Title: What music do you want to see ingame?
Post by: Silver Knight on 29-03-2011
What music do you want to see ingame? The new patch is coming soon and i want to add some music. But only the best. Suggest anything which fits into the fallout theme. So things from bioshock would also fit in too.

I could just go about listing Galaxy News Radio songs or Radio New Vegas songs, but I wont. Instead, I'll list the 2 or 3 songs that I extremely like.

New Vegas Radio - Ain't that a kick in the Head by Dean Martin (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-p5B1WxOqs#)
Black Mountain Radio - Big Iron by Marty Robbins (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azI-nuFSUYE#)
Fallout 3 Soundtrack - Maybe (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xorWgC8vf3I#ws)

This is actually oddly convinient. I had an interesting idea today.

What if we set up an online radio station? I've known people to run internet radio stations before--but I also know there's a mod in Gmod Toybox that allows you to listen to particular channels. Or so I think that's what it does.

Would it be possible to make an in-game radio that links to such an online channel--then someone makess a server for the channel playing all pre-war music? Shit, I got a voice for radio. :P Though I don't have the attention span to set up Winamp again to do it myself.

But the radios in the wasteland, rather than play set media, could play these streamed tracks. My only worry is if, bandwidth-wise, it'd be feasable.

Butcher Pete.

Also, should we stick to songs made before the great war? Like only songs made in 1950s?

Or songs made to sound like classic music of that era?

Or just any song can be suggested?

I always felt it was closer to the 40s, a time of swing and rock n' roll - rock less like CCR, and more like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78e-QaA5BBo#). Maybe as far as the early fifties, but mostly focused on the morality after World War II, that wonderful, swinging time. It 'locked in' around that time after World War II.

Actually, I disagree; CCR does not fit the tone of Fallout, as an example. It is far more reminiscent of the Vietnam War.

Remember, songs and cultural staples become more popular after they are released, hence the frequency of 30s, 40s, and 50s culture in Fallout.

I mean the Vietnam war had to of happen in Fallout time line and why were only songs for the 40s,30s saved there would be atleast be some form of Rock music
Title: Re: What music do you want to see ingame?
Post by: Khorn on 30-03-2011
Not really, the world stopped evolving in about the 40s and 50s era. Rock may have started, but it be rare. Almost completely unheard of.

Most citizens before the war would never listen to it because people hated change and would call it Communist music or something.

Music should be rare as is, so you need to find music that existed during and before the 50s in large quantities.

And Vietnam War never happened.

STILL BEING STUBBORN HERE.
Now seeing in Fallout,Fallout 2,NV you can see MANY MANY weapons developed and made in the  60,70s,80s.
Examples are the Desert Eagle .44,H&K G11,FN P90,FN FAL. Now the Service rifle and assault carbine bring to the table that counter culture DID HAPPEN due to the US wanting a more reliable rifle in Vietnam.
Soo 50s and 60s rock is present in the universe

50's yes. 60's not so much.

Remember how the Fallout world is. The 50's style culture was basically frozen in time for the rest of the United States' existence. The rest of technology basically proceeded unhindered--even going above and beyond.

If the technology proceeded unhindered, then why in the hell there are no laptops, only 60' like terminals ?
Your argument is invalid. Rather than on electronics, the technology was focused on nuclear technology.

Technology progressed down a different route.

Whereas we compressed from vacuum tubes down into capacitors, transistors etc. the ages of fallout unlocked the secrets of eternal energy, bulky circuits etc.

Obviously, none of this applies to ballistic stuff, as we see AK-47s, Deagles and the like in New Vegas, as well as a FEW FEW things in Fallout 2

I'm going to OBVIOUSLY argue things like Elvis were in the game.
Alongside this I'm going to say the cut-off date is Disco aka the 50s.
Anything beyond that is irrational; Should the Fallout timeline generated more leisure material (TV, Radio etc.) it would've never developed flat screens nor would music have evolved at all, especially when embroiled in a war.

To say "ZOMG M16 = VIETNAM MUST HAVE HAPPENED!11!!one!" is invalid. More than likely it was a choice by the devs to connect the player with something identifiable as US military.
