Here is a representation of the smithing system. Bellow shows Iron ore and coal on the left which go into the furance to create a iron bar which in turn gets used with a hilt which you also craft into a short sword which is shown on the right. There's a basic hud atm for it i really want to have some form of automatic list but we shall see.

Find me a more suitable model. It's only a placeholder. Two of those rocks are supposed to be coal and one iron ore.

That's obviously not what we want to achieve. We want a vast world however most of it should be terrain.

I think 2 or 3 castles with interior villages (sort of like how Mountain Village is, with the walled city) for the houses would be good and then a forest or something between them. That way the houses can stay far enough from each other that should they want to fight they won't be all jammed into one space.
Title: Re: Development Screenshot\media splashout thread
Post by: Recreas on 11-01-2011
Welcome to the middle ages, where the world wasn't as much populated as now. I think back then there was usually one big walled city, and a few kilometers away from that another small town. Between those two there were a few farms but even those were quite far away from each other. And a next castle would be quite far away too. So maybe look at the Oblivion map, there's one hughe city in the middle and around that a few towns. Some are bigger than the rest. In between are forests and open fields maybe even some mountains, and sometimes you find a small farm next to the road. And maybe some Inn's too?

And maybe also from the Knights, Pirates, Vikings. That was source, no?

Then change the name, it isn't really passive when everyone can make SWEPs.

What happened to it being passive and good? Turning it into yet another itemfest like SRP is going to suck.
Title: Re: Development Screenshot\media splashout thread
Post by: Tom on 11-01-2011
Crafting system leads to obnoxious farming which leads to the misconception that it is an RPG. And no, I want a RP server. where Passive is important, when you over complicate the script with shit like crafting, stats, and 9999 items that go up in damage/protection. you get what stalker is today, Very bad/no roleplay. I avoid SRP because people started killing people for items in cold blood not worrying about emotions, People also started to heavily bitch when they lost items. Its more like a chore to RP on SRP nowadays. Like I said, I enjoy RP, and Passive. Not RPG's. I mean hell, King Arthur made a good point, On crussaria EVERYONE is trying to buy a sword, when the average person back in those days probally owned axes or kitchen ware or Daggers. If you give the RPG overtone everyone gets the idea that they are (Insert Medieval RPG hero here) and begins to not RP at all.

If you would like to make Crussaria an RPG PLEASE for the love of god just add NPC traders, and NPC mission givers and NPC's that attack you, as an RPG without NPC trader/Quest givers/Hostile NPC's is boring as fuck and will only lead to an empty server
Title: Re: Development Screenshot\media splashout thread
Post by: Khorn on 11-01-2011
NPCs would be nice. Would need a good sized map to accommodate them too.

I wouldn't care if we lost stats. They don't really do much other then waste room.

Though many RPGs include a crafting system. I would rather test it out first before hating it.

Which is not at all where Exile is taking this. Over TS the other day he even said:

I think I might have to move on soon.

World of Crussariacraft and World of Stalkercraft all the way bro! /sarcasm

seriously though, if I wanted to play a RPG with some RP elements I'd go on a Light RP server, Dark RP server, Or I'd just boot up World of Warcraft and start wasting time there instead.

Or Evercrack, Or Second life, or any of the 5925 Online MMORPG's

I said it was a mixture of both Roleplay and RPG. That's always been it's aim. Roleplay only exists due to the basis of being unable to do sophisticated actions in visual form and roleplay is taking the role of a character. That's what roleplay is.

Role-play
v. role-played, role-play·ing, role-plays
v.tr.
To assume or represent in a drama; act out: "Participants are encouraged to pass on leads about jobs ... and to role-play interview situations with each other" (Hatfield MA Valley Advocate).
v.intr.
To assume or act out a particular role: "When I hire people I role-play with them ... to see how they take pressure" (Peter Schrag).
n.
Role-playing.

The RPG side makes up the world and sets the parameters for what players can and cannot do and brings about functions and features which develop and set the atmosphere while bringing the world to a interactive level. Why do a /me ass pulls a iron bar when you can physically go make one or hire someone to do it for you. If anything it promotes further "roleplay" with other players. There are no personal "gains" in Crussaria like in stalker. There's no high end guns you loose all the time. Crussaria is built around the founding of living out a character in a medieval world. However not to the extent where you /me everything and pull things out of thin air.

If you really think the rpg side is not for you. Your on the wrong server. Crussaria is a RPG Roleplay. To be honest that's a bad name considering RPG stands for "Roleplaying game". It's not like im making it like world of shitcraft with a leveling system.

That's a bad way to think about it. It's basically a RPG with roleplay. Roleplay takes the position of everything the script cannot do- like any other roleplay server. At the end of the day it's all roleplaying
Title: Re: Development Screenshot\media splashout thread

If we wanted to play true RPGs we would play Oblivion or Fallout or Neverwinter Nights or any of the 99 billion other professionally made RPG games that have far better mechanics for RPG models than Gmod does. While having an actual black smith job does increase interaction with the mentally retarded with no imagination (ie most of the people in this community who still regularly play on the SRP server) most good RPers could care less for items or a script. Over the weekend there was nothing and people were having a great time RPing with each other and doing all the "uncanon" things that you don't like for no apparent reason (especially since most of it was from the earlier versions of the Crussaria canon that were done a year ago the last time you said "Crussaria is coming soon").

Both Ping Pong and KingArthur were playing as blacksmiths over the past few days and having fun doing it despite there being no items. Ping Pong had a line like 5 characters deep last time I was on and I've heard KingArthur has been doing good work as well. This should clue you in that people don't need all this extra shit. Yes being able to actually craft a sword would be cool but not at the expense of good RP and crushing imagination.

Two other buildings ive finished work on. If your wondering why i am not showing interiors. That's because we are going to use a teleportation system between buildings and the like to optimise the map and reduce lag as well as making map develop a easier task.

Ive been working on a multiplayer city map from dark messiah to turn it into a roleplayable one. Ive removed most of the bad crap in the map and there were a few "errors" which i had to contend with but it works all the same now.

Current features:

City\side gates are openable and closeable.
Various places for trading

Features i want to do:
Add wilderness to the map (Not too much - this will be running on one of the servers)
Add teleport interiors for rooms and buildings

Ill probably add one or two trees and a stable. But i intend on expanding it alittle further to incorprate a small bit of wilderness, maybe a village and a small cave. But it's primary function is to be the main city of the game.

Ive also done a peasant reskin which is entirely brown to simulate leather or wool which is a change to the weird multi-colored peasant clothes we have from aoc.

Ive ripped out the chat hud from oblivion, not sure what i want to do with it. I figure id make some npcs which you can talk to using the hud. Creating the hud being the hard part and making the replies the longer part.

Ive got the bard npc i made to play the song correctly and accepts 5 coins to do so. Took me awhile to figure out a way around the emit issue but it's all good.

Only two things are done fully so far, one is the sawbench where you saw wood. fairly straight forward, and the other being the furnace ingot part. You can either do one, or do 10. Obviously you need the materials for it to work for either. As for the anvil theres alot to do on that still and i also need to make a hilt workbench for making hilts for several different weapons. Axes/Spears/Staffs/Swords all have different hilts.

I have morrowind weapons which have view and world models so we really are ahead of ourselves when it comes to weaponry. However the third person view is a issue still with our models being that theres only the crowbar and a bugged stunstick animation for melee animations.

Ive tried the AOC animation sets, one works fine but only has a few sword animations, nothing really special and the other has tons of animations in it, everything that you see in AOC but some animations has conflicts and causes some of the animations to mess up. If i can find a way around this we would really be on to a winner.

Do you have a second harddrive? If so install Windows 7 on that one and use your current drive as an external hard drive. Save the work to the second HDD and then wipe the first.

Had to do that a while back myself, worked fine.

Ive pulled an all nighter doing some reskins. M and B would be a good resource to rip potential playermodels from due to the huge diversity.

As you can see here there are 6 groups. Khorn contributed and did one reskin.

What you have there is:

Poor Lower Class
Average Lower Class
Two Middle Class
1 Lightly armored suit (The chainmail\blue one)
Nightwear - Upper Class (It was random and fit perfectly when i was testing it as a design)

They use oblivions textures which are naturally mid-res. For the most part i never changed dimensions. The textures were a bitch to get right and that's as good as they are going to get. If your going to complain about the res then you should think twice about m and b.

Problem with the citizen skins is that they stretch the texture over the model. On the skin I was making, the texture was clear and sharp, but in game it was stretched a bit and caused it to get a bit fuzzy.

Then again, I don't skin, so I don't know that much about the process.  But somebody needs to help Silver.

I have been busy working on a dynamic recipe system to save me alot of time and allow me to easily add content in the future. It's been abit of a learning curve to meet the criteria that i wanted to achieve. But it's turned out pretty well so far.

Here's some notes which show some of the layout plans for items made in the furnace, forge, anvil and hilt clamp.

Furnace = Mold development from clay
Finished weapon + clay = weapon mold
Furnace = Making ingots

Forge = Making Molten Iron/Steel/Silver/Gold

--Molten Ingots
---Iron
---Steel
---Silver
---Gold

Forge = Making Untemptered weapons

------------The Forge Menu----------------

The forge forms the shapes of weapons, tools and armor. Bellow is the types used.

--Weapons-------------------

--Axes
---War Axe head (One handed)
---Battleaxe head (Two handed)

--Blades
---Dagger blade
---Shortsword blade
---Longsword blade
---Saber

--Club
---Baton Club
---Blackjack
---Maces

--Crossbow
---Crossbow Frame

--Polearms
---Halberd Blade
---Spear Blade

--Misc
---Spikes

--Tools
---Wood Axe Blade
---Chisel
---Knife
---Pickaxe
---Saw
---Tongs

Forge = Untempered armor parts

Anvil = Making tempered Weapons
Anvil = Making Armor parts
Anvil = Making Tools

Hilt Clamp = Attaches hilt to weapon

I did some ripping of resident evil 4 villagers and cultists and reskinned them. It came out alright. They are a tad low poly but they do the trick.

That is some really impressive work! Every time I see a new screenshot I get more and more excited over Crussaria. You have a lot of talent in this, thanks for all your effort!

I'm predicting right after you spawned all those NPCs, the server crashed.

Using Dark Messiah M&M Content is a really good idea, game isn't that popular anymore but Ubisoft had a hard work with models. :D Me Gusta!

I should confirm that no more will be added to the main map, it's reached the source\hammer limits. For future development, we will have multiple servers, maybe a feature that remembers what server you were on and  the location in that server when you left it.

Theres an openaura plugin for that.
