Bought the game yesterday. goton today to start it for the first time. Got past the first cutscene, talked to the first guy while i was laying in bed. When i stand up, as soon as my HUD appears and i get the "Talk to Barman" Objective, my game crashes to desktop.

WTF

I am running a quad core processor on vista. I tried verifying cache files. I tried turning off spysweepers.

My only lead is apparantly it autosaves right when i keep crashing, andd a lot of people have reported quicksaves crash them.

Judas, I've heard that clear sky has this problem with vista.

Hmm maybe it has some problems with Quadcore.

Fuckity fuck.  Apparently niether Vista nor Quad core settings are the problem. I looked it up. It only uses a single core and other people run it fine on quads, and it was designed for Vista.

Well, There is possibly that CS just blows massive dick and god doesn't want you to suffer.

HAHAHAHA IT WORKS NOW AND ITS AWSOME>

Bloom in SoC was a big help with anomalies, You could see the burner so much easier.

Judas, have you tried plugging it in?

Make sure you have the newest patch, and turn off anything like the vista firewall that lets nothing by so you can play it. It works for me and I had no issues

... Did you try googling Stalker glitches

It uses the same engine (ShoC is 1.0 and CS is 1.5). But either way, it still doesnt like multiple core. I myself have an AMD 4200+ (Dual core, 2.4ghz) ShoC ran faster with using one CPU than it did two.

Open the game. Alt tab out (I know you wont be able to get back into it) Crtl Alt Delete, Open the task manager. Select Xengine.exe (I think). Right click and set affinity to CPU 0 (Or if you have it set up differently CPU 1, CPU 2 or CPU 3)

Problem should be solved.
