Alright, due to alot of people out there wanting to play a variety of games, i consider this a worth while thread.

What is Game Ranger?

GameRanger is a free download for Mac and PC that lets you play over 600 games and demos online with friends and opponents worldwide. GameRanger offers features like profiles, friends lists, instant messaging, in-game voice communication, and competitive ladders/rankings/ratings. It's Hamachi on steroids.

Settlers IV (4) - How to Download and Play

Get a program like Daemon Tools and mount disc's and install

Patch it here http://download.chip.eu (http://download.chip.eu/de/download_getfile_de_1859203.html?t=51059d4b&f=/downloads/5722/s4_update_full_1516.zip&dl_type=dl_hs&sign=3614b2f9be10fbb3f96415cda3f9f5aa)

Run GameRanger and join whatever settlers games there are or host one.

Troubleshooting - Black Boxes:

Search google, there's various fixes, it all depends on your graphics card.

Troubleshooting - Resolution:

Make sure you have ran the game one first or it will overwrite it.

If you cannot set your resolution in game, there's a easy fix. Go into your settlers folder, then config.

In Config right click on gamesettings.cfg - untick Read-Only.
Open in notepad.

Find:

Screenmode = 1
WindowHeight = 800
WindowWidth = 600

Change to:

Screenmode = 1
WindowHeight = 1024
WindowWidth = 1280

Save it and change the file back to read me. Go into game and see the game in higher resolution and a new feature on the left (Small focus point minimap)

what's the game about?

Settlers 4 is awful, do not play it. Settlers series got bad after 3.

If you play on hosting it on hgn then yes, posting links to a pirating website depends on the content. Settlers 4 is not sold anymore and no one is going to chase you for downloading it.

so whats it about nobody cares if its illegal or not

They still sell Settlers 4 here.
