Server is griefed. Big, this time. The spawn has been covered in Adamantite and is still protected, so there's no way of getting out. And even my character K'Avar's bed is missing, so it's nerfed big time. However all i could see were the ruins of the castle.
Just went on to see what's happened, here's a screenshot of a portion of the wreck:

Seriously, is there no logging system Terraria can get? A simple who spawns what would be perfect
I'm going to be on the server all day now, keeping an eye. I'll be having someone be on when i'm asleep too.
We managed to claw out of the adamantite thanks to Thy. The damage is actually not severe, but it's server-wide.
Still means we've got an idiot on the loose. If i could, i'd plug up my other Pc, and leave terraria on Caphori with fraps or something.
Like a security camera.
Most of the damage is on the left side, obviously there's no player-made structures on the right side of the map. Castle town took the biggest damage, but we can definitely repair this all.

Goddammit, and I'm in no position to help this time around. Today and tomorrow I'm at my dad's- sorry guys.
that one week probationary period is starting to sound better and better, isn't it?
Edit, just banned a guy called denis.
In retrospect, if someone tries to log in and isn't on the whitelist/contacted an admin for a new character...
I'm Banning them Immediately. By doing so, I'm hoping that we can cut down on random people trying to get into the server.
The probationary period, they could still wait and RP and such and then grief the server after.

Maybe if they actually roleplayed, they wouldn't feel like griefing the server after the probationary period, in retrospect the idea is good on paper, but it really depends on the person we're dealing with. Usually they're just people who mindlessly grief when they can. Unocassionally we do have some covert people that lurk for a while before striking. I think you guys should go with Almasy's idea on the ban-on-sight.
Yeah, and mostly the people that have griefed us were banjumping, and griefing because they were pissed. This griefer, we don't know who it is. But I think right now the importance is in finding a way to PREVENT griefing, not catching them. We need to stop it before it happens.
Why does everyone hate us D:

Prevent, not catch. For example, turning antibuild on while everyone's asleep.
I PMed that idea to the mods earlier. But regardless, we don't have enough mods/the current mods are not active enough.

Didn't PM it to me.
Only to James, ThY, and Steven.

I actually meant modifications (Like antibuild, that you quoted), not moderators.

Oh. Derp. Then, yes, we should start doing that.
Now, why do we allow people to register if they're just going to ban jump?
I know. The register system just makes people invincible to password changes.

Maybe see if there is a way to wipe all regular accounts when the pass is changed.
Call me an idiot, but maybe the issue is that our steam group is public. If someone posts the password to it, can everyone who has steam see it?

We have a steam group?
We post the password in our steam group?
Kami, I believe the group we post is the one on here, but yeah, it's public too, I think.
I honestly think the issue IS the registering. I honest to god do not know the current password, and have just used my /register password to log in. I really think we need to either get rid of /register and set up a whitelist. Or go back to the old system.

Get rid of Register, Obviously.
Those who actually can be allowed to have a login, are trusted players.
The register is cool and all, but the only way to manage it is if you delete people's registrations when you change the password. In that case there would be no point to registering anyway.
It's a lot of issues. Registering, Shortage of active mods, too much leniency with accepting new players due to a faulty application... But the biggest problem is nothing has been done to change these issues and we continue to be griefed. I don't know if it's a problem with the mods lack of action, or just griefers being able to bypass changes. But this is just what I've been observing.
I have a great number of friends (More then 5) that troll for a living when not at a job. If someone is really going out of their way to troll a server no application is going to stop them. Of course a really obnoxious application will of course make smaller trolls veer away, but it will also make potential players not to want to play on the server because it may be more work then they would want to do. Of course large trolls would still attack the server and dedicated roleplayers would still go through a long application. You may be thinking why we don't want these less dedicated roleplayers, but when you think of it all of us dedicated roleplayers or just good roleplayers come out of these type of people. Whenever one of us leave we usually have 1 out of 5 applicaters that fill their spot, but with a long application a lot of those people may leave and instead of 1 out of 5 you may get more of a .20 out of 1. This is not exact I'm just going off of what I've seen so far. I'm sure a load of this is incorrect, so don't be do harsh on me.

I'm going to start another thread, on suggestions for a new application.
We could do some fixes to the map, but we'll need INVEdit and the exact amount of items we'll require to fix.
Although alot may disagree to this because of this word ^ right there.
This is not worth a complete reaul of the application system, rather the admin activity.
We need to abolish the /register system, and do a whitelist system. Is that possible for terraria?

we used to have a whitelist system. It worked, and we barely got messed with all of last year.
Why don't we use, and also look into installing a tracker that makes a list of people who log in, and when, that way we do know who might grief if names matter?

well. we have a log of activity, but i personally have no way of reading it.
I've suggested that someone leave a Player on during the night as a sentinel.
and have them record the activity with a fraps camera.
That's a bit of a roundabout way of doing it, plus the cost on your internet of leaving terraria open in multiplayer. I think we should find some way of accessing this log of player activity.

Steven will need to get his shit together with stuff like this.
I leave for a week and a half... Alright. I'm back. :P I'll be on as much as you need me too... And reminder to my fellow mods, I've got six days as of this post to prove myself... I suppose the only analogy I could use for this would be... I'm down shit creek without a paddle.
Anyways, I'll be on whenever you need me too, just tell me when. Got all my issues resolved.
Issue is likely BOTH of those things. Register should be removed and the password shouldn't be given out anywhere but on HGN.
Also, we need mods to be active on the server, which I know is hard since most of you guys have more important things, jobs, IRL issues and such. Can we also take off build guard and start rebuilding the server? Server being dead longer than it needs to isn't good.
I've actually had time to come on recently, but I haven't because before I make anything I'd rather this whole griefer issue to be solved. Either get rid of /register and go back to whitelist or whatever you need to do. Most people seem to agree with going back to whitelist, so why don't we just do that.
