ALSO AS IMPORTANT AS RAGOLUTIONS 1.8 UPDATE THREAD

With the new addition of having a main city hub, players will also be expected to PLAY THEIR OWN ROLES, AND ONLY THEIR ROLE.

What I mean by this is:

Players are treating the server like it is a regular gather and build server.  This is not the point of Aceon.  You cannot be a soldier/fisher/lumberjack/farmer/blacksmith/mage all in one.  That is retarded, you are playing the game the way you can play it anywhere else.  THIS IS AN RP SERVER.

It doesn't matter if you are in Ermor, or you are going to be making a guild/club/group/clan/tribe, what ever.  People in your group will become specialists, AS WILL YOU.

Blacksmiths/toolcrafters/quartermasters, will have the training and knowledge to make tools.
Miners and people with the same trade are the only ones who know how to recognize good ore from bad ore, and the only ones brave/stupid enough to tread the dark tunnels.
Farmers will have the knowledge of how to farm, lumberjacks/serviles/gatherers will have the knowledge needed to forage from the land/harvest lumber.
And so on, and so on, and so on.

If you are playing a mage, or a character whose role is not readily apparent, this means that you will need to make yourself a value to your society.  Do you follow me so far? No?

Ok, so you are a druid, and you make a nature guild right?  Well you have people to specialize in the areas you need, but you are a druid, what can you do?  This means that your payment to the society you have created, is its administration and direction, plus what other effects you can throw into RP with your treehugger magic.  That does not mean you can say, I am a druid, I love the land, I can grow crops and trees.  Yeah, maybe you can grow trees around your enemy as a spell, but you can't harvest the lumber.  Do you follow me?

This applies to everyone, there are no exceptions.  If you are a soldier, or a hunter, you SHOULD NOT BE MINING.  If you are the scion of a noble-merchant family, YOU SHOULD NOT BE FARMING.

Yes, I realize that this is quite different from how you have all usually played, but from mine and Ragolution's observations, you guys will do anything you can to avoid each other, and continue to just play regular old minecraft.  CUT DAT SHIT OUT.

Yes, the medium in which we RP is different, and it in itself is fun.  Yes, there is the temptation to play minecraft, but don't!  You are not playing Minecraft, you are roleplaying on a server that happens to have the medium of minecraft.

TL:DR If you want to chop down tress, then build a fort, then make arrows, then go hunt, then go farm, GO to a build server.  This is an RP server.

If you have any questions, or need clarification on anything, just post your question here, or PM me or Ragolution, or ask us in game/steam.  We realize there will be questions, and that this is very different, but we are trying something new, and we are going to see it through.

Edit: Before you question this new method and its ability to work, the server has already been running on this system for almost a week now, maybe longer.  This is just the official post to make sure it is known to everyone.  I repeat, this system is already in place, and working.

What if, for example, a soldier chose to retire from the army. Could they then apprentice to one of the other jobs and then be able to perform those tasks? Could the reverse also be done?

Lt.Azrael

Thats what I did, so, yeah. Well, I didn't apprentice, I just said, Hey quin, I'm not gonna be a soldier any more, I'm a miner now. And he said OK. Well, That's the condensed version.

I totally agree with this, I came here to RP and love to go on RP adventures. But I want to be RPing all the time.

P.S. It's going to be AWESOME when the server is updated to 1.8

Off topic question, but what the hell is a ranma anyway?

Its a fictional character specifically, but also an anime.  Just put "Ranma" into google, Bobby, and you can easily figure it out.

Yes, of course you can change your characters profession/role in society, however it will depend entirely on the person and what they want to switch to.

Say a soldier wants to retire like you said.  He can be given a plot of land to farm, but ICly he will need to learn how to farm the land.  It really depends on the case, you can't just have a farmer then switch to being a mage, he will need to try to become an acolyte/apprentice or what ever, and learn from a professional spell-caster.

This then raises the concern about someone who keeps, switching, roles and jobs, possibly in the hope of becoming a jack of all trades.  Hopefully no one will actually try this, but the only way I can think of actually stopping someone like this is an OOC slap on the wrist.  Hopefully other players will also see this person and what they are doing, and not open up apprenticeships to them.

What if a miner payed a blacksmith to teach him to make picks, would this be allowed also?

No, why would the blacksmith teach someone how to make tools for a single payment, when they could constantly have that person coming back to buy the tools?

This is going to be absolutely unenforceable unless you start revoking build/mining permissions of everyone who isn't specifically a building/mining class.

People might forget one trade, everyone has limited memory space. Which means no jack of all trades.

Thank you, I completely agree.

I don't think it is impossible, as before 1.8 hit, we were already running on this system.  All that is required is a dedicated main player base.  These players are all known to me, and all known to each other, both IC and OOC.  If they notice anyone breaking the rules of the system, they will speak to that person, because it will influence their roleplay experience in the end.  The other admins and I don't need to be omnipresent, because other trusted players who actually do want a good roleplay experience will speak with the rule breaker/inform one of the admins.

With players actually following these rules, the ones who break them will eventually have to come into contact with other players.  If we find someone who has gone off on their own and built a doom fort, industrial mining complex, and a grow-op, we will just punish them accordingly and remove their work.  The effect of someone doing something like that, is only really a strike to the economy, and with Ermor, an actual government, and guilds for different professions, we can help support players who may not be making enough money through IC means to survive.

Basically, if someone is a farmer, but then goes and digs a shit ton of ore and sells it to a blacksmith, (hopefully) the blacksmith will report them, and if that doesn't occur, and actual miners can't sell their ore, their guild or the government can support them until the economy stabilizes.

This system requires a strong, dedicated player base, and I feel that we have that.  If things turn out to be the contrary, then we will deal with it when the problem arises.  So far though, for about a week before the 1.8 update we ran on this system, and did a great job.

I just have thing to add. People who are soldiers need to be payed then, and I mean payed regularly. I don't want to wait almost a month to get a paycheck because Chief isn't on. So if you could set up something with the bank so soldiers can go in and get payed weekly (IRL), then that would be greatly appreciated.

Then we don't need to wait for Chief to come on for you to get paid, and we don't need to set up a different system.  If he isn't doing his job then he will be replaced.  Any suggestions as to who should take his place?  Feer says he is taking a break, and Allt isn't too regular a player either.

TL;DR make it a build server if thats what everyone is doing anyway instead of RPing???

No, its not what everyone is doing, it is what some people are doing that is ruining it for the rest.

Well, it's hard to think of some active players. There is me, Leor, and Flynn, but he isn't that much lately as well.

Under consideration but not what you think.

Yo Mel, I'm on mostly every day but usually in the evening, from around 6- 12 PM US Eastern Time. But I'm not on anymore for now due to me updating to 1.8.1 recently.

Quite honestly, I just have school. I meant by taking a break, as in might be off on the days I have to practice my drummy drums, or have homework. Otherwise I'm a free cat. Whereas I am not saying Chief is unqualified, I want him to stay where he is, I just wanted to straighten and correct what I meant.

EDIT: But if Chief were every, unfortunately, and sadly removed, I'd qualify myself. I guess.
