Diary Entry: Well Im bored and have time in my hands so I thought about starting a diary so here goes.

                                   Thinking about leaving the Zone.
I kinda wish I had written all my experiences in the Zone into my PDA because I think my brain is denying some things that have happened here and my good memories are getting all hazy. So Im thinking about leaving the Zone because I just..... I can't stand living in here anymore. All I can think of are all the dead or lost people I knew from Duty and I just can't take it anymore. Especially when I got kicked out of Duty I feel like I have no purpose here anymore. Fuck I even thought joining Freedom but soon came to my senses and thought that I would betray all my (dead) friends if I did that. At the moment Im just.... Lost, only a few familiar faces around and everyone treats me like some fresh rookie piece of crap who just arrived here. Goddamnit all I do is sit in bars and drown all my sorrows in vodka. Even that doesn't help me forget. I just wish I could go back to the old days when everyone I knew in the Zone were alive and well and I was just a fresh Duty soldier. I wonder what happened to some people. They just vanished from the Zone. Like that one officer in Duty who was always bitching about my alcoholism.... Lishvic was his name I think, damn I miss all those people. if I can't find my place in the Zone I guess Ill have to bribe the soldiers to let me go through the cordon and hope they wont shoot me in the back.

                                                   A new beginning.

Yesterday I had a talk with Andre who sort of runs the Neutral Cross stalker group and he invited me to join them. I gladly accepted his invitation and I hope that my stay with them will be very long. Maybe this will give me something to put my mind on and while Im at it maybe Ill help a few stalkers too (And possibly get rid of some bandits as well.) On a sidenote some stalker ran inside the Freedom base yelling that a bloodsucker had his friend but he was so confusing that everyone mostly ignored him. Oh yes and I tried to enter the egghead bunker but it was locked down due to some military personnel visiting there. My guess is that they're planning on some joint operation but well see about that soon I guess.

                                                          Current events.

Well recently things have been pretty good. I got some basic gear from Andre and we conducted a patrol with nothing too interesting happening. Still some bullshit from some biggots who think Im some fresh rookie around here but I dont care about them anymore. I have a place in the Zone once again! Also I met an old Duty friend who had deserted because he was getting abused or something like that. We talked and drank. Things are really looking up!
                                                          Stories and experiences

Im going to write down any experiences I still remember so I can always look them up on my PDA if I want to tell these to someone. And perhaps if I one day leave the Zone and start a family I can tell these to my children or my grandchildren. Haha slim chances but you can always dream eh? Or if the worst happens maybe these will amuse some bandit who took this thing off my corpse and managed to open it.

                                                          My first patrol

This one I remember very clearly. I was on my first patrol and we were on our way to the base when in the dark tunnel a group of Monolith troops opened fire on us. We quickly ran to the base and avoided getting shot. At the base we soon geared up to take them out. We went down to the tunnel and someone threw a grenade to force the enemy into cover while we ran into cover ourselves. I took cover behind a car wreck and a firefight broke out. The only thing you could see in there was the muzzle flashes in the dark and nothing else. After a while one of the bastards got me in the leg and I fell over screaming in pain. Someone dragged me out of there and patched me up. After a while only like 2 came back if I remember correctly. There must have been like 5 or 6 of us who went there and only so few came back. We retreated up to our base and rested there and discussed the confusing situation. Then we heard the elevator being sent up and there was a zombie!!! in there. A goddamn zombie! We shot it before it had the chance to do anything to us. I spent a few days after those events in the bed healing my wound.

                                                          The (friendly?) bloodsucker

So this happened when Duty had mounted an attack against Freedom (Which failed miserably) So we were licking our wounds in a tunnel when this bloodsucker appeared out of thin air and grabbed me. I panicked and screamed for help but none of the people in my squad would listen or then they were all just in shock from their wounds. The bloodsucker dragged me into a basement where he gently put me down on a couch and looked at me as if it was waiting for me to do something. Then this poor rookie barged in and the bloodsucker immediatly jumped on him and started tearing him apart. I saw my chance and grabbed an axe that was on the ground and tried to hit in the back but I missed because it was moving around so much. It was angered and it threw me in a corner and after that it started feeding off of the rookies corpse, I dont think Ill ever get that image out of my head. I was sure I was going to die down there, but then suddenly someone threw a flashbang in there and shot the bloodsucker. That was faster action than anything I had seen before. After I regained my sight I saw a stalker near me and the corpse of the bloodsucker in a corner. The stalker turned out to be Andre and I am to this day grateful he saved me from down there. After a brief talk we left and I returned to the Duty base unharmed. Over at the base I rewarded him generously for saving my life.

                                                            The anomalous hill/cave

One day while I was guarding the gate like usual one of the eggheads asked for help from any stalkers that were willing to help him. Naturally being curious and all I went over to the ecologist bunker and there was a man in Seva with a dozen of stalkers surrounding him. He was telling them about this anomalous hill and how it was attracting mutants the usual egghead talk. He needed to take some samples or something from there and he asked for us to cover him. Soon the mutants noticed us and attacked us en masse. We fought and lost many rookies to them but finally we drove them back and the scientist was ready. After that he told us that there was an entrance to some sort of cave on top of the hill and that someone had to go in. A stalker named Gearhead (I think it was Gearhead. Not sure though might have been Hydra.) volunteered and he found a way past the anomaly fields and on top of the hill. What happened there is unknown to me but when he came out he was in poor condition and he fainted on the slopes of the hill. Someone had to do something or else he would surely die and since nobody else volunteered I went in. Carefully I avoided the anomalies and finally got to him and picked him up on my shoulder and started carrying him away.
But then disaster struck. The anomalies changed position and I had no bolts on me so I had to guess my way through them all. It was hell out there but with extreme luck I made it out of there in one piece and Gearhead (or Hydra still cant remember.) was still kicking. He was dragged to the ecologist bunker and given medical attention, after which I left to my base not before saying that he owed me a drink though. Even to this day he still hasn't bought me a drink but eh. What can you do.

I wish I remembered more of these but its been quite a while and my alcoholism doesnt help.

Damn Bloodsuckers!

It's been quite a while since I last wrote in here. Yesterday I was walking over to the Freedom base looking for people to talk with when this bloodsucker comes out of nowhere and runs towards me! I tried to shoot it with my rifle but I was caught totally off guard and I was tackled to the ground without being able to do much damage to it. (I think I hit a couple of times.) It was about to wrap its disgusting tentacles around my neck when this rookie arrived and started screaming at the bloodsucker to leave me alone. Heh brave rookie. The bloodsucker seemed to have been surprised and jumped off me and cloaked and after a moment it was trying to claw the rookie into pieces! I took my trusty colt and shot at it, hitting it in the back I think and it left the rookie alone and cloaked once again. I tried to stand up but almost immediatly it ran past me and clawed at my neck thankfully not hitting anything that would've killed me but it hurt like hell and I started to bleed. Once again the damn thing cloaked and ran.
The rookie came over to me and started to bandage my wounds and it seemed like it had left us alone for the moment. We talked a bit and started to move towards Freedom base slowly.
We managed barely five meters when the fucking thing attacked again this time clawing at the rookies leg and throwing me to the ground leaving us very vulnerable. I thought we'd be dead for sure but it just cloaked again and ran off. No idea where it went but I stood up again and the rookie started to limp towards Freedom. I started to run towards it and eventually made it there. Soon I left the place and noticed that the rookie never entered Freedom. Soon after that I heard an agonizing scream that I presume was the rookies. I never even heard his name but that was one brave motherfucker. Anyway after resting for a moment in there I left for the ecologist bunker. I arrived to the hill and looked down and saw a stalker facing another damn bloodsucker. This one was different though. I ran as fast as I could over to them and pulled my colt to shoot at the bloodsucker. The stalker tried to kill the bloodsucker by firing his weapon on automatic and while holding the trigger down. Naturally his gun jammed and the bloodsucker was still breathing. I put my last rounds in the bloodsuckers back but even that didn't kill it. The bloodsucker took a kabar off its own hand and tried to stab the stalker in the head with it but his helmet stopped the blade, only rendering him unconcious. I only had my kabar as a weapon and I stabbed the bloodsucker in the back leaving it there.  Then the worst possible thing happened. An emission was about to start so the bloodsucker backed off laughing in a very disturbing way. I picked up the stalker and carried him into cover he regained his conciousness rather soon.

Bandits trying to take NC base.

Nothing really special. Some bandits with fancy gear tried to take over our base with some damn good weaponry and suits but clearly no good tactics like usually with bandits. We took them down pretty fast but they had one fancy thing with them. They had somehow put up a working truck and plated it with thick metal. I have no idea how the truck supported its own weight but thats how it was. We killed most of them and looked inside the truck. There was a chest in there which was naturally (and poorly) wired to explode as soon it was opened. It took like a minute for the damn thing to blow up and even the explosives were like firecrackers. Anyway I climbed in to see what was inside the chest. Nothing special. Stuff like water, some pistols, PDA and other crap like that. Oh yeah and a bottle of vodka I took when the others weren't watching. Knife decided to sell all of it for cheap to the stalkers who had helped us fight the bandits. One of the rookies started to cry about the decision and he was kicked out of the base.
Nothing special happened for like half an hour.

The Monolithian at the Garbage.

I was walking around when I met Alex Chorei who was about to go hunting for artifacts at the garbage so I followed him. We got on top of the hill and suddenly a monolith soldier comes through an anomaly. Naturally Alex shot at him with his pistol and I took cover since I was out of ammo. I called for backup and after a small bit of fighting we got him down on the ground groaning in pain. We eventually put him out of his misery and left the scene.

Future plans.

I heard that some scientist is gathering a team to go hunt for a poltergeist or something like that. I think I could go and try help him with his mission and pray I don't get killed. I just need to get ammo and maybe a sidearm or something like that. I read that its in an underground complex as well so if Im going to go in there I better take my shotgun with me. And maybe wrap some tin foil around my head.

I owe my life to Freedom. And I think my face will never be the same. It's a miracle I'm still alive after that near bulletproof mutant attacked me. And nobody NOBODY helped me fight it, they just watched it try and eat my face off. Then seemingly the creature dragged me over to Freedom and left me on the ground. Thank God they didn't care about the Duty patch I wear.
Now my face is covered in bandages and it doesn't bleed but it hurts like hell. Anyway the Freedom fellas killed the damn thing and even escorted me halfway back to base. Until a bloodsucker attacked. The next thing I remember is I wake up in the Neutral Cross base. I got up as soon as I could and looked for Niko.
He was hanging with the insane Surtech mercs. I swear all those guys are crazier than the Monolith people. One of them tried to shoot me and Niko didn't seem to care one bit!! I don't trust those mercs at all. Duty times were so much easier. Perhaps Ill one day try and join them again. Maybe when the current leader dies or he leaves the Zone.
For now I gotta take things easy. Maybe walk around but I can't even imagine if I had to fight a controller or something like that. My head would propably burst.

Back in business

Well well. It's been a long time since I've used this thing. But might as well start writing a diary again. I'm back in Duty now serving as a soldier. The leader just changed to Cosmach. He seems to be a good leader. We've even got some new recruits! Although the other one seems to lack any tactical sense and combat experience. He runs around like a headless chicken and has disobeyed a few orders (Not sure if on purpose.) I just hope he'll learn that the Zone is dangerous and running off will most likely get him killed.
Did a patrol the other day with them. We searched the wooden manor building and just when we were about to leave the recruit, Ganya smelled a foul odor. We went back and I told the two recruits to check the attic. They climbed up and I secured the staircase. Just when they had gotten up and were about to start looking around something smacked the other recruit, Dolvic in the back of his head. He fell unconcious and Ganya yelled for help. I climbed up and we got Dolvic back down and carried him outside. He woke up after a while and we went back to the base to get us some flashbangs. But when we came back the mutant or whatever it was had left. We then continued our patrol. Nothing special except some ass took a few potshots at us from the tower or someplace like that.
Right when we were about to head back to base Ganya fell on his knees. It seems that the odor was coming from some kind of toxic gas! I'm glad me and Dolvic had gasmasks. We dragged Ganya back to base and he was given medical treatment. The man should be alright by now.

Idiot recruit

I was out on a patrol with the Dolvic when we were attacked by bloodsuckers. We fought them and eventually one dragged me off, leaving Dolvic alone. Well! When I woke up I was in a cabin nearby and the bloodsucker was on a couch wounded and growling. I stood up and the recruit and a merc came in. The bloodsucker was peaceful and even looked like it was begging for mercy, it even had those goddamn puppy eyes. I gave the recruit and order NOT to shoot and he went all: "Okay then." The bloodsucker looked relieved and immediatly the recruit shot it. Just cold bloodedly shot the damn thing and showed no emotions. Jesus I hate these retards who pretend to be hard asses.
After that we were about to return to base when I noticed that the merc sounded and looked like a Freedomer I had met earlier. I told him to take off his gasmask and he refused. He started to run and I chased him to an abandoned house where we both fired a burst at each other. Both of us were hit and we were on the ground wounded. Then the recruit started yelling outside and eventually he let the anarchist get away unharmed claiming that we both couldn't possibly take down a wounded Freedomer! I will talk about this with the Major later.

So we moved to a new area and scouted around a bit. Personally I like the new base we got, small and tidy. Well see how things roll.

Promotions and Freedom prisoners, also some other things.

So first off, I got a promotion. Senior Soldier.... Two other recruits were promoted to soldier. We also captured two Anarchists who we then took to base and ransomed for two thousand rubles each back to Freedom. Things went smoothly and we got the cash. Things are really going well for Duty right now.

Also something completely random happened some time ago. There was noise coming from the tunnels and soon four or five Army soldiers climbed out, scared shitless. I just stood there watching a bit surprised when a mutant appeared from nowhere. The soldiers said that it's bulletproof and I believed them because I've seen other bulletproof mutants and I don't want to piss anymore of them off. The mutant walked up to a soldier, lifted him on his shoulders and went back in the tunnel. The soldiers just looked around for a bit and went after him after telling us that "We were never here." The Zone just keeps throwing surprises at me.

Doubts.

An old friend, Crosshair just came by the base (From the tunnels.) We had a little talk and now I've started to wonder. Was it a good idea to join Duty again? None of my old friends are left, the new people seem just so.... distant and so depressing. I feel like I'm always just... Hm. I have this feeling like Duty isn't going anywhere, now this might be because of the low amount of soldiers but we hardly even raid mutant lairs anymore. The tunnels right beneath us would make an excellent place to start, but we just sit around guarding and occasionally doing a patrol to the Stalker village and back. If only things were like in the old days....

Tunnel raid.

Scouted the tunnel beneath our base with Fedoseev. We went down and a hail of snorks attacked us, we killed them and moved on. Then all hell breaks loose. Bloodsuckers, zombies you name it, they were trying to kill us. We fled to a tiny room filled with bloodsuckers, we cleared it out and then noticed that we didn't have any ammunition left. Zombies down the ladders, dead end in the room. We waited and waited until shots were heard and some soldiers climbed up and told us to go with them. We ran to the long hallway with the ladders back to base and to our horror saw that it was filled with zombies. Luckily the soldiers had ammo left and cleared most out, one got wounded and had to be dragged out. Eventually everyone survived that and the soldier was given quick treatment and we sent him to his base.

When me and Fedo were alone in there I almost abandoned all hope and nearly threw myself against the zombie horde armed only with a knife. Luckily I didn't and I live to see another day.

Wandering around.

Okay, usual patrol blahdiblah, nothing special. After that, I go out to wander about alone. I arrive at the swamp and see a body in there, I go closer and drag him out, seems like he was a scientist, nothing on the corpse. Well I couldn't just leave his body there rotting so I dragged him away to the gas station. When I arrived there, I saw a stalker try and get an artifact out of an anomaly, I asked the stalker to help me bury the scientist and she agreed.
We buried him and after that we had a little chat. Turns out the stalker was Dragons daughter! And that Dragon himself is dead. Dragon. Dead. I just.... how could someone like Dragon die in here?! I know we weren't the bestest of friends but it's still rather shocking, hope he was given a decent burial and all that.... Well his daughter calls herself Dragoness apparently, although she told that her real name is Alisa..... A rather charming name I think.

I've also been thinking of leaving Duty behind me once and for all. I feel like exploring the Zone and being free of all these orders and all of this crap. For the time being I shall stay here though, protecting stalkers and killing mutants.

New winds.

So... I left Duty, for good. I guess I just got tired of the discipline and all that, I don't know, just felt like I had to do it. Could be worse though, I could've been a deserter. At last, freedom to do whatever I want to!

We had quite a nasty accident at the gas station today. We were having trouble with the Albino, I'm dead sure it's the same one I've seen before. We fought it at the station, the bastard maimed a stalker, we were forced to put him out of his misery. I hate to see such waste of life..... Then, I was walking on the roof and guess what! Yeah the bastard attacked me and threw me off the roof. I'm glad the Usual Suspects were outside, they dragged me in and treated my wounds. Christ I wonder how many times will I have to see that damn Albino, why won't it just die!? Anyway, I've got to take it easy for some time now but I hope I'll be back in action soon. I wonder if the Usual Suspects would let me in their group....?

Catching up

Decided to write in this thing again, haven't really had the time recently, or maybe I've just been really lazy. Who knows. Anyway, I've been a part of the Usual Suspects for a while now, a nice bunch. We did a job yesterday, some trader tried to get our friend Denis killed, we shot up the mercs he sent and went after the trader. Caught him pretty fast and dragged him back to Denis, they talked for a while and the guy we captured left. Soon after that when we were talking to Denis some bastard shot me in the back. Luckily the rounds ricoched off my air tanks, still knocked me enough so that I keeled over and lost conciousness.

After that incident, back at camp while I was having a walk nearby I saw two people approaching us weapons raised, I recognized them as Monolith soldiers and alarmed the others, we fought at the camp and eventually killed em both, taking no casualties.

YOU HAVE ONE NEW MESSAGE ALEK
FROM: Nicolai Lagunov.
Message: Hey Alek. I heard you guys got attacked by monolith? Hope everyone's ok. Well i'm out of the area for a while trying to tie up a loose end as it were. I will be back soon to help you mock Hydra haha, only jokin.

I'm in need of money for a suit so i'm planning on selling my LR300 for 4 grand if you're interested? If not can you pass on the word to the other Suspects as they may want the extra firepower. Not sure if 4 grand is cheap, but i believe it is due to the increased prices of weaponry. Hopefully after i get this extra money i can finaly get a suit and not look like a damn rookie.
It's been nice seeing you again Alek, remember when we got hammered when your were in Duty at the bar? haha good times. Shame things arn't like that anymore and I look nothing like him anymore, no Modded Sunrise no Sig550, just simple clothing and a AK-74M.
Well message me back when you have time it will be good to see how you're doing and to get any info on any buyers of the LR300.

Luck!

Recently I've had quite the luck. I found two artifacts and sold em for 1400 rubles. Though after I had sold them to the ecologists some completely insane person started shit inside the bunker and eventually he ended tied on a table, half naked. And the eco was thinking of testing the effects of the Thorn artifact on him, the man almost got a thorn stuck in his guts. Eventually the man was given some pills and thrown outside. I also found a Black Kite, my guess is I'm going to be using it, a lot...

New area

So, we've all moved into a new place, gotta scout around to get my bearings.
Me, Cross and Niko went to some train tunnels to save some Ecologist. Halfway I was separated from the others, I'm glad nothing attacked me but there was something ramming a door. Sounded like whatever it was, it was incredibly strong. I left the area and went back to the others. Niko and the eco were wounded, we got outside without any problems though, Cross and Niko both got 1 thousand rubles. I also sold some of my stuff and got 2,6 thousand rubles. Still not nearly enough money for a better suit but I'm getting close.

It has been a while.
Well, it has indeed been a while since I wrote here. Quite a few things have happened... Like Stanislav and Senka joining the ecologists as mercs or something. Good for them, but it leaves me sort of alone. I haven't heard of Hydra or Dragoness in a while now either.

I met some rookies just now though, Vladimir and Dima they're called. They seem decent enough, but looks can always be deceiving. Only time will tell. It feels good to be back to doing things again.
