Last night i was considering making another delay map (Redemption isn't at it's best, and Chernobyl won't be edited anymore) , to help fill in the time difference between Chernobyl and The Zone. Even thought i don't play srp much, i can see that Chernobyl is pretty unfit for roleplay, due to lack of bases and features. It's a fucking sexy map and well made, but it lacks in providing suitable locations for players to use, and what places there are (Yantar, Hunters Lodge etc) are never used.

Even thought im already pretty busy with college and other projects, this is something i want to do, this may be done or this may never be finished, but i at least want to cook something up, if not just for an idea. This is aimed at being a somewhat small project, so do not expect too much of it.

So, as for a delay map, it would be something of small scale, it's a delay map after all, and is only meant to provide extra gameplay and an extra map for players to play on (Switch-aroo) between that and Chernobyl to keep it fresh.

So, that out the way, ill just list several idea's for this map.

The map will consist of being open, like Chernobyl, but will concentrate on less flat land and a more hazardous enviroment. There will be anoms which will auto spawn too, to help maintain this, just like Redemption.

Features Completed:
Outpost (The one in cordon before the teleport, can be used by any faction, but mostly military will want to take it, it's one of several ways into another part of the map, contains one main building, 2 floors, one by ladder and the other is a simple walk in, im thinking of putting down a tent like part too outside)
Barns (Two twin barns, like he ones in cordon, suitable for faction)
Compound (The same one from redemption, the ramp part is now a underground bunker place)
Gas Station (A look alike from COP, it contains the front lobby room, backrooms, a fenced off section with a small maitinence building in the enclosed area)

TODO:

Bases:
Raidenators Bandit base (It's a suitable base for anyone).
Warehouses (My Redemption base in Section 3, ill port that over into the map).
Village (Rural rundown village).
Small Industrial place (Kinda like wild territory, but on a much smaller scale).
Caved in Vehicle tunnel, with several vehicles, and a room on the side, a good base for either monsters or a small group of stalkers.
Two Barns, the ones that were used in clearsky as a base for stalkers.

Underground Places:
A Underground (Somewhat medium sized, consiting of various tunnels).

Unique Features:
Small water Radiated area (Like in Dark Territory) with that and a bridge with anoms, the only way across to the other part of the map.

Sounds good I guess, as long as all the space is filled.
Chernobyl is a good map. it's made well but it seriously needs more buildings and features like you said. And most of the time it's just plain flat terrain.

I agree with dug there, My loner group struggled to find a place to "live"

Cool ideas, may I throw in a few of my own?
-A day and night switch feature for admins to use, the current night screen darkening effect isn't the best night simulator.
-A lab area, a big one, like in Redemption to use for quests and stuff.
-Pripyat Underground, like in CoP.
-Swamps with boat structures to freely use as bases and stuff, like in CoP. (Not the props, actual buildings that you can walk into and stuff)
I might add more later, but I doubt you will even read this.

Not possible to look good in lua/hammer, there's nothing you can use in source to accomplish it.

Finished porting the Compound from Redemption, and got a fair bit of terrain done, including the cordon like bridge over tunnel thing.

Looks good.

Well technically this is my first  Stalker map from scratch, since i took redemption over after Hostel gave up on it to work on another SRP map. This is just another delay map until Hostels big project.

Alpha 0.4 Barn update (Ill post some of outpost tomorrow)

Im still looking for more feedback from you guys! Im not sure if i should furnish the barns at all, or apply the broken walls onto the sides like in cordon.

Note: Im probably on alpha 0.7 now, so a few of these are abit more optimised, such as the bricks in the wall look better.

That requires more resources, which is a total waste, no one cares if you can see the sides of the map.

So far it's got a base, roads, outpost and barns as well as a tunnel, im very creative with what i can fill spaces with, so you don't need to worry about that!

Redemption did has props that faded at a distance, and no draw'd textures, it was just flawed by design, and the spawn place was rather foolish, since you rendered the whole of section two when you spawned.

I plan on working on it throughout this coming week, i have a week off college, so potentially, i can get it up to speed, to be version 1.0 alpha or something, and put it on the server, but no promises, when i get stuck in, i work hard and fast, but we will have to see how things go.

Read whilst looking at your display picture.

You should get some ingame references for heights and general dimensions form STALKER if your remaking anything. srp_chernobyl felt really disporportionate when it came to walking around.

Also, for RP you don't need a huge epic map with tonnes of running, alot of time is spent typing anyways, just gotta keep them out of Line of Sight (bases).

Can we have a map thread that doesn't involve /me abusing, and actually suggest stuff.

I.E. I suggest a place in the middle like Yanov Station. You start in the bottom, minimal props just some beds and lockers. Then branch out from there. Once the bases are established SilverKnight can probably add the dynamic spawns for factions.

Silver, i've bugged you over teamspeak to make a train station...  Yanov would be perfect. Simply because it's neutral territory (In other words Loners) so anyone who spawns there (sides mono and military) would be releativly safe.

Yup, and no freedom vs duty fight, and it'd be one of the best things ever if they would station there. Freedom and duty would not talk to them, and fight about 100m outside the place.

Like X8 in CoP...
Places that factions wont occupy preferbly.
A controlled area, like in the admin room, have a button that shuts a gate to the area so you cant go in, so its an event based place.

Loving the swamps and the bridge, excelent work silver.

What it'd be good: An Underground lab (For monolith, you cant have monolith without underground pants shitting lab/underground) X18/X16 Or hey, maybe even be creative and make a lab for HGN Cannon, Like X27 or somthing, I think we need some more very small camps/buildings for Traders...or just travelling stalkers in general.

Also day/night system that dosnt just dim the screen, Its doable, I've seen it on a HL2 MP...its called....Venetian, it'll be day blah blah then be night. If we can get Night in the map, some underground places and a couple more random places then this truly will be an awesome map...Hell it looks good already.

Also when will there be a test of it on the server/downloadble version so we can check it out on SP?

Mono dont really occupy any undergrounds other than pripyat and Chernobyl itself.
I just thought that places like labs should be LOCKED down.
Opened on admins command only.
A little like rp_downtown_v2.
So its more event based.

If i could suggest (Though it looks as if things have already been positioned) That the Military base be in a more populated area, IE, closer to the centre of the map. On Chernobyl now we're pushed into the back corner and don't really have much to do unless attacked. I remember on redux where we had an outpost real close to the centre of the map and had much more passive RP with everyone. This goes the same for redemption when we ran the S.T.A.L.K.E.R town (Close to spawn)

It is in the centre of the map, it's the major crossing point in between two parts of the map, and the only safe way to pass. Im still considering developing a minefields as a alternative to get to it past the military base.

Perhaps there should be a little arena built in?  Somewhere around/inside the big towns/bases.


Also, you said something about the barn earlier in?  Personally think that it'd look great if some of the walls were broken down, at least in one of the barns.

Yeah, possibly a larger warehouse connected to a series of building or something that we can use for an arena rather than a laggy prop one.

I think that there should be a boat that you can enter, like in CoP. I dont think any of the props are hollow or have room inside, so it would have to be brushwork or a custom model.
