Kayal: The Beginning

A relatively non-religious race, gods were seldom worshipped openly in the Kayal culture. Turning to science, the Kayal people have a long history in chemistry. This love for chemistry began when the first humans arrived in the "End". A lifeless place, the humans were able to found odd elements deep in the ground. The major elements they found were of five similar colors, each a different shade of grey. "Crassium", the lightest gray, is commonly found in it's lethal form, as a very dense liquid. The second element was the darkest gray, "Faerusim". Faerusim is naturally found in its solid form. Upon finding both of these elements, the humans quickly harvested what they could find. They did not bother digging any deeper, as the Faerusim proved hard to mine. Barreling the Crassium, and laying the Faerusim in bricks, the humans planned on returning to their homeland of Aceon, to sell the new elements.  Fate, however, did not smile upon them. Terrible quakes shook the land, the portal disappearing as soon as they started. It lays unknown on what actually did cause the portal to disppear, but current Kayal historians believe it was due to the fact that the portal was  unstable. The quake broke the barrel containing the Crassium, spewing its contents on the ground. It touched the Faerusim, turning into a gray pink liquid. The liquid did not dissolve into the ground, remaining on the top of the soil. After the horrible quakes, the remaining troop of humans looked to the liquid with desperation. With their camp being destroyed, and their supplies gone, it seemed as if they had no other choice. The bravest of the group, a man celebrated in current Kayal times, tried the liquid. This man was Alan Rod, the name that the holiday, "Alanis", is named after. Upon drinking the liquid, Alan's expression relaxed. He quickly drank the rest, his thirst being quenched. The human group quickly got to work mining and gathering the two elements. Mixing the elements, they stored the pink liquid. This was the third element, "Yusirium". Yusirium was their liquid. It has a sweet taste, similar to that of milk.

The humans were curious now, intrigued by the change of the two elements to make the new substance. However, they made the mistake of mixing Yusirium with Faerusim first, instead of Crassium. Upon touching, it made a gray gas that choroded everything it touched. This element was rightly named, "Mortium". Hesitant to mix Yusirium with Crassium, they reluctantly mixed the two liquids. To their amazement, the two elixirs formed a medium gray, the color of an overcast sky. It was a soft solid, chewable, but not malleuable. This last element was named "Nitim". Nitim was their food supply. It was salty, but when eaten with Yusirium, it became sweet. Nitim and Yusirim were unable to mix, both being minor elements.

This was the basis of Kayal life. From this, the Kayal people flourished. Mixing and creating some minor elements, they were able to make shelters. Minor elements were always preferred to major elements, as they could not create anymore minor elements unless mixed with another major. The minor element that was most malleuable was made of Mortium and Crassium. "Rinlium" was created. It is malleuable when hot, and rigid when cold. It was the perfect building material. At first, the Kayal people made simply structures, such as huts. (The first village was named Ais. This would eventually become the main city of the modern Kayal.)  However, as the division of labor increased, the buildings began to be more intricate. All one color, yet all of them looked different. This is what brings them to the modern Kayal. The norm, or the building style of Rinlium, was similar to byzantine architecture. Domes and arches were often used in buildings of importance, such as the Kiraktud, located in the city of Ais. The Kiraktud was the place of  scientific study. It was marked by it's five domes, each with a small spike protruding its center. The five domes signify the five major elements.

The Kiraktud has had periods of use and disuse, depending on the leader in charge. The goverment is a monarchy, however different Houses and Families can attempt to overtake the current Royal Family. If they succeed, they become the new Royal Family. If they fail, the attackers, aswell as those who have a familial relationship with the House or Family that attacked, were publicly murdered. The monarchy does not have absolute authority though, as they had a group of five publicly elected officials to keep them in check. They were called the Kuris. The Kuris had the ability to impeach the current Royal Family at any time. If they do impeach the Royal Family, they had three months to choose a new Royal Family, before one is allowed to step up.  During those three months, the Kuris would act as the Royal Family.

Socially, the Kayal was not a very accepting place. They had strict gender roles, and breaking them was socially unacceptable. It was frowned upon for a woman to be anything less than beautiful. Beauty to the Kayal is a perfectly white complexion. Black eyeshadows were used to add depth and value to the face. Long, straight hair that has no variation in the color is often what women were after. Those not so lucky often wore large, extravagant head pieces in hopes to cover up their hair. Another important part of Kayal female culture was the ear. Pointed ears were considered beautiful, as were many pierecings. The more colorful the pierecings, the more rich the Kayal was thought to be. Rare gems were sometimes found in quarrys excavating Faerusim. These gems changed colors depending on the element that was nearest to them. Green if Faerusim was nearest, pink if Mortium was nearest,  blue if Crassium was nearest, red if Nitim was nearest, and white if Yusirium was nearest. If in the plane of Aceon, the 'gems' would look and act like coal.
The men must be shining knights in armor, with chiseled features. The men had more wiggle room than women. Powders and eyeshadows were used to give the eyes a sunken  look. This is look is attributed with Royalty, as many of the Royal Families had sunken eyes. Men must always look good, forcing them to wear proper attire. This is often the cause of economic difficulties in Kayal homes.
The language of the Kayal is a Goidelic. Their name for it is Kayralian. The Kayralian language is very soft, which causes all their other speak to be soft aswell. The pitch of the men and women would be deep and light for both respectively. Those men with higher pitched voices, or women with lower pitched voices, would usually go through rigorous voice therapy to try and change this.  Often times it was successful, while other times it was not. Voice matters in Kayal society, as Kayals only pair once, seldom twice. Kayals look for pleasing attributes, valuing personality below that.
The most important part of Kayal life were the celebrations. Celebrations often happened once a week in families, and once a month among peers. These celebrations were always feasts. They could be simple feasts consisting of a normal, or, they could be very intricate, with specially prepared food, and dancing. The celebrations brought people together, showing kinship. Celebrations were never shared with those the Kayal disliked, only with people the Kayal wanted to know, or people the Kayal already loved.

Recently, there has been some talk of travel to Aceon, with the new portal technology created by the Kayal. Many are trepidatious about venturing to the new land. However, with the economic instability, and the corruption of the current Kuris, many see no other option then to leave. The first person to have gone through the portal was Lady Eleanore Noctilucent over one hundred fifty years ago. Despite the fact there had been no corruption, and economic issues, historians speculate that Lady Eleanore felt threatened, and disappeared through the portal. At first, many were shocked by this. But, as the shock disappeared, curiosity took its place. Some began to leave, bringing their whole families. Now, many are tempted to leave, and many do.
A girls' tears are only to show to the person you love when you're truly happy, like when your father ridicules me or hits me with just enough force, I get so excited I cry tears of joy.

Accepted, just don't add in the Irish accent bit while I am not looking.  Ill add this to the race lore index.
