Understanding the Universe: Local Information

Before you take the plunge into Desertia, it's important to know a little about your surroundings.
If your character is brand new to the planet, you should stop reading right now! It'll be more fun for the rest of us.

So, you wound up in Desertia! Normally this is where I'd say, "NICE", and give you a thumbs up or a pat on the back, but this isn't a good bro-ment.
You just stepped on the sands of one of the most inhospitable planets in the galaxy. The sun is scorching, the sand is scathing, and there's little to no water anywhere. If you've ever been in a desert, you know what it's like; if not, you're experiencing nothing short of 120 degrees Fahrenheit of sheer, sandy hell.

The wasteland is nothing short of dunes for miles, with some roads here and there, sometimes leading to towns or facilities, other times leading to nowhere at all. There are the occasional dried out skeleton of people less fortunate than you. The wildlife is rabid, and you wonder how they survive. You wonder how anything survives out here...

The towns and facilities are the safest places to be. There's plenty of bases, complexes, and facilities around, each different. For now, let's focus on the town.

The town, Gerian, the safe haven for everyone here. It's a moderately large town located near the equator of the planet with a fluctuating population. The town has some very basic utilities, such as running water and electricity, but lacks any real comfort that would come from towns in the rest of the universe. The buildings are either worn, refurbished, or relatively new, but all of them have their fair share of scrapes and bullet holes. Regardless of the looks and the feel, it's safer than out there.

- The Bar: Considered by some to be the most important building in the whole town, the bar is a crucial community meeting area (by which I mean get shitfaced and start a fight). People of all sorts come by the bar to socialize with a beverage in hand, and is a great place to start if you wish to get acquainted, find partners, or get some work.

- CE Outpost: More of a Sheriff's office than an FOB, the CE Office is a reinforced concrete building with a desk and a cell. CE comes there to detain people, store supplies, and relay dispatch.

- Trading Posts: Most of the more well-off, non-nomadic traders decided to build their own shack from which they do business. Look for stores and such for equipment, weapons, and maybe even a job. Do note that everyone's policies are different.

- Houses: Housing is a premier luxury, especially nicer housing. While most people live in common homes or in camps elsewhere, people who live in homes are granted safety, comfort, and some privacy.

- The Fountain (Available on rp_Wuste only): It's a nice decoration, just don't drink the water.

As safe and secure as the town may be, crime is still a problem. The town isn't infallible nor impenetrable, and the occasional outbreak of crime occurs quite often. Be sure to be attentive as you wander through the streets.

As the sun sets, and the skies are lit by the moons and stars, you'd best find a warm place to be, so that you may survive another day.
