Back in the day where dieseses was plentyfull and there was many skin conditions, it really was quite natural for people to bandage themselfs up.  Believe it or not but in some cultures people belived that leporacy was a great diesese to gain and so they ate the skin or some shit.  But yeah, defiantly acceptable in those times.  The only down side would have to be the smell of a corpse.
