Alright, don't laugh from what I'm about to mention on how pathetic it sounds, but:
My brother is a horrible at choosing computer parts.  He keeps getting ripped off at all the stores he goes to for kinda crappy video cards, so i'm getting him one as a gift this christmas that's much better than he currently has.

This is where I need you guys:
He has a ASUSTek motherboard, model: Amberine M , chipset: ATI xpress 200 (RS480), with PCI Express (must be 1.0 because no version number is after it)
I want to get him a GTX 260, but I am not sure if it is compatible with it or not.  It'd be nice to get him it and not look stupid in front of alot of people.

Actually I'm just wondering about the GTX 260, sorry but the 8800 is over my spending budget after I bought this $2598.32 giant box of nuts and bolts.

Lmao, ok so i get that the 8800 and 9800 are good. And cool.  But i just need to know about the GTX 260, I do not have the money for an 8800 or 9800, $140 is all i'm spending, not $200, and this is not for me it's for my brother to replace the Raden x1300 he got ripped off for from his friend.

I got a GeForce Nividia 9500, right now it's crapping out due to artifacts.

But i got it for 60 bucks at http://www.newegg.com. They carry many computer parts on cheap, alot cheaper compared to stores like Bestbuy.

8800 GTX hasn't failed me.

The 260 GTX is supposed to be phenomenal but I find it weird that 8800s are more expensive than the 260 when the 260 is a newer and better card in every aspect.

ATI makes good stuff too, check out the 4050.

The 8800 was the best gfx card evar, at one time. But now it is a great deal to snap up instead of paying full price for a GTX 250 or something, as they are about the same speed. However the advances in technology and all that stuff aren't included in the old cards. So GTX 250 or 8800 GTX I would recommend. With the 8800 GTX I believe would be slightly faster, but the drivers may be sloppier.
Either is a good choice.

GTX 250 has more Vram and more pipes iirc. It's better.

8800 GTS has served me well. I've had it for over a year.

Try the 9800 GTx I got it for like 120 on Tiger Direct.

Subzero

BTW Alex i got that 1 :) Its pretty shmexxy

You should have bought the ATI 5770. Faster than the 9800 GTX, uses less power,  and is about the same price. PC Gamer reviewed it last issue and loved it.

Get Nvida 8800 series, it's fairly cheap now, and can run any game max settings. Ive had no problems with it and ive had it for about 3 years now.

Fluffy

I tried, but I need a different motherboard to run this card. I got so disappointed when I bought the card to get that it doesn't fit.

I have the card, and what I have heard from it is great to have.

Lucidius

I had an 8400, no visible change from integrated graphics.

Upgraded to a Saphire Radeon HD4670 with 1gb of DDR3 ram for 83 dollars from the store.

Can run most everything on max that i've played.
