With the naval retreat of Mardra after the Battle of Canderous Fields, the Judonian forces drove them to Udor River, and stood off on either side of the river. With an alliance forged with Rubyroot, Judonia had its flanks secure. Aridellian forces were allowed onto the field by Mardrian forces, who had agreed that if they did not fire on each other, they would remain at peace for the time being. The standoff at Udor River lasted for 3 days, until the battle being initiated by the Judonian side at the command of Grand Marshal General Cisco Burke.

After cannon bombardment from both sides, as well as the Mardrian ketch being destroyed, the last ditch resort of the Mardrian forces on Udor River was to destroy their walls with explosives, effectively killing many forces that had advanced into the fort, but also causing them to lose Udor River.
