Connecting issues...

New to the forum, and the server, but I'm already having problems. 

I downloaded the packs and maps, and put them into the correct directories, but I am unable to connect.
When I attempt to connect it pauses at 'Retrieving server information' for about 10 minutes.  At the moment, it changed to 'Sending client info...' and has seemed to pause there.    Actually, as I was typing this the music stopped, and it returned to the menu...  I will attempt to connect again, but does anyone have any suggestions?

Also, even if this does sort itself out, should I expect it to take 20 minutes to connect every time?

You have too many addons. The more content you have on your client the longer it will load.

I'll go about deleting things, but I haven't installed many addons...

I sit at the same screen for a few minutes sometimes myself, I would say try what Jake said.

I wiped out my entire Gmod and reinstalled. Works beautifully now.
