Several books were found in an old and surprisingly intact but still ancient Ermorian library. While the author is unknown, his writings on the High Elves of old are still legible:
High Elves, synonymous with lofty towers and bourgeois mansions of crystal and gold. Long evolved from their pasts as native woodland dwellers, the High Elf of today knows where he stands and can stand tall there. Not to say they have ever been pretentious. None would find better and more generous host.
A child born into High Elven society is immediately thrown into the world of academics and trades. By early adulthood a High Elf is expected to have established themselves in some form of profitable venture, be it art, trade, or magic, as long as it is beautiful or expensive it is looked upon as an asset to High Elven society.
High Elves have always quarrelled with the "lesser elves" but never to the point of all out war or hatred. As for the other races High Elves put their best faces on. Due to this to others they appear gaudy, haughty, and prideful. Even while trying to be gracious and thankful, they can sometimes be off putting in their kindness.
