Nicolai 'Thunder' Lagunov's story

Nicolai had a quite normal child hood, he went through a stage of being bullied by older and stronger lads because of his appearance. As a youngster he was skinny and had little muscle, causing him to be picked on, he wasn't the brightest kid in class nor was he the dumbest, he was average at best. Nicolai lived in Stalingrad until he was 5 when he moved with his family to Kharkiv a city in Ukraine. He had two brothers Chekov Lagunov, and Vladimir Lagunov. Vladimir was the youngest child with Chekov being the oldest. Nicolai was roughly 2 years younger than Chekov, but supprisingly all 3 brothers got along really well. Chekov was quite strong for his year and would often beat up the bullies who harmed Nicolai. Due to the help Chekov often gave Nicolai, he had a large respect for him. When Nicolai was 8 and Chekov nearing 11, Chekov got into a fight with a group of bullies at the school, although they weren't as strong as Chekov they outnumbered him and ended up breaking his nose and giving him alot of bruises. Nicolai was upset from this as Chekov had always looked out for him and he was to weak to help Chekov. Nicolai picked up a small time job cleaning tables at a cafe to help pay for going to a gym. He did this because he wanted to build himself up, and become as strong and popular as his brother. After a year he  was just as strong as Chekov, Chekov was shocked to see Nicolai fighting one of the bullies that beat him up, and winning. Vladimir didn't like being 3rd or even 2nd best and often got angry at his other brothers later on in life.
   
At the age of 15 Nicolai got his first girlfriend, Alina a 15 year old girl with brunette hair. Nicolai thought the world of her, but for reasons he didn't understand at the time she became more distant a few months down the line. About 4 weeks of her being distant he found out why. She had been seeing another lad from his school who's family had a fair share of money, Nicolai realised from then that she was a gold digger. She never really loved him or anyone but herself this upset Nicolai. Nicolai stereotyped all girls thinking they were all the same and forgot about girlfriends and just got on with his life.

At the age of 17 he had started collegue and his older brother Chekov, who was turning 20 was working at a factory. Nicolai spoke to Chekov still but not as often as he would have liked. Chekov started to get into trouble with some people and ended up owing money. Chekov couldn't afford the money they were demanding and ended up having to steal money from his Mother. Nicolai's Father left his mother when he was only 4, and so Nicolai knows hardly anything about him.
   
At the age of 20, Nicolai found his brother to be packing his things into a ruck sack. He asked him why he was leaving and tried to make him stay but Chekov told him that he couldn't stay due to being in debt with a gang. After a talk with Chekov, Nicolai finaly got out of Chekov where he was going. Nicolai still remembers exactly what he said to this day "I'm going to the zone". Nicolai had only heard rumours of the zone, and was thinking about what he had heard about it, before realising Chekov had gone. After a while of being in a dead end job and barely being able to live with his pay, Nicolai started to find out more about this 'Zone'. He got some information on the strange things going on there like mutated animals, artifacts and people known as S.T.A.L.K.E.Rs. Nicolai bought some gear off the black market with some of his money he had and left for the zone in the dead of night.
   
Vladimir followed Nicolai, because he was still a child at heart and wanted an adventure, but he wasn't built for the zone nor was Nicolai for that matter. Nicolai did some jobs then and there getting money where ever he could to get some better gear. After months in the zone he only then found out from a Rookie S.T.A.L.K.E.R that his brother Vladimir was in the zone. After Nicolai tried to find him searching for what felt like weeks in a matter of days. A S.T.A.L.K.E.R approched him with a rucksack his name they exchanged names Nicolai going by 'Thunder' and the man going by 'Buzz', i asked him why he was called buzz and he replies simply with "I drink to many energy drinks and get hypo a lot". 'Buzz' told me the rucksack was his brothers who had gone by the name of 'Lightning'. He told Thunder how it happened, that Lightning was attacked by a boar and stabbed in his chest by the tusk. Lightning told Buzz to find his brother and tell him he just wanted to be like his big brother. Nicolai was upset from the blow of his brothers death, thinking it was his fault that Lightning perished. Nicolai searched his belongings and found some money a Martha covered in blood and a old photo of him Lightning and Chekov in there early teens. Nicolai took the stuff and thanked Buzz by giving him some rubles for the trouble. Nicolai still has the photo to this day as he lives his life in what is known as the zone.
