Title: Serious Question.
Post by: meetdadoom on 21-04-2011
Do American Comics count as anime? I have seen in many places comics like marvel and DC being grouped with manga. I am not a comic nerd but damn did I read a bunch when I was young.

See; Blackstar's Scott Pilgrim obsession and other things that think they're manga.
If it makes you feel better, I regularly buy Green Lantern comics.

The Scott Pilgrim series is Canadian, just saying.

That's why it's placed in the mysterious land of Toronto, Canada.

Yeah, anime is, basically, animated manga, hence the name.  Manga takes the form of books and pictures, anime is TV and movies.

Then there is the deference between Western comics and Japanese manga, which is quite obvious if you have read some of both.

I don't suppose that manga is exclusively made in Japan, there is probably someone in the west who makes manga. But in general, no, stuff like Marvel and DC are comics. Although it seems to me there are comics, and graphic novels that resemble manga, but have a different undertones to them.

On a side note: Marvel trumps DC by a long shot, go Stan Lee!
