Don't lock the server when you fix the script, that would be a terrible idea.

Shut down the server until the script is fixed, open it again with Hostel's map and the new script.

That would bring a huge boost in numbers.

Or just switch to Taco until shits in working order again.

deluxulous

Silver thinks TacoScript is shit, so fat chance of that happening :\

Lucidius

Shit vs. non-functioning.

Yes, because you can decide when to close a discussion thread.

Well there are certain pro's and cons to either of the two actual options.

Closing:

Pros:
-Drastically prevents "minges" from joining servers
-Keeps roleplay group to a buddy-ish system where everyone sort of knows eachother
-Allows a server to establish a set playerbase

Cons:
-Eventually leads to a stagnat playerbase.
-Cuts popularity of a server even more drastically than the reduced minges
-Is not an entirely reliable system of encouraging good roleplayers to join
-Prone to empty servers for lack of eventual interest

Keeping Open:

Pros:
-Enables peole to access the server easier
-Encourages server publicity
-Allows for a new playerbase (new blood) to circulate through the server

Cons:
-Very prone for the occasional minges
-People who join may not always be the "right crowd" we seek
-Difficult to regulate sometimes, as there is no real registration system in place
-Allows the server to be "open" to attack when administrators are not online

Now we just have to decide on the given facts.

Personally, I'm up for an open server, just that administrators need to be on for the majority of the time to prevent stupid incidents from occuring.

I don't feel this is quite necessary...I mean, minges just pop into a server and cause a lot of shit...but take all the things that prevents minges from even bothering to join:
They have to create a forum account to downlaod the files needed, map, models etc.
They don't have a physgun when they join, and the throw on the G-gun isn't functional.
Weapons are hard to get fast unless you have connections or a great deal of luck.
You need to spend much time on the server to even get the possibility of phys-minging.

I rest my case...

keyfoot

exactly what i stated at the begining, weapons are hard to get for a reason.
cept for me >.> (and thats for a reason also)

Tunddruff

I have seen some niffty ways of doing it.

Here is an example.

Upon joining the server, you must put in your username and password FOR THE FORUMS.
Ohhh Melonbrew... Going on.
This would TELL THEM where the content pack is, and if they register it would tell them the basics.

Would also weed out the failkids as they are already ban from the forums and therefor ban from the server.

But what about people who see 'STALKER roleplay', are intrigued, but don't want to sign up for forums or anything without first seeing how the server runs? I know I didn't sign up for HGN the first day I came on.

Just leave it open.

Just leave it open.

Its absolutely fine how it is. The server is NOT broken, so don't fix it. Just leave it be.

With exception of the inventory and no gun sounds.

...and weapons with no recoil.

Although in some instances it would be beneficial to close it, I truly do not think this is one of them.
