I've been playing on my friend's more local server and what we did for our 20 players is we had 2 servers. One was known as the "Badlands", which for us was the first server we had and was full of now broken buildings and corruption. Then we had fled to a knew land, which we created large crowded cities and mines and such known as the "Iron Citadel". Only people of great importance or high security levels could go to the other land. Due to the fact that if corrupted they could bring an apocalypse on to the city.

So simply said we hire or allow higher tiered members or more entrusted players to go over to this other server and collect roleplay information and along the way they would be able to tier up their gear. Though we also made a rule that it was illegal to trade or give tiers of armor from there to unauthorized members. We also had a tier grade of authorization, which would up someones roleplay grade and armor grade. We had...

Anti-Flood = Cobalt

Flood Bane = Mythril

Warchief = Hallow

Etc...

Now for us those classes were very hard to get. Also are realm is modern unlike the Caphori realm, which is pre-industrial. So you could do something of that type.
