Steven's Guide to Bartering!

Introduction: Seeing as though many people seem to oblige with other people's prices. Let me tell you this, All of the items ingame are only worth what the person thinks it is! there are no -set- base prices. Before you go charging in, purchasing a pistol for 1,000 caps, think for a moment. Do I really need this? Should I show the person how much I really need it? (Begging to lower the price etc). The thing you must think about first is "Will this person stay with his price? Or am I able to lower it possibly."

-

Chapter One: The Do's and Dont's
Do's:
Do try and lower the price if you think its an abnormal amount to pay for such a item, if in doubt, double-check with another trader!
Do try and offer things to the person, to lower the price! Ex. "Oh, I'll give you a box of 9mm ammunition if you lower that suit price by 125 caps"
Do try to persuade the person to lower the price. You never know if they really have any use for it, if they don't, they'll probably have a lower price!
Don't act as if you need it desperately they are most likely going to try and charge you MORE for said item that you want.
Don't act too hostile, if you try to pull a pistol out on them, they are able to retalliate!
Don't steal other people's customers infront of them, if you do it to spite someone you may have your head put on the bounty board.

Do try and be friendly, if you act nicer they're more inclined to let whatever you want to go for less caps (Depending on the person) or for more junk.

-

Chapter Two: Junk Trading
So, your probably wondering "Oh, what the hell am I going to do with this junk I found in the wasteland? Well, the best thing to do with it is use it to TRADE! Here is my experience with Junk Trade:

Chef: Hey, would you like to purchase a Nuka-Cola for 30 caps?
Me: Sure, but you look like you need some more Drinking glasses, how about I give you 20 caps and two empty Nuka-Cola bottles, you can always refill em' ya'know.
Chef: Uh... well I do need some more drinking glasses, sure I guess.
Me: Great! *Sets the bottles on the table, knowing he made a good deal*

Junk is usually just stored for later uses, I have my own method of doing business so if you somehow find someone else interested in Junk, Barter! Some people may offer 1 cap for junk, try to raise it to two caps! If not, you can always fall back to that single cap, but if you butter someone up first, you may be able to get it for two caps per junk.

-

Chapter Three: Setting up the Bargain
As I mentioned in the last chapter, "If you butter someone up first, you may be able to get two caps per junk." works for almost every item. But how do I butter, or set someone up? Well, it depends on the person! If you know someone, who's been a customer of yours for a while, you may be inclined to listen in on his offers more. This is my guide to getting a good bargain in multiple steps.

1) Test them, see how much they're offering and if you are able to fund it properly.
2) Offer them items, in exchange they may lower the price.
3) If your a regular customer, ask them if your able to set up a 'Tab' or IOU sort of note.
4) Conduct business, using as many of these steps you can, getting the lowest price you think your able to, in exchange for other items that you don't need but can be useful to the person your selling to.

Chapter 4 comes soon.

It's a shame if I explained how I barter, I would no longer be able to barter.

I don't barter like this exactly, I have three different methods.

So....you don't use this method because it doesn't work? Thanks for the useless guide Steven.

Wish we had a facepalm smiley.

I do use this method as well, the point is I'm giving people an idea on what they SHOULD try to do when bartering.

My bartering techinque consists of a sentance and a little eavesdropping on other traders. Works like a charm.
Pink doesn't make me gay, it makes you homophobic.

I just point my AK at the trader, demanding everything he owns.
Works?
Always.
Blake.H: And im also working on whipping him into shape
Blake.H: He's nice
Blake.H: He doesn't moan
Blake.H: The sheer obedience is enough to fuel my erection anyway

I don't always pay for stuff that I buy.

But when I don't.

I use an AK-47 with flashlight attachment.
