Title: PDA Logs - Mikhal Tokerov
Post by: irondeity on 02-03-2010
PDA Entry

- Day 1:  I just arrived at the Zone, shipped in from Odessa. The damn trip was boring as hell and all the guys I left with got dropped off at other locations before getting here, talk about lonely. Met the General and the Colonel as soon as I arrived on base, I was ready to shit my pants, the General, 'Blaze' as some call him looks like he can the meanest S.O.B. in the world if needed. Early note to self: Best not to piss him off, after rumors I've heard of the way he handles these "Stalker's".

- Day 4: It's been fairly quite since I got here, Nothing like the stories of blood and horrors. maybe I've just been lucky so far. I heard the terms "bloodsucker" and "mutants" thrown around a few times, I just hope I don't meet them if they're real, though they sound more like a scare tactic for new guys. The food is half-way decent here, even if it's still slop. Can't complain, at least I get to eat in the first place.

- Day 6: Been on watch in the tower for the last two straight days. I'm tired but it's orders, and I intend to follow them. Still not much action either. Went on a patrol with Junior Sergeant Felix Denote, he told me to call him 'Doc', but I'm not that informal when the brass is present. He seems like a fairly laid back guy, I hope so anyway.

- Day 16: I've been here for a little over a week now, encountered these "bloodsuckers" and nearly got myself killed. Luckily for me some Merc in one of our old prototype Exoskeletons came and helped, but not before the creature gave me a nasty claw swipe on my left arm. Damn wounds going to scar, that's some bullshit. The merc is a strange guy as well... quite, reserved. He speaks like he cares about nothing, always monotone. I'm glad he views me as an acquaintance and doesn't pull my head off.

- Day 20: That bloodsucker that attacked me a few days ago came back, I can tell by its size and frame, and the goddamn thing pulled me off the roof of the Infirmary and tried mauling me. Doc and another soldier managed to get me inside, not before it injured my goddamn leg though. This hurts like a bitch... In any case, that stupid creature was a ballsy son of a bitch, came over the walls after us, just to get at me. It crept into the room where the Doc put me and tried to finish the job. It got my good knife right in its fucking neck too. Didn't like that one bit, threw me off the wall and fled. I'll kill that bastard yet...

-Day 24: Went out on a few patrols with the Major. They call him Yurdansky but he hates when someone uses his name so I keep my mouth shut. He's a nice guy, until someone pisses him off, so I'm just going to make sure I never do that. My leg is still hurting, but at least I can walk.

-Day 30: In the last 6 days I've had to deal with stupid Stalker's wandering up to the gate. I love when I'm given permission to plant a bullet in their heads. And to make things better, I guess that one bloodsucker, I'm calling him Roar cause he never stopped howling at me, I suppose he "sent" some "friends" after me lately. Too bad all 4 of them wont be bringing Roar my corpse, as their heads are now severed, preserved, and awaiting wall mounts.

-Day 34: The Major and I apprehended some clown for questioning today, I guess he was trying to spy on us. The Major got him to sing and the guy said he was employed by some guy that was at the Red Forest building. So, we went out there and dragged his sorry ass with us. Turned out to be a wasted fucking trip as no one was there, but this Stalker had a sense of humor during the next series of questions. The Major asked for a name, and this guy gets funny and says 'Blaze', hell I knew that the Major had a fiery temper, and I saw it come out after that word left the Loner's mouth. We threw the poor bastard out a second story window in the building, he didn't die, nor was he really injured, and i just couldn't help myself at letting that happen. I jumped out the window and landed on the bastards right arm with my boots, full body weight, I just smiled to myself when I heard that distinctive crack and the man started to twitch and gurgle. A job well done I'd have to say. No one insults the General and gets off as easy as he did, but the Major said not to kill him.

-Day 35: Had to buy a new PDA, my old one got damaged. I'm happy the data transfer worked, I intend to share these entries when/if I ever return home. Now on to business. I got myself a callsign I'm going to use from now on. A Stalker blurted it out after seeing me "discipline" his two friend with my knives. 'Sabre', that's what he said, i guess they've never seen a CQC Specialist in close combat before, I think the guy pissed himself after his pals dropped dead. It's easy to know whose a rookie in battle, it's in their eyes and movements, a look of fright, even the slightest shaking in the hands. I just had to turn and say "boo" to have that other clown sprint off like a hare, he even tripped over his own damn feet a few times as he ran off. Was a good days work for me.

Day 36: Been talking with one of the Vanguards lately, Krystal Winter's is her name. I've never seen a woman in my life who is so goddamn ruthless in combat or during interrogations...

(This first one isnt entirely on the cool factor as I wanted so my future entries should look better, more on the lines of a Bagelz or Strelok style)

PDA Entry

-Day 44: Was having a regular old day, simple guard duty, and then I hear of some damn high-yield bomb outside our North wall. Adrek, went to disarm it while we dealt with some other matters. Lev and I went to check on him while he was carting it to a safe detonation distance... damn cart tipped and caused a premature detonation. Blew the three of us away a good 10 feet. I don't know what was going on after it detonated as all I remember was the sound and the sudden shock wave and shrapnel, I woke up sometime later in the bunker, I was sore as hell, it hurt just to breath. But I somehow survived, as well as Lev and Adrek, thankfully.

-Day 46: I got sniped by some Stalker today. The bullet clipped the edge of my armors plate, splitting the round in half. One half dug into my right shoulder and hurt like a son of a bitch, the other shattered along with that upper section of plate. I'm surprised to be alive.

-Day 48: A day passed quietly, which was nice for a change, but today I was again targeted and shot by a sniper. This time the round was identified as an SVD round, square into my right bicep. Vanguard Winter's patched me up with the medics, I cant fire my weapons with my right arm out of action right now though. I swear someone is out to get me...

-Day 53: Got shot, again, by a sniper. I'm getting use to expecting them at this point. The round missed Krystal and landed in my armor, however it didn't break through fully. Enough for minor bleeding and a quick field dressing.

PDA Entry - Data File Corruption 34% - Recovering 66% of Data

-Log Date Corruption... Days 54-70... Traces of Corruption evident in perimeters-

-Day 71: Earned myself a new promotion today... The chevrons of Master Sergeant were handed to me from the Lt. Colonel. I must be doing things right to have gotten this far, I just hope I dont dishonor the trust the officers are putting in me.

-Day 72: I had'nt had this position for even a full day and I was already asked to teach a recruit some knowledge in Military doctrinaire. The guy probably thinks I'm a complete asshole, but, I'm just doing my job. An un-knowledged soldier is a dead soldier, and a dead soldier is useless.

-Day 74: Routine patrol today. Had a few Stalker's ru- -File corruption-

PDA Closing - Re-syncing corrupted files

PDA Rebooting - Re-sync Integrity - 77%

-Day 80: Today was really messed up, then what day isn't in The Zone. General Stovsky came out of the bunker and declared a new mission, with the entire garrison being called to action at once. He said we had to hunt down "a certain bitch", I had no idea whom he ment, I figured it was a regular Stalker... But the entire garrison for one Stalker seemed odd. We left the base and moved towards Duty territory, stopping on a ridge just near the swamp. The General said our target was confirmed on the opposite side of the swamp, and so we began to move over. Now this is the strange part... The "bitch" that he mentioned, whom I believed to be a Stalker, was in truth, Vanguard Winters. We were ordered to encircle her and some other guy who was present with her, whom I later discovered was Owen. In any case, A few loners were present and refused to evacuate the area so we ignored them, one was that American with one of our old exoskeletons, Sch- S-- Alphonse something or other. The General then ordered us to kill Winters, however, we all refused to take the order as something seemed to be wrong. Later I found out that the General had a split personality that came to the surface, and it wasn't a good thing... I dont remember much after that as I, as usual, got myself shot and blacked out from blood loss.

-Day 82: Colonel Ruslan was appointed as the standing General in the absence of Stovsky, whom is currently MIA. The Colonel should be up to the task.

-Day 85: Not much happened the last few days. I'm barely able to keep my eyes open to write this... The Colonel went off the deep end in my book. He started talking to himself and showing symptoms that required a field issued Section 8. He arrested me for no apparent reason in some random act that he said was "nervousness". He locked me in the armory but forgot to take my equipment from me prior... and being talented in Recon/Demo with my CQC meant I kept some goodies in my bag, in the form if C4. I blew the damn armory door down and was about to open the inside bunker door when... it opened for me, but Owen was standing in my way.

-Day 86: Things went haywire around here. Absolutely FUBAR. Ruslan tried to arrest the Commissar and I. I take direct action and give him a beanbag shot at about 10 feet to put him down for awhile and he manages to pop 2 rounds off at me. I dont recall much of what happened after that for sometime. I remember waking up at the Eco bunker then again at the Red Forest. From there we moved to D-

Its been a long time, but this is a special PDA entry that took me the last 4 hours to type up after trying to remember what happened 2 months ago while Ive been unable to use any internet. I hope you readers enjoy.

PDA Entry - Data Filoes Loaded

-Day ??: Recapping. My name is Mikhal Tokerov, codenamed Sabre. I am a former Senior Warrant Officer of the 105th Black Fire regiment dispatched to the Zone by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the government of Ukraine, under orders to blockade enterance to the Zone by unauthorized persons, and to halt the trafficing of information, technology, and unnatural phenomena from within the Zone to the outside world.

I lost track of the days finally, i knew it was a matter of time before I would forget to count. This will just have to be a long typing session.

Ive been out of the military for what seems like months when it's been in fact only a few short weeks. I've sent a notice to Colonel Yurdansky via a merc who passed me a day ago, hopefully the Colonel received and read it rather than just tossing it in a pile of random crap on his desk. Tagging around Freedom was enjoyable for a short time, however it seems I couldnt keep myself separated from my duty station even if I wanted to... something in my mind beckons me to try and return. it has come to mind that I was in the wrong this entire time and maybe the Colonel will forgive my past insubordination. I have been unable to contact any of my former superiors, my intuition leads me to suspect that they may have been issued new PDA's or PDA serial numbers during my time away.
In my absence I've come to realize just how hard a Stalker's life is, and just how easily their hopes and dreams can become grief and agony. The raw world of the Zone outside of a secure base perimeter, is rather unsettling. Nearly mauled to death by a snork, chased by a pack of filthy bandits, almost having my skull crushed in by some... giant creature, controllers, squid-faced fucks, as if the Zone itself is trying to enact a personal vendetta. But however much it tried, it has yet to claim my life, and for each attempt that fails, my resolve only strengthens.

Moving back to a Stalker's everyday life of crawling through trash and shit, I say how they have hopes and dreams and how those can be sundered. Personally I continue to rough up an easy target here and there, it keeps me sane, and closer to how Ive come to do things in this nuclear hell.

PDA Entry - Data Files Loaded

I needed to take care of a nearby pest, took about an hour and I spent another three on the move. Time stamp is 0732. Now, I made some ground in the last three hours. Ive been trying to follow the military as they moved to a new sector, however until I see one of the topo-maps... correction, if I get to see one of their topo-maps, then I wont know the sector number for sure. By the terrain and memory from Kiev prior to shipment out here, I'd have to say its one of the 030 or 040 sectors. If thats the case then the information I "gathered" about the 105th's new duty station should be leading me right to them, if so then I just need to get to the Colonel before his trigger happy new bloods think Im an enemy.

As I sit near this tree, listening to the sounds of my environment, I decided to take another look at my SWO pins, and how I have dreams every night that lead back to that day...

We ran a routine patrol having been tipped off about some activity in two separate locations in S2. We had the man power and Yurdansky decided to hit both spots at once with two teams. He sent me with two privates and he took a Sergeant and another man with himself, I forget their names now. Anyway, my team arrived at the warehouse and we set up a minor perimeter while Yurdansky got into position. When he radioed in, we moved inside... all clear except for a trap door in the floor. I had one of my men haul it open and I took point, small room, all clear. Just a table, crates, a barrel, and a recorder. Thats when I noticed the wires and that the trapdoor shut when I dropped down inside the room, and it locked. Recorder starts playing, the voice was male and spoke, he said that both locations were rigged and the message was playing because at least one man from both teams had entered one of the two trap rooms. We were instructed that we had 15 minutes to hit the detonator or both rooms would go sky high. Now after seven minutes I received a PDA message from Yurdansky saying to hit the detonator switch. Seems not hitting the switched would have caused a detonation and actually using them would release the opposite door lock. After that fucked up ordeal, we regrouped at the checkpoint.

At the time, our original goal was to catch some clowns who found it amusing to rob and injure on of our Sergeants. This was still the primary objective and sometime after the trap-crap I got word that one of our possible targets was seen heading into the old tunnels. As the Colonel was busy with command, I went out alone, seeing it a good opportunity to snatch and grab one or maybe both suspects. Upon entering the tunnels, my radio choked with static, my heart raced, and my helmet mounted flashlight just didnt seem to give me enough sanctuary against the clawing shadows. I found no trace of anyone or anything. As I proceeded I came across a jammed door and a fallen ceiling vent, i figured maybe the had used the vent to get around the blockage, and thus I crawled in. I was moving in that cramped box-tunnel for a few minutes before I suddenly fell right down and landed on some crates, breaking them in the process, the problem, the vent was a goo4 to 6 feet over my head and I had foolishly not tied a safety line before entering the vents. Just as I was picking myself up I received a radio transmission from Yurdansky, staticy as shit but still rather understood... 'Warrant Officer, what the fuck is your location.'  i knew he must have searched the base for me, he was mad. I explained the situation but he didnt like my response and said quite clearly, ' Dont fucking move, Im on my way to drag your ass out and back to base, in flexcuffs if need be.'  Just as he finished speaking I heard a something shift down the hall from me. I slammed up against the wall and pulled the action back on my OC-14 and let it slam forward, chambering the first round rather loudly. I then moved along the wall with haste until I reached the corner, my main flashlight went dead when I fell into the crates, so I drew out a spare used for rail mounting and rigged it with a pair of zipties I use for prisoners, and tied it to my OC-14 barrel. Flicking it on I turned the corner, weapon leveled... nothing except an old soda can rolling. If I had been hooked up to a hospitals heart monitor at that moment, my vitals would have been spiking as my heart pumped adrenaline and blood through my veins at what felt like three times the normal rate. All I heard as I watch that can roll in my flashlight beam was the sound of my own shallowed breathing. Cans dont roll by themselves and the impact of my fall wouldnt have enough force to send through that much cement and concrete to make the damned thing roll. Someone or something was down here, and at that point, I didnt give a fuck what I came to do, I wanted out. I slid myself back around the corner and quickly aimed down towards the crates to make sure nothing came up behind me, all clear. I moved back to the crates in a full sprint, took a sharp 180 and dropped to a knee, keeping my sight trained down the hall. It seemed like hours, time ground to a halt as I secured my ground in that place, 'a false gate to hell itself' as I called it then.

Above me I heard vibrations in the vents and quickly aimed up, seeing a familiar face in which I almost shot all over the ceiling. It was a merc friend of mine, whom I will not name. Then the Colonels highly agitated voice rang out, 'Alright you asshole, the ropes coming down.' I could tell the merc was grinning behind that mask as he slid a coil of rope over the edge and dropped it to me. I secured it around me harness and gave a tug to let them know to pull me up, and as they did, I aimed down that hallway one last time, I caught the light bend around something. i looked up and said rather worried and blunt, 'Get me the fuck out of here, right the fuck now.' . As soon as I had a hand on the vent edge I scrambled up like a worm on a hook, because I had no intention to have my legs ripped off by that squid-faced fuck, glaring at me like I was the god damn Sunday turkey. I dont know how long it was watching me and I didnt care at that second, we crawled out of the vent like a pack of rats and hauled ass for the surface. This is where the shit hit the fan. Once we exited the tunnels, the Colonel had a squad train their rifle sights on me and my merc pal took my weapons and tied my arms. I was dragged back to base like a prisoner, and once there, treated like one. I was accused of high treason against the MoIA and Ukraine, saying I was trying to trade information to Freedom. Small error in the logic there, if I was trying to betray a force that I only wanted to serve for my entire life, by giving information to Freedom, then why the fuck would I be in a dark, dirty, and now obviously, mutant infested tunnel? Didnt matter what I said, one thing you learn is, if a superior says your wrong, then your wrong you'll always be in the wrong. Thats when he threw me in the cell with a loner we snatched earlier that day. Worst 30 minutes of my life as he brought half the regiment in to stare me down and beat the shit out of me. Hell one of them got a lucky shot and knocked my lights out for a minute. When I recovered from that, the Colonel was outside the cell, talking to someone. A few minutes past and the cell door was opened and I was told to get the hell out and run to Freedom. Now Freedom was tipped off about this little... internal conflict and made a move to spring me. I took the situational advantage and put on an act of wishing to ally myself to their cause. I even had Blaze go shake the militaries cage. All part of the plan. Yurdansky would have yelled once or twice, and then let me resume my duties. But now I was put right next to Seth Gecko, or as I call him, The Snowman. I could have crippled Freedom right then and there while Seth was out of his exo. However I didnt plan on his right hand, Goose, to be standing over my shoulder the entire time. He would have gunned me down and just picked up the mantle of leader himself and then swept back at the 105th. SO instead I played it off. I promised to help them take out a military supply convoy, due the next day, to help Freedom replenish their equipment. Truth be told, this 'convoy' was actually a large militant patrol intended as a show of force in the area. Freedom would have been slaughtered in our area and I would have no blood on my hands for personal kills. However the day we were to go, Monolith and Freedom had a little shoot out. Freedom lost and became to battle weary to try for the 'convoy'. The day after that I left, pack up and wandered off, and this brings my story back to the present. The Colonel intended to send mercs and all manner of shit at me, but... he never did. That leaves me to suspect a few things: He had no intention to actually kill me. He knew I'd find a way to evade his lackeys. And/or He didnt wish to waste to money. Whatever the reason, they never came looking, but now I search for them, like a lost mutt trying to find his way home.

I do hope I find them soon. Low on food and ammo, no medical supplies, weapons are going further into disrepair, my suits in bad shape, I probably look like this 'Grizzly Adams' as i havnt had a shave in weeks, I smell like animal intestines, and I suspect I am being followed by a pack of suckers... I can hear movement in the distance now and then. The sound has been with me for sometime now and it sure the hell aint human. Should it truly be mutants, then I am in no shape or frame of mind to fend myself properly, and in turn they will find a quick, easy meal. Though, they say in a humans final moments, should they be in danger, the body can do amazing feats, like a blood crazed animal. If it really is squid-faced fucks then I suppose I'll prove that theory to myself.

Now should someone find this PDA on my corpse, then I suppose I never made it back, and in that regard, know this mutt did have a dangerous bite. But for now I'm alive and I need to continue on or I may lose the trail forever. As the Americans say, I am down but certainly not out.

The PDA has made it's way into Goose Chesnikov of Freedom, friend of Mikhal. The logs remain empty from here forward. The 'Online' status of the PDA was switched off two days ago and will never been seen again.

((I'm happy you guys enjoyed Mikhal's entries, but he has fallen victim to the Zone and there will be no more except the Corrupted segments when they're ready. Until then, look for new logs from other characters soon.))

PDA Entry

Day ?? - It has been quite a long time since I've left any logs on a PDA... I have returned to the Zone after a few months of personal matters that required my attention, the only way I knew would get me the leave of service from the garrison, was an elaborate scheme concerning false betrayal's and a fake death. Freedom was indeed so very naive to believe I had seriously defected my Military service, to join their ragtag group of undisciplined misfits. It's funny, Ive met birds with more brains than them.

My first action was trying to get back to the Military base, without being gunned down in a loners equipment. I did find a way, a ex-Spetsnaz officer with a bad agenda whom wanted to put the garrison commander out of commission. He knew where they had setup base, so I played along with his game until he turned his back... for special forces, he was rather pathetic, turning his back on a stranger. His head made a good gift for the Colonel, and his old suit made it easy for me to waltz right into their compound. I came to make terms with Nikolai and he reinstated me into the ranks, but I requested to enter back as a recruit, and that my former rank be passed on to Yuri, which it was... Thats all for now, I have matters to attend to.
