Guilds Vs Factions

Now, I love MMOs and what not, but there is one fact about them that has always bugged me, and that is simple. Guilds have been confused with organizations of people. While this is part of what guilds are, it is only part. So, I've been thinking.  And we all know what thinking does...

To shed some light, Guilds are organizations of people with a common career working for the good of their members. In later dark ages, when there was more widespread careers and a true middle class, Guilds became ways for individuals with certain skills to function in the world around them.

For instance, there were guilds for the weavers, and the architects, and the merchants, and whatever other business was defined as a separate skill.

A Faction is more true to our current system of guilds amongst MMO's and what-not, a group of people of ranging skills and talents coming together to form an organization seeking a common goal.

So, I would like to implement some way for individuals of similar skill talents, the civilians mostly (Shop keepers and whatnots) (Seeing as adventurers usually seem to go it solo, though we could have an Adventurer's Guild I suppose) to form Guilds separate of factions, more a kind of way for a bunch of alchemists to organize themselves so that, you-know, one isn't Wal-mart, and the other that corner grocery store that doesn't have a name.

This would allow people to still be part of their faction, or outside of any faction, but organize projects with others of their Guild, such as festivals hosted by guilds, or architecture projects that are bigger then one person (It's nice to include others).

TL:DR

I would like to make Guilds as separate entities of factions so that it can provide a more realistic role-playing experience, and we can stay true to what Guilds are: Business organizations.

Thank you for your time.

Im new but i have to agree. This is a great idea!

I definitely love this idea.  Also would allow people who prefer to remain neutral from factions still have the option of being part of an actual organization.
:D OMG HI.

I'm making a Ninja Guild, if anyone is interested. Just go down to the Temple of Erebus in the Jungle, there is an initiation however. Recruitment will start when I put up a sign on Mideel Creek's Mission Board.

Not a very secretive ninja guild. .-.
